Saint Without a Halo Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Is he that much better than Seabourne?
skintsaint Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Played a lot at this level, don't really know more about him.
Saint-Reece Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Only 25... Better than getting someone in their late 20' early 30's I suppose?
goodymatt Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/138481-southhampton-interested-in-fonts/
stu0x Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Injured since the opening day, which would make it an odd signing
Greenridge Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 (edited) Only 25... Better than getting someone in their late 20' early 30's I suppose? Not if the latter is better I guess.... Edited 23 August, 2011 by Greenridge
Bad Wolf Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Decent player at this level. Would still perfer Kaspers Whatshisface but Fontaine would easilly make it in our side ahead of Seabourne.
Saint Stimp Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Fonte and Fontaine, could get a bit tricky for Dave Merrington.
Greenridge Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Fonte and Fontaine, could get a bit tricky for Dave Merrington. ....not fortgetting Forte as well. Poor Dave
Golden Balls Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Liam Fontaine baby, Liam Fontaine oooooooooooh
david in sweden Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Fonte and Fontaine, could get a bit tricky for Dave Merrington. and especially if Jonathan Forte is on the bench, eh Dave ?
vin Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Their fans certainly rated him a couple of years back: http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/112166-liam-fontaine/
david in sweden Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Is he that much better than Seabourne? Same age group round 25, and he's certainly played more games ..I read 200+ ...and Bristol City have been in CCC.. ( most of /all )..of that time, I think?
Minsk Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Don't know a great deal about him but only 5'9'' (1.8m) so hardly the 'rock' replacement to play alongside Fonte that many were hoping for. Hmmm, I think I'll wait and see if this is really happening or not. And, of course, in Nigel I trust.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Their fans certainly rated him a couple of years back: http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/112166-liam-fontaine/ times change - remember when we all loved Saga?

skintsaint Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Don't know a great deal about him but only 5'9'' ( 6'2 according to wiki....the reliable wiki.
Minsk Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Their fans certainly rated him a couple of years back: http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/112166-liam-fontaine/ Reading that it would appear he is left footed, as he previously played as a LB. So that part fits the bill. Hmmmm........

Hmmm, I think I'll wait and see if this is really happening or not. And, of course, in Nigel I trust. well to start with ...1.80m. is 5' 11" (+/- a bit...), maybe he was 5'9" when he was a junior and no-one has updated the stats.?
vin Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Left footed, quick and can pass... but doesn't seem to be the dominant centre half we need
Minsk Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 If he's 1.8m tall, he's around 6 foot. 6'2 according to wiki....the reliable wiki. It says 5' 9'' on Soccerbase and 1.8m on SkySports. I'm thinking (hoping, if we are in for him - as 5'9'' is short for a CB) that Soccerbase have screwed up. My reasoning is this: 1.8m = 5.9ft this, of course, = 5' 11'', but they just put it at 5'9''. Mind you 5'11'' still isn't big for a CB; I believe Jose is 6'1''; so this partnership would make him the big guy.
Minsk Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Left footed, quick and can pass... but doesn't seem to be the dominant centre half we need Well, we do do need left footed, quick and able to pass. That is certainly what we will need this coming Saturday. Certainly no need for a Jaidi against someone like Vassell. And if we do play a team with a huge lump, we can use the squad (i.e. Jaidi/Seaborne) accordingly.

CWD Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 He's 6'2" according to his profile on their OS: http://www.bcfc.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10327~30595,00.html Don't know anything about him, so I will refrian from commenting, but in Nige we trust!
eelpie Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 On that same site Sven rules out buying Maynard (apols if already posted). More likely NA would still be after him I'd thought, but perhaps Nigel's negotiating an offer for both. (Please let Puncheon be part of it).
Glasgow_Saint Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Swap Puncheon + Seabourne + £3m for Fontaine + Maynard?
Danbert Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Well, we do do need left footed, quick and able to pass. That is certainly what we will need this coming Saturday. del boy Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Couldn't we just call him Danny Fontaine to save confusion
Saint Fan CaM Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 The key attribute is - can he pass the ball out of defence? I think he can pass well, so not being a big brute shouldn't be overly important. We need a calm and collected pair of CB's - not players (like Seaborne) that (a) get caught the wrong side of their man and (b) panic under pressure and hoof the ball straight back to the opposition.
modern matron Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/story-13186598-detail/story.html
SuperMikey Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Good centre-back for this level, he would be ahead of Seaborne, Jaidi and Martin in my estimations, but still not good enough to say that position is sorted imo.
thesaint sfc Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 It is cleary to follow the trend of Fonte and Forte.
bristolsaint29 Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Just been speaking to a city fan, pretty mobile, reads the game well and bit of a lump of a bloke, will be sorry to see him go.
SaintRichmond Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Couldn't we just call him Danny Fontaine to save confusion As long as it's not Margo Fontaine ......
Seaford Saint Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Not wishing to be contraversial but Seaborne has looked at least as good as Fonte recently.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Not wishing to be contraversial but Seaborne has looked at least as good as Fonte recently. WHAT did you say?
saintscottofthenortham Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Not wishing to be contraversial but Seaborne has looked at least as good as Fonte recently. david in sweden Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 As long as it's not Margo Fontaine ...... we maybe have someone come up with a text like ..Three ***** in a Fontaine, no sorry Fonte..or was it Forte? ..Oh dear there's a song there somewhere...
scott_saints Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Seaborne has looked as good as Fonte? Make it stop!!
Golden Balls Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 Not wishing to be contraversial but Seaborne has looked at least as good as Fonte recently. Pardon? Go and have a lay down

Face up chaps, the window is closing fast and nobody else is coming here - at least nobody you've ever heard of. I've heard of Fontaine, as an Arsenal fan your knowledge of the Championship is lacking, well all round football knowledge probably.

SNSUN Posted 23 August, 2011 Posted 23 August, 2011 There's got to be a caption competition with this photo. His nipples look like they could cut glass.
