Sam Baldock

Given the way he's started the season, and the crazy figures quoted for other players, I'd be very happy with Baldock. Bailey said we were tracking him last season as well. He'd compliment our other strikers very well, has stepped up a gear this season and fits in with our policy.

Yep, ticks alot of boxes. He's not the big name many crave, but give him a year at this level and he could become one of the better players outside the top flight. I watched him very closely down at St Mary's when we came back from 2-0 down, he was electric and I remember breathing a sigh of relief when he was subbed (we went on to win after he went off)

the hatrick he scored the other day was superb and he looks like he is absolutely flying right now. He looks like he has the ability and confidence to create and score goals off his own back rather than needing them supplied on a plate. I like that kind if striker a lot. He was "excited" with the move to the Posh. I would have thought what we've got going on right now might.

I notice the following "I don't want to name the club, the club deserves the respect to not be named." quote from the manager. There seemed to be great respect between the two clubs when they agreed to the postponement, I wonder if that wording is significant?

What sort of striker is he?

Allow me some creative license here, but if Billy Sharp was the Robbie Fowler of the championship, and Maynard is the Thierry Henry of the championship, Baldock is probably the Michael Owen of league 1.

(In that he's little, fast and deadly - not that he's injured all the time) :)

As soon as I read that I immediately realised that it stinks of Saints and Cortese - keep everything hush hush and behind the scenes as Nige would say. Now you mention the postponement, that also fits in with the respect quote.

Did you notice a few posts down when someone questioned the original poster and another guy said about him: "This guy has got a near immaculate record with rumours."

Yes I did........I hope he has got another one right.

I wonder if Ryan Dickson will be part of the deal, he has just tweeted "appreciate the support guys, we will have to see what happens"

Strange thing to say if he isnt on the move ?

looked pretty good in posession at 1.28 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14514567.stm when he scores his third

Yep a cracking goal -seen him quite a lot the last two seasons. Remember he didn't like to get the ball in tight areas and tended to release it a tad quick when under pressure. For a player who should be playing on the shoulder of the last defender, also dropped deep a lot. But his pace, movement, ability to work goals out of nothing and willingness to track back do tick a lot of boxes.

So he could the Marian Pahars of League 1, since MIchael Owen was the English Marian Pahars

For under 2m I'd be happy. Good player and young with good potential, which we don't have in the striker department.

Still, it does appear we don't want to spend much right now. Unless they just think he's better than Maynard.

Suppose there's always January and loans though. Or maybe Cortese wants to build a fund for if and when we go up.

Not sure they think he is better than Maynard now but he has a lot of potential. He is certainly better value for money if the around £2M is to be believed compared with £5M plus for Maynard.

My brother is a mk st holder and loves Baldock. i have seen him play a few time and he is very similar in style to Owen. lots of pace and a good finisher. unfortunately he is also as fragile as Owen and spends a lot of time out injured. if he can stay fit he would fit into our team and style of play very well.
