Transfer Window Countdown

Saint Charlie

Recommended Posts

I always said we have two deals agreed and this week the transfer movement will be in full swing.

QPR takeover finally happens and we get our CB, Leicester get a striker at last and we get Wagthorn (does not inspire me but maybe he's a back up striker for Barnard)

Yakubu?

Holt?

Waghorn was rumoured a while back, around the time those twitter ITKs started talking up Saints movement in the transfer market. Would be a decent signing IMO, did well when he first joined Leicester, probably suffered due to Sven's obsession with big names and players who were good in the champ 2 or 3 years ago. He's only 21, so at that age there is potential for improvement.

Janki, Baldock, Goryks, Fontaine, Jay Rod, Maynard & Waghorn?

Somehow Saints will not bring all those players in, probably not any of them as IMHO it's agent talk or Saints putting out feeders to keep the press away from the real targets?

We have some serious money available and the club are sitting pretty on top of the league, Are Adkins and Cortese going to sign someone that's going to blow our minds and take us to the next level?

I reckon we are in for a big surprise as it's gone too quiet from the club lately.

I still think we may sign Maynard as BC will drop their price on deadline day. Let's face it, good as he is, come January they'd get 1m max given his contract expiry.

It's an odd situation. BC aren't going up, I doubt they think they'll challenge. They're not rich, they have a valuable player. So what do they gain by hanging onto Maynard but 4 months or the full season? They could replace him and stay up, but keeping him, although probably making safety easier, loses them 5m+.

It's a Nasri situation.

It's called holding your nerve to get the best price for Bristol City.

If rumours are correct that West Ham, Leicester and Saints are interested then they will sell him to the highest bidder a day before this transfer window closes.

It would not surprise me If Bristol City bring in a few deals themselves afterwards knowing they have the money coming in.

Don't hold your breath...we may still sign someone on the 31st.....

I hope so, I love a deadline day signing. I reckon we'll have our striker and centre back by then, even with the Fontaine deal falling through, and that it'll be a suprise signing in a position we didn't think we needed. (GK or RB are my guesses.)

Something suprising is coming, I can feel it in me bones. We'll use our first 4 game form to our advantage.

(Disclaimer: If nothing happens I deny all knowledge of this post.)

You keep saying this Pilchards and whilst I think you are a decent poster, it just doesn't seem likely. We were looking to sign Fontaine today and that just doesn't seem like a signing to blow our minds and we haven't got close to a really great signing like Maynard and Rodriguez. Hope you are right though!

Btw what would a mind-blowing signing be (mindful you have taken people to task for being unrealistic)? You would spend £6m on Maynard or Rodriguez?

Yes I think it would be worth it TBH. We won't have lost any money after our OC windfall and it will significantly boost our promotion chances- something worth about 90 million. Coupled with the fair play rules coming in, this may be our final chance to use our financial muscle to strengthen. Once we are in the prem, players like Jay Rod would no doubt cost more, so it is worth getting them in now to develop with us.

Don't hold your breath especially as Cortese probably has not factored in automatic promotion for this season. We know he has a five year plan and wouldn't fancy Year 4 being relegation from the PL. Expect that this season he will be happy enough with consolidation despite our record start with a BIG push next season. No way this team would survive up top and Mr Cortese knows it. Nor are we Man City, so don't expect him to buy the NPC or PL titles.

So you think the best way for us to improve the side is to NOT get promoted? To NOT make use of the many, many extra millions that would be available to us from TV rights, prize money, extra gate money, corporate sales etc? Even if we got relegated we would be due however many tens of millions from the parachute payments, which in itself would fund a major squad overhaul.

But no, much better to not get promoted.

I think that this is a very plausible scenario. However, because it has been written by a poster who like myself is prepared to hold controversial or unpopular viewpoints it will probably be rubbished !
