Deano6 Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 ...a huge hurricane is going to slam into New York. Hurricane Irene is predicted to make landfall as a Category 2 on Sunday morning. Sound familiar? Subway system going to be shut down other than emergency plans if needed for evacuation purposes. I reckon that's more precautionary than necessary at this stage, but we'll see. Gonna get a great view from my West Village apartment. Just hope it doesn't ruin the Mets game tomorrow!
Deano6 Posted 26 August, 2011 Author Posted 26 August, 2011 Yes In fact the language of that article is strangely prophetic!
buctootim Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I predict Deano will be turned into a pillar of salt.
Saint-scooby Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 My kids are just south of New York at the moment, high winds and heavy rain as from Sunday. I doubt they will be flying back on Monday, a few extra days holiday.
dune Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Hope it floods New York. It's always amusing seeing Yanks in a panic. Great TV.
bristolsaint29 Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I'm in Bristol and it's seems familiar!! Absolute downpour and thunder and lightning. I have a river running across the front of my house!
dubai_phil Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 My youngest is in Washington Dc for a couple of weeks working on a project. He's had a hell of a first week. Earthquake & now a Hurricane passing by
OttawaSaint Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Ottawa is just outside the light blue area on that map, only time will tell if we will be affected...
Saint-scooby Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 You will get Maple syrup with land o lakes butter.....
Deano6 Posted 27 August, 2011 Author Posted 27 August, 2011 Ok, so taking it a bit more seriously now. Went to grocery store to stock up on chips and dips and soda and evacuated to gf's brother's place. Glued to CNN - loving it, due to arrive about 3.30am EST. Very slow moving.
Prince Jazzbo Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 Will there be a War On Weather if it hits New York?
scotty Posted 28 August, 2011 Posted 28 August, 2011 It seemes surreal watching the BBC video of an empty Times Square. We were there until Friday night, right by the Rockefeller centre, and flew out of JFK on the !!pm flight. Delta were offering $800 to anyone prepared to forego their booking and wait, plus they would transfer you to a 5* hotel and pay all expenses, and upgrade you from economy to first-class on the next available JFK/Heathrow flight. I passed. I'm a bit concerned for a couple of friends, they have both been ordered to evacuate but have both stayed put.
dubai_phil Posted 28 August, 2011 Posted 28 August, 2011 Gotta lol at CNN having more reporters out in the rain than poopey get at Nott Arf. Guys - It is Wind & Rain. FFS if you want to see it THAT badly, just hop over to the UK for an hour. Oh, and how about a report from say Washington? It hit them some time ago & Obama declared a state of Emergency. Obviously not as interesting as holding a Skype enabled Iphone towards the sea in The Hamptons and saying, well nothing is happening, but it might.
S-Clarke Posted 28 August, 2011 Posted 28 August, 2011 Looks like the media over-hyped it all again. It's not even a hurricane anymore. New York isn't even windy!!

Its not due there yet, they are just getting the outskirts of it. The main bit starts hitting new york around midday their time, about 4 hours from now.

It's got their ahead of schedule as the storm is travelling much faster than before, what they have at the mo (a bit of rain in all honesty) is as bad as it will get for New York. The winds seem to be weakening and staying out to the coast. The big threat now is the storm surge.
Deano6 Posted 29 August, 2011 Author Posted 29 August, 2011 Storm in a teacup in the end, just a lot of hot air. Minor flooding of some downtown areas right by the water, but only real damage visible is a few branches on the ground. Haven't seen a single broken window. Oh well, back to work as usual today then. I did see this photo though from Puerto Rico, where a street got flooded and a shark was snapped swimming down the channel.
