Aardvark Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 Why oh why do we always hear goalkeepers shouting, "Away!" at the top of their voices as soon as a ball comes anywhere near the penalty area? Where else are the defenders going to aim it? Maybe without this vital piece of advice a centre back might get confused and accidentally kick it into the goal? saintwarwick Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 Don't cricketers shout "catch it" when the ball is in the air. Just a reactionary call I would of thought.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 Being a keeper, I use the term "AWAAAAAAAAY!!!!" to inform by defence that they have opposition right up their rear and they have no time to take a touch and pussy foot about. It works for me.
Big Bad Bob Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 "MINE!" what does that mean? A free kick for obstruction. One has to call using one's name I believe Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk

lettuce Posted 25 August, 2011 Share Posted 25 August, 2011 Are opposition players allowed to shout "AWAY!" or "MAN ON!" when there is actually nobody near the player in possesion? Or is that also classed as obstruction? How about if a player shouts the name of an opposition player, rather than shouting "MINE!" in order to fool an opposition player into leaving the ball for them? Or what about if 2 players on opposing teams have the same name? Are they not allowed to shout their own name for fear of being penalised for confusing the opposition? Just thinking of ways to gain a slight competitive advantage via devious means!

It works for me. Being a former custodian myself this is exactly the reason I used to shout away. "Dear centre back, you appear to have an opposition striker right up your chuff, lets not faff about, lets get rid" just didnt work.
