Surely phil will have comfirmed it Eric?? over an Innis and Gunn??

I can definitely confirm IT.

No idea about transfers but IT - yeah know lots about that, Microsoft, Google etc.

And anyway it was Hoegaarten last night, a bored buddy invited me out for a few Ales at the Belgain beer Cafe where 1) they showed some clips of our goals on the telly

2) A Geordie fan was lamenting that they had got the wrong Southampton Manager

3) Best comment of the year about us...

You're top of the NpC? Sheeet, I thought I was reading the paper upside down

The best clue is in Karl Robinson's statement.

"We've had another offer, I don't want to name the other club, and the club deserves the respect to not be named. We will do our business in a sensible and respectful way."

Sounds like dealing with us...

May also tie in with the apparent excellent relations between the clubs at board level after Winkelman's sympathetic stance following Markus' death last year. He was under no obligation to agree to our request to postpone the original fixture, let alone be so publicly supportive with his comments at the time.

Cant say I know much about him to be honest, but I gather he is only 5'7" and is therefore another partner-for-Lambert sort of player ....presumably Connolly's long term replacement if as it seems Barnard is now being overlooked. Fine. I hope he lives up to expectation and the hype, and look forward to seeing him play if he does come here.

But am I the only person who thinks we (also) need an understudy for Rickie, or better still, competition for him? I rate Rickie, but if he is injured or loses form I do not see who we would play in his place. Who else can play a target man role?

Here we go again

Why take that as gospel? And why assume WHU will get him? It was widely reported on MK baords and elsewhere that a bid had been accepted and that Baldock had travelled down to talk to us. SSN are not privy to everything and often get it wrong (Elliot Ward anybody?); look on the bright side - he may well join us. Bailey certainly seems to think so and Saints own physio said it's pretty much a done deal. Have faith, friend....

Agree, and I think this was the role they had in mind for Rodriguez who might both play alongside, and instead of RL, probably grooming him to be RL's replacement in a couple of years or when we reach the Prem.

Short term, I suspect Guly may be played up front when RL is not available or rested.

This is quite obviously now a ding-dong between us and WHU. They'll offer him massive wages (as that's their way, despite being in all sorts of debt) so it's the players choice. Personally i suspect he'll go to WHU a)because of the wages, b)because it's London c)he wont be 1st choice here, he'll be behind Connolly and d)they'll pay his agent a fortune

Seems I've jumped the gun a bit claiming it's done, my apologies.

However, still very confident a deal will go through, but West Ham aren't willing to lose out on another target.

In short, they've significantly upped their offer to both player and club, but I still believe Baldock will come here.

Not long to wait until we find out!

Ha Ha .... Nasty Nic threatened him with the horses head treatment

Love the way The Echo hasn't said a dickie bird about this deal after the Fontaine episode.

haha Eric...are they dealing with Don Corleone or Don Cortese?

Karl Robinson knows that size of the fee doesn't come to an L1 side too often ..an offer he can't refuse!

If we don't sign him, the virtual reality suicide rate is going to rocket with SaintsWeb posters.

If West Ham have significantly upped their offer, why would you be confident in him coming to us? we wouldnt compete with what West Ham would offer if they don't want to lose out on another target.

So do you believe he'll come to Saints due to prefering the non financial side of things (if WH have increased their offer above ours?)

Because he's a very level-headed lad, it won't come down to money. If he feels he has a better chance of playing and developing as a player with us, he'll come to St. Mary's.

That's me done on here for now though, just wait and see. I'm confident, and worry not if it doesn't come off. There are a number of other targets so keep the faith.

Interview in The Chairmans Executive Office .... Steely Eyed Nasty Nic staring across the table making throat sliiting / horse head threats .......... or Karen Brady thrusting her bra less voluptuous breasts towards him and then leaning back and stretching her crotchless stockened legs over the table and opening them up to reveal a winking offer amongst the ravenous bush...... (Big_Sam eat your fukkin heart out!) ... no contest tbh. :scared:

Why would he.

See above!!!

Jack Cork an example of the club getting a player who was linked with numerous clubs

We will get the deal done

Clubs like burnley and Blackpool who are worse than us by a distance. West ham are a different matter. I don't think it is necessarily our fault this one if he doesn't sign, but I am concerned by the amount of transfers that get close only for it not to happen.
