Marsdinho Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Seeing as though our preferred targets may be going elsewhere, is it time to get Adam Le Fondre? Seems as though we are prepared to take a risk on someone, so why not get someone that's young, English and has an eye for goal. Also, sounds as though the deal wouldn't be that expensive, so if it didn't work out, we have hardly broken the bank. TBH, I'm surprised no one has come in for him yet.
Saint Charlie Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Overrated, nowhere near as good as Guly, Lambert, Barnard, Connolly - not what we need.
Colinjb Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 It was all over the back page of the local papers here that le Fondre had submitted a transfer request. Coventry want him.
shirleysfc Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Wasn't he meant to be available for £350,000? You would assume he's been scouted by a few teams at this level and if Coventry are the only ones making a move I would suggest he'd struggle to make the step up two divisions. If Coventry do sign him would that free up Lukas Jutkiewicz? I've been impressed by what I've seen of him in highlights this year.
capitalsaint Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Is it time for our monthly Le Fondre mention already? Where has the summer gone?
Saint Garrett Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 No thanks. If he was that good, why has he not left yet ?
Prince Jazzbo Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I'm afraid that Adam hasn't got his Public Service Vehilcle Licence, so I cant see anyother way of him making it on to our bus.
The9 Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I honestly don't know why a club trying to build for the Premier League would sign a player who has been playing all of his football in League Two for the past 6 years, and before that scored precisely 5 goals in his one and only season at the heady heights of League One.
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I heard that Reading are seriously thinking about him. They are welcome to him.
beavis17 Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Would smack of desperation if we ended up signing him...
Saint Fan CaM Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Not good enough - unproven at the very least - we have better at the club - in short, no.
SNSUN Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 If we brought in two strikers, say Baldock and Le Fondre, then fine. But we need one key addition up front. As has been said on this thread, Jutkiewicz would be my choice, followed by Maynard.
Lets B Avenue Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 No thanks. If he was that good, why has he not left yet ? Because he's so slow he makes our strikers look like Usain Bolt.
krissyboy31 Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Looks like he's got on the wrong bus and ended up in Reading.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 lol - too many people seem obsessed with signing this Le Fondre chap. Why? He scores goals in league two, but so do a lot of people. Definitely no better than what we already have.
Badger Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 NA was keen on him in his last summer at Svaginathorpe so clearly knows about Le Fondre's abilities. As he has not made a move for him it is is clear NA also knows Le Fondre's limitations, and does not deem him up to the standard we now require.
JibMcdo Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 signed by reading 350k ....next Needs to be another eight pages before that can happen!
saintsmike25 Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 He's just a good finisher, no pace, just imagine a League two Lee Trundle that is why no-one has picked him up.
The9 Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 Will be interesting to see if Reading's new signing gets any matches for them, if anyone was going to take the gamble it would be the side that signed a couple of strikers from Irish League clubs.
Stattmeister Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 Lukas J scored again today... I'd be dead happy with taking advantage of the situation at Cov assume had said. Has ability, I suspect he'd fit NA's "team" concept, and certainly NC's financial criteria... Not bring ripped off!
Kingsland Red Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 Reading seem to rate him: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rotherham_utd/9574224.stm
SNSUN Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 Is Lukas J actually any good? Why did we release him? I've only seen him a couple of times for Cov and he looked pretty standard. We released him when he was 13. I think it's fair to say it was too early to tell how good he'd become. Get him on the bus ffs.
Legod Third Coming Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 It's quite hard for me to see why we need attackers... Defenders after today I would accept. But let's be honest, do we look like a team short on goals, from anywhere??!!!

