Saint_Mabes Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 I'll admit I know nothing about this lad, but from the bbc article i like his attitude/desire. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14650633.stm "He wanted to leave three or four weeks ago, then we said no, but for his own sake he needs to play." "I know that he's frustrated, angry maybe, that's normal, he's young and he has to play football," Eriksson added.
sir woody Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 This would make absolutely no sense to me. Leicester are a rival to us and we are both looking to sign the best players in the division, so signing someone not deemed good enough for their team makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Im pretty sure we can do better than this to be honest, link is from the star so wouldn't read too much into it and fourth official hasn't exactly got everyhthing right thus far Spot on ! .comsaint Posted 24 August, 2011 Share Posted 24 August, 2011 Rickie Lambert has had a very good start to life in the Championship - and I'm sure some on here are watching a different game to me! He's made goals for others - scored himself - and acts as a great foil because many managers see him as the biggest threat - allowing the likes of Connolly more time & space. And if Sir Rickie doesn't score 20 goals this season himself - I will cut off my penis with a rusty old bread knife!

Although tbf he does get a lot of other stuff on the nose.

Yes, he has been mentioned, and his side - Genk- also qualified for Champions league last night. So at first sight the CL with Genk or Championship in England might be a difficult choice. Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 26 August, 2011 Share Posted 26 August, 2011 Maybe the rumours about Barney being part of the Baldock deal are true & Waghorn is to fill the gap left by his departure, if Barney is off?
Dalek2003 Posted 26 August, 2011 Share Posted 26 August, 2011 This signing would make sense. A bit of a gamble yeas, but Waghorn is young and with potential. I am sure we will get him at at a reasonable price and with good coaching will turn into a real asset. Also, this fits what I believe is the aim this season, namely consolidation and building the team over the next two or three years ready for a push on promotion. If we were in a hurry to get promoted this year we would surely have spent big like Leicester and Wham with ready made quick fix solutions. thorpie the sinner Posted 26 August, 2011 Share Posted 26 August, 2011 There is no way on earth we are looking for promotion in 3 years!! What you seem to forget is we had a majorly settled side, only needing a few tweaks! couple of signings, Baldock hopefully, a solid centre back, our aim is promotion this year!! test the water and buy again in jan! consolidation , absolutely no way! Webby Posted 26 August, 2011 Share Posted 26 August, 2011 I've a nasty feeling that if we don't sign Maynard or jrod, we'll regret it, even if it does cost 5-6m. Like I said in another thread, forget the cash and think of it as swapping oxo for a striker, a cb, and still have cash left over.

Interesting comparison. When I read about Waghorn he reminded me of another former Saint when he signed for us, Gordon Watson, as he seems a similar build and style of play. capitalsaint Posted 26 August, 2011 Share Posted 26 August, 2011 I saw on a forum that Waghorn was good under Pearson because they could knock the ball over the top for him to run onto, but lost his way under Sousa and Sven as they like teams to play a bit and he doesn't have the control... Dalek2003 Posted 26 August, 2011 Share Posted 26 August, 2011 If hes not good enough for leicester Hes not good enough for us Not always true, that logic. As has been said here, Leicester have bought heavily and those big name stars will obviously start. Waghorn has been pushed down the pecking order. However, he is young and has potential. With the right management and coaching he could be a great asset to the club for many years. SFC are obviously building for the long term, fans need to be patient. If we lose against leicester for example, the last thing we want is the doom mongers droning on about not winning the league as if it is the be all and end all ! It's all about the future and building a team that'll play together for years to come. That is diametrically opposed to the way Leicester are going about things. If they go up the chances are they almost completely rebuild again. It's like Torres, he has to play cos they paid so much for him.

Badger Posted 26 August, 2011 Share Posted 26 August, 2011 The more I think about the Waghorn situation the more i feel it could be a very astute signing. Adkins has a good track record of working with and improving strikers. At Sc^nthorpe he had Sharp & Keogh initially (although signed by his predecesssor I think) and then brought in Patterson, and then Hooper both of whom were then sold on. Hooper was signed for £200,000 and sold for £2m.
