Giordano Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 (edited) Is he injured or is he really fourth choice now? Did he have such a rubbish preseason that he got an extension PLUS is dropped forevermore?Whatever happened to Radhi Jaidi? And no I realise he didn't get an ice pick that made his ears burn with deference to The Stranglers. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.393960,-0.412921 Edited 25 August, 2011 by Giordano obvious careless sp! BARCELONASAINT Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 I believe he is injured. I did see him in a couple of pre-season games and i could not believe how poor he was in those games. I honestly believe we may have seen the last of him as a first choice player.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 I believe he is injured. I did see him in a couple of pre-season games and i could not believe how poor he was in those games. I honestly believe we may have seen the last of him as a first choice player. He was very much the same this time last season, but then managed to recover thankfully. It seems this player is unable to maintain his fitness levels during the summer break for some reason. Unlike some on here I'm not at all persuaded that Seaborne has miraculously developed into a top quality defender overnight, and Martin is too raw at this stage for my tastes. So the way things are going I've a feeling we are going to need Jaidi's services before very long.

ericofarabia Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 Maybe he is fasting during Ramadan and as such would not be able to reach the fitness levels required. Ramadan ends in about 5 days, too late for Leicester and then there ís a blank weekend so the next match won't be until Sept 10th, (unless there is the LC 2nd?) by which time any injury will have hopefully healed and/or fitness levels built up again on returning to a normal diet. Either way pretty inconclusive really!!
Trader Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 He's a brilliant header of the ball and wins most in the air - but as he's got older he's got too slow for this league and will get found out at this level. Would make a good defense coach though I would imagine.

andybeal Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 I think the poster who mentioned Ramadan has hit the nail on the head here - Ramadan last year ended on 9th September - by the end of September 2010 he was back to fitness.
Rasiak-9- Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 He can head the ball like a beast but do nothing else. He gives away soft fouls, can't pass a ball, gets it one-twoed past him like he's not there and just generally gets ****ed on by any two strikers who actually have a bit of movement about them. The Kraken Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 I assume you didn't make it to many Saints games last season? Indeed; a truly ridiculous statement to make about Jaidi. I'd still like him to prove he can do at this level, he's such a great pleayer to have on the pitch for your side. He does struggle with pace of course, but I'd love to see him able to step back up again. Sadly, the jury is still out in that department.
locksheathsaint101 Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 He's a good player scored a few goals last season as well. Certainly deserves a few games in this league to see how he fairs no need to write him off just yet!
Colinjb Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 Towards the end of last year he started to lose his consistency. He started to make silly mistakes and made poorer judgements in terms of his positioning. The goal conceeded at Walsall was a case in point. He can still do a job for us, but I fear he would be exposed/shown up v mobile or intelligent opposition now. I just believe he is nearing retirement. Rebel Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 At 36/37 he was probably too old to play on. Problem is players lose match fitness over the summer and at that age it takes them a lot longer to regain it. And they get injured more easily. It took him two years to get fully match fit - and we saw the best if him at the end of last season. However I don't think we will see it again. I think we should have let him retire on a high at the end of last season.

paulwantsapint Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 Radhi Jaidi is a rock who just don't do friendly on the pitch His religious beliefs may have a bearing on early season but there is nobody better at blocking an immobile target man in this league
Crab Lungs Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 I'm not sure why people think a wobbling, raw and amateurish Aaron Martin or Dan Seaborne are now the answer. In fact, I'm still wondering how Seaborne got so many rave reviews versus Millwall. Yes, he got to almody everything but what did he do with the ball? He just deflected things off with his thigh/backside, headed the ball upwards/backwards or back to the opposition... that's not an improvement in his game, it's just an improvement in his commitment. And when he did have time on the ball he was just twitching to hoof it... We need a player of the same quality of Fonte. We need a ready-made bruiser, a younger-ish Jaidi type. Rotating Seaborne, Martin and Jaidi won't get us promoted - but playing Jaidi will at least give us a sniff...

Plus, even if he doesn't play many games this season, I would much rather have him at the back when we come up against a team who stick a big targetman up front and whack it forward. He will come in handy when required for certain games, plus his experience and sheer presence around team training and the younger players is invaluable. Many teams will try to combat our pass and play style by lumping the ball forward to a targetman. Jaidi stops that threat dead.

spyinthesky Posted 25 August, 2011 Share Posted 25 August, 2011 Bearing in mind that Martin and Seabourne are relatively decent in the air but not exactly quick and/or comfortable on the ball then perhaps NA is looking for a nippier, left footed player who can better deal with the small speedsters who are relatively common in the Championship. Jaihidi is on his last legs and will not be here next year but is an ample backup when fit However until this happens and god forbid Fonte is injured/suspended, we are a bit light in central defence
Saint Garrett Posted 25 August, 2011 Share Posted 25 August, 2011 Jaidi is a liability. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Yes he had a good season in the end last year, and he's clearly got something to offer the squad. But IMO it's not on the pitch. Although not convinced by Martin or Seaborne either, and this is why I am desparate for us to bring in a new CB and NA clearly believes the same thing. AndyNorthernSaints Posted 25 August, 2011 Share Posted 25 August, 2011 He was a rock last season and won everything in the air. Don't think i saw him beaten to a header all season. Not sure why people are writing him off before he even plays a championship game this season. Plenty of defenders play on in their mid and late thirties. dronskisaint Posted 25 August, 2011 Share Posted 25 August, 2011 I still think he's excellent to have but not, obviously, for every game. To say he can't head is lunacy...he's dominant and positions himself to be first to the ball even when not favourite to be so. He did suffer a worrying period last year when he seemed to lose the ability and confidence to do simple passes to feet but this improved towards the end of the campaign. I think he's worth his contract extension to have available for the type of forwards mentioned earlier in this thread...his hunger to get involved last year was an example to much younger players. ecuk268 Posted 25 August, 2011 Share Posted 25 August, 2011 Dan - is the Ramadan theory credible? There was an article in the Independent recently on how Muslim professional footballers cope with Ramadan. There's a surprising number of them in the 4 leagues. They still maintain their nutrition to stay fit but cut out the luxuries and have a much plainer diet.
Rasiak-9- Posted 25 August, 2011 Share Posted 25 August, 2011 I assume you didn't make it to many Saints games last season? Season ticket holder. Jaidi will occasionally have a good game on the condition that our opponents do little else than wallop the ball forward to a target man but if they're capable of getting the ball down and playing it Jaidi is a liability; fortunately Fonte did brilliantly at babysitting him last year and since we had a great midfield that dominated most games he rarely came under pressure. The Saints 1-3 Brighton season before last meant that Jaidi was pretty much found out, and its no surprise that Pardew at the time instantly went about looking for new defenders. If the ball is in the air, Jaidi is a great battering ram; unfortunately he adds little else.

Saints major problem defensively these past couple of seasons has been vulnerability to the counter-attack and Jaidi simply gets it one-twoed past him way too easily. We need a modern centre-back in the Rio Ferdinand mould. An Athlete. Preferably a younger player to grow alongside Fonte and quite possibly form a partnership that could last right into our first season back in the Premiership. Finally, even if Jaidi is ok at the moment, he's still a short-term option because of his age. We need to look to the future.