But let's be honest, do we look like a team short on goals, from anywhere??!!! Connolly's 34. It's a lot to ask of him to play every game in a season, and we don't know what's going to happen with Barnard. We need a striker as well as a CB.
bowers-sfc Posted 27 August, 2011 Posted 27 August, 2011 I honestly think he will do well in this league. No pace, but he knows how to score, yes he has not played higher then league 2, but alot of players make the step up and do well. get to see him a few times aswell, follow reading ( take my nan when shes well enough ) so be good to see if we have missed out.
Badger Posted 28 August, 2011 Posted 28 August, 2011 Compared to Leicester's likely outlay on Maynard, this could be a very shrewd move by Reading at £350,000.
Marsdinho Posted 28 August, 2011 Author Posted 28 August, 2011 I guess we'll soon see if he can or cannot cut it in this league.
trousers Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 I guess we'll soon see if he can or cannot cut it in this league. Indeed....
Badger Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 Compared to Leicester's likely outlay on Maynard, this could be a very shrewd move by Reading at £350,000. As above. Reading have certainly had a better return on him than we have had - so far - on Sharp.
Crab Lungs Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 Lol. Totally written off because he'd played most of his career in L2. Whoops
S-Clarke Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 Lots of good players in the lower leagues, write them off at your peril. Le Fondre is a goal scorer, and he will score at any level.
Thedelldays Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 Lol. Totally written off because he'd played most of his career in L2. Whoops you only have to look at lambert to see players in the lower leagues are very good.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 Love it when the "I told you so" threads come out after a loss. He's scored goals for them, sure (largely from the bench, isn't a regular starter), but he was absolutely gifted two goals last night. Sharp probably would have scored both.
Lighthouse Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 TBF, his scoring record this season has been no better than David Connolly... ... 2 goals each at St Marys.
doddisalegend Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 (edited) We have four players in our team who have scored as many as or more goals than him this season ........as a result I won't lose to much sleep over it to be honest Edited 14 April, 2012 by doddisalegend
Turkish Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 We have four players in our team who have scored as many as or more goals than him this season ........as a result I wan't lose to much sleep over it to be honest Have any of them come of the bench and won the game for us like he has done for them against Millwall, Leeds and Saints?

This post is the most surprising of all. As someone who was played semi professional football as a striker i'd have thought you'd be able to spot a quality finisher.
doddisalegend Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 Have any of them come of the bench and won the game for us like he has done for them against Millwall, Leeds and Saints? Why does that matter? He has scored 11 (the same number as the "usless" Guly) this season, a decent enough player, but just becuase he scored the winner against us hardly means we dropped the ball with regards to not signing him.

And the winners against Leeds and Millwall, to name but two off the top of my head. It matters because Le Fondre has consistantly come on as an effective option off the bench and won them points. How many of our players have done that? De Ridder with his equaliser against Reading maybe. Lee might have been that man but he's injured. Most of our substitutes happen when we are in control of the game. Did you honestly look at our bench last night and think we've got someone who can come on with 20 minutes to go and win us the game? PS, i dont think Guly is useless BTW.

No agree about the bench last night not sure why we had three defenders out of five players.....Clearly we are missing Jonno quick. Still don't think that means we were wrong not to buy ALF.

Still don't think that means we were wrong not to buy ALF. We are definitely missing an attacking player who can come on and influence the game. De Ridder did okay last night but too often does very little. We dont have a player like Le Fondre who can give us that little spark when our backs are against the wall or need a goal.

Shame Lee got injuried would have been that player I reckon, failing that a fit Lee Barnard might have been that player this season. Still three games to go we've got to work with what we've got we will limp over the finish line before WHU I reckon ALF or no ALF.
Avenue Saint Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 If lee didn't get injured I think we would have won the league. Big loss.
Appy Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 Are we going to do this for every player who scores against us?
Window Cleaner Posted 14 April, 2012 Posted 14 April, 2012 Are we going to do this for every player who scores against us? might be handy if we could do it before they score against us It's what Everton used to do when they had millions of £ of pools money behind them and other teams had to make do with the proceeds of a whip rounds at the Working Men's Club.Used to buy up players just to keep them off the market, only played with 11 or 12 in those days, the rest just hung about.
