Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 ...when are we next playing in the Carling Cup? Is it not the 2nd round this week?
stevegrant Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 The Bristol City v Swindon game in the first round was postponed due to the looting ****s in Bristol. That game is being played on Tuesday, and we travel to the winners. Not 100% sure when that game will be arranged for, though. It's a two-week international break immediately after the Leicester game.
beatlesaint Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 29th August or 13 September due to our opponents playing their first round match this week :-) According to the FL website the 29th IF there are no international call ups affecting said teams involved. This Charming Man Posted 22 August, 2011 Share Posted 22 August, 2011 Put out a reserve side and let's get knocked out. Our team looked knackered on Saturday, we don't need any more pointless mid-week games.

Agree, although with the strength of our squad, there is no guarentee they would lose!

I'd just like to see 11 changes from the team that starts against Leicester.

I never, ever, ever, want Saints to lose a match; and I think Adkins is the same. He made 8 changes in the last round and there is no reason to think he wouldn't the same again this time, or the next, or the next.......

I want Saints to win every game and get through to latter stages of cup competitions. Any fan wishing Saints to get knocked out should not be allowed a ticket to any big name game later in the competition.

If we win with a reserve side out, then so be it. If we lose, I couldn't care less, TBH. What if Lallana was to break his leg at the County Ground? It was no coincidence that we looked poor going forward on Saturday as he wasn't 100%. Him getting a long term injury would put an end to any promotion hopes (I honestly do believe that). In 5 years time, no one will remember us getting knocked out by a Aston Villa reserve side in the 4th round, though people will remember us making the play-offs or getting promoted. It's all about priorities.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 22 August, 2011 Share Posted 22 August, 2011 I was one of the few posters on here who predicted that we had a chance of promotion this season and understand the league is priority but he(Lallana) could break his leg in training. We have a squad that should be competative in cup competitions. People will also remember Saints getting to and playing at Wembley or playing against Man Utd/Arsenal etc and giving a good account of ourselves. Winning games breeds a winning mentality and confidence. I'm glad Saints take competitions seriously and are not one of those teams who take the **** out of fans travelling to games by putting out a team of kids etc. Didn't go to Torquay due to ill health and work making home midweek games difficult. Go to as many home and away games as i can including ones in the south.

Same goes for all our key players.
