Sam Baldock

Sam Baldock was not the striker Southampton were progressing in a deal for, he was an option but West Ham was always his preferred choice

I think he knows sweet f*ck all!!

It's fairly common knowledge we're after another striker so it was hardly much of a gamble for him to say we're close to signing an unnamed player. Now it's on SSN that Baldock looks to be signing for WHU he says it wasn't him... I call bull sh1t!!

Don't think anybody knows much of what goes on behind closed doors at St Mary's but to be fair to him he didn't name Baldock when he said we were progressing a striker and has only said Waghorn now (apparently depending on another deal), while throwing his toys out of the pram, while he is getting a lot of sh!t from Saints fans.

Not necessarily only "Financial Priudence" We have a happy squad, all signed on contracts that they are also happy with. That will be our great base to build on this season.

Start bringing in outsiders to better the team they'll be happy. Start bringing outsiders in who are on Double The Money but "haven't proven their worth at THAT level yet" - recipe for dissent and disaster.

The team will all be working together to earn PL level wages, bring in some "Johnny Come Lately" who's already on them - no thanks

Never underestimate the Mental Side of football (and that includes other bankrupt (ish) clubs doubling our wage offers)

Spot on. The idea that a younger player who's achieved less in the game than say Lallana or Fonte or Lambert could be on higher wages (I'm speculating) is a nonstarter for me.

I appreciate that, but I assume that these are first choice CB`s and strikers. The list of targets for these positions must be shrinking.

How can we have three "first choice" strikers as transfers targets?

IMO this Fourth_Official chap is an attention seeker who is getting massive kicks from all the saddo drama Queen's on here who are hanging on his every tweet. Grip up people, the OS will tell us when we've signed someone.

Agree, has he actually got one thing correct yet? I don't know why everyone is taking what he says as gospel.

We still need a striker with pace, don't think Waghorn fits that criteria and if he's a possible replacement for Lambert, i'd rather we signed Lukas from Coventry instead, from what i've seen of him, he has a bit more pace than Lambert and is developing his upper body strength nicely as he is able to hold off defenders and score now.

As for Pace, let's make Fiorentina an offer for Papa, given his contract status, we may get him for around the £500,000 mark and we'd have someone who can keep up with De Ridder, which had we had last weekend, would of killed off Millwall, too many times he broke with the ball and then had to check back and wait for the others to catch up.

Alternatively, lets get every penny of the Chambo money and whatever is left over of this years budget from Markus and make Chelsea an offer for Sturridge, yes we'd be unlikely to get him to drop a division, but it would be a massive statement of intent and if he did, I doubt any of the other players would argue disparity of wage, for a player that would make such a huge impact on the quality of the squad.

This whole post points to me that you haven't got a f**king clue what you're talking about.

Fourth_Official really doesn't know his Saints news, he said we would be signing Jemal and Gorkss at the beginning of the month, those didn't happen.

He said we were interested in Nicky Maynard but Radio Solent said Saints had never been interested in signing him.

He didn't mention anything about the three we signed until they were announced by the club.

Maybe we'll miss out on some signings, but I really don't care. I'm fed up seeing people come in purely for money.

Money don't make my world go 'round

I'm reaching up for the higher ground

Every player (unless stuuuupid) will sign for the club paying the most.

I love Saints but if they offered me 50p a week and WHU offered me 40k I would sign for WHU - as would you

Exactly. Makes perfect sense, but such thinking seems to go out the window for many when there's a chance to be negative and moan like hell.

Maybe we'll miss out on some signings, but I really don't care. I'm fed up seeing people come in purely for money. If they can't see what we're building and want to be a part of it, fine, go elsewhere. As you say, destroying a good squad morale and fully gelled team for the sake of 1 player is crazy.

Agree up to a point, though can't help be a bit disappointed when players turn us down, whoever they are. Suspect NC is a v proud not to say arrogant man to deal with. But my main worry is that no-one seems to be talking about our real need - a decent CB. The squad will look very thin there...

Nah not true for some. It will always be a combination of wages, quality of club, likelihood of success of club, what the area is like to live in / nearness to friends and relllys. As MLT once said when challenged about not moving for big money "Its my home. I've got a four bed detached house , two cars and if I retire at 30 I'll never have to work again. Why would I move?"

Well not only would I not sign for any club on 50p a week, but i'd probably sign for West Ham on the basis i'm crap and i'd rather be their Tommy Forecast than be another one at saints.

Trouble is that the last two years strategy of buying up the leagues best players and/or a player or two from the league above is not really happening at the moment. OK, you could argue that Cork has come from the Prem albeit reserves. Fox is not displacing Harding and hasn't been able to show he's worthy yet anyway. De Ridder I think could be classed as a cut above the average for the squad and from a decent team. It's a tough balance - we don't want the team spirit upset sure, but there are areas of the team that need strengthening and whoever comes in must be an improvement on what we've got. Baldock going to West Ham could be a blow - he is a good player that would have really added to the team.

You misunderstand me. I meant bottom of the lost of strikers I would want.

Probably mine as well....going by the Leicester forum I read but....Connoly and Lambert are my 2 top choices anyway.

I like Guly, Barnard is a goalscorer for me and has a decent record once the court case is out of the way think he can

be a big plus for the squad.

We do however need a forward to turn them round but that requires a quick early ball which goes against

how we have started playing this season.

Would Waghorn go straight in?? Not sure he would so he would just be in same position as he is in at Leicester.

For me our urgent need is a quality centre half.

Shame. I'm sure he'll do well there but he probably just thinks West Ham are definitely going up while we're progressing more slowly, albeit more steadily and sensibly.

Worried we'll go into negative overdrive on here though, especially when we lose to nil tomorrow!

Signing 2 players now would be rubbish anyway. How would that create an exciting deadline day?

Never mind ! Who cares if we don't sign yet another one of our targets. If he doesn't want to come here that is his loss. I would only ask any player to look at the league table and see who is top !

We have proven already that we have a team that can challenge for the league table and it has only taken 4 games to prove that.

Anyway, when we beat Leicester that should persaude a few of our targets to sign before the transfer deadline !

It must just be me as whilst I think Baldock is a decent player I genuinely dont think he is any better than Barnard..................So I am not at all worried about us not getting him. If you were to offer me just 1 more signing then it would be a centre half not a striker.

As for not getting our first, second or even third choice......not at all bothered. We appear to have a genuine team spirit & that my friends can not be bought for hundreds of millions of pounds!!!!

But we can still have a genuine team spirit with the right top signing as well. Signing a great player doesn't mean the team spirit disappears necessarily.
