Puncheon plays

Forte not even good enough to make the u21s!

He'll be part of the matchday squad, I'd imagine. Whether he makes the final 16 is another matter.

Looks like Dickson and Holmes aren't part of Nige's plans. Is this Holmes' last year? I think we gave him a 4 year (gulp!) deal. May do a job for a Lge 1 team on loan. He just aswell try and get games if he's fit. He hasn't played much in the past 3 seasons here, and not much before that either...

As much as I think Puncheon is a **** and his attitude stinks' date=' I'd still love to have him back in the 1st team squad, minus the attitude. Obviously never gonna happen though.[/quote']

Couldn't agree more. Definitely has the quality, just needs fans to get off his back and support him. He showed his quality at Millwall and Blackpool on loan.

He had the support. He blew it. He lost the support. Simple.

he certainly lost it on here and with a vocal percentage of the crowd, but I'd of thought your average Saints fan wonders what the hell happened.

Could well be a few scouts there if Punch is playing, so probably doing both Holmes and Dickson a favour.

Dickson would walk into any league 1 side. Unfortunately I doubt there is one that could pay him what he earns here.

for the u21's ....nice

Saints U21s vs Brentford: Dovey, Stephens, Dean, Racine, Dickson, Isgrove, Robinson, Reeves, Holmes, Puncheon, Hoskins

U21 doesn't mean so much. These are mostly over 18's and older players who are on the fringe and aren't likely to make the bench too often, but nevertheless are "senior" players.

I think he needs NA's support TBH and its not looking like that will be forth coming unless this is the start of the long road back.

with you totally on that. Fox had better be the nuts as Dickson hardly put a foot wrong for me.

I've actually just got off the blower with a very good friend of mine who looks after player recruitment for Cardiff; he's said that he was a bit surprised to see that we went for Fox as we already had Harding and Dickson plus Mills, but he thinks that in Fox we've got a very good player who's better than all of them.

In the same sentence, your friend both queried and supported the decision for Saints to sign Fox. :)

Suspect Holmes is getting outing for match fitness, hasn't had much opportunity to play yet since impressing in pre-season. Doubt he is on his way out. Dickson maybe off, but with Mills now gone to Reading suspect Dickson may also be getting match time. Puncheon though, just keeping him fit so that he is ready for some mug team to take him off our hands.

Yes, as funny as it sounds. Questioned it, in that he saw we already had 2 or 3 players at left back who could do a job, so we weren't weak in that department. But then clarified that Fox was a better player than all three, and therefore it was better to sign him that not.

The two concepts aren't mutually exclusive. *smiley winky thing*

To be fair, it only echos what most on here were saying at the time, that it wasn't the position we most needed to strngthen but, if its adds to the quality of the first team, why not?

I can't see how it would even be possible, since he does not have a First Team squad number any more.

Now that would be a real stinker for someone who somehow though they still had a future at the club!

It would be possible, as they would just give him a squad number if there was ever a situation where he was needed to play.

Exactly the same thing happened with Rob Lee (previously number 7) at Newcastle under Ruud Gullit - ostracised and training with the kids, no squad number and no future at the club. After Gullit got the bullet (!) Rob Lee got given number 37 and almost immediately got back into the team. Of course the differences here are that Lee was hugely popular and hadn't actually done anything wrong, whilst Gullit was unpopular, not entirely unrelated to his treatment of Rob Lee and lack of success - not the same situation as with Adkins and Puncheon at all.

Nowadays Lee would have been out of the 25-man squad in the Prem so it would have been an issue - but in the Football League, you just add another player to the squad numbers.
