Royce2uk Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I don't see why these are mutually exclusive. I'm sure NA isn't naive enough to not bring in both. This is visible by the fact we've been interested in Gorkss, Jemal, Fontaine.....and Maynard, Rodriguez, Baldock. Atleast we have a manager who is targetting the areas which need strengthening rather than having someone like Burley in charge who loved midfielders and then playing them at full back !!! I dont think they are mutually exclusive, but with the close of the window approaching i would rather us focus on a CB and then possibly get a ST in on loan. Lambert, Connolly, Guly, Barnard, De Ridder and Lallana are all capable of playing in advance positions and therefore not short of options.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 This list goes on......... Gorkss Kemal Fontaine Sharp Maynard Baldock :( :( :( :(
georgeweahscousin Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 MK Citizen now tweeting Baldock at Upton Park.
SuperSAINT Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Yep, damn! MKCitizenSport Simon Downes Sam Baldock at Upton Park now and all being well he will sign for West Ham shortly for around £2 million #MKDons
SuperSAINT Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Disappointed, but if you're competing with either Leicester or West Ham, you aren't going to get anyone (they have no morals)
Thedelldays Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Disappointed, but if you're competing with either Leicester or West Ham, you aren't going to get anyone (they have no morals) no morals...same as us in league 1 then..
shirleysfc Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 NC's ego gets in the way again Of course it did...
Thedelldays Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 NC's ego gets in the way again please feel free to go into detail bet you dont though
georgeweahscousin Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 NC's ego gets in the way again How so?
Guan 2.0 Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 He's made his choice, we move on. If the club want to compete with the West Hams of this league who are willing to risk going into admin or worse by spending their way to promotion, we'd have to start throwing about silly wages and it's just not worth it. Especially when it comes to unproven players like Baldock. Nutshell. The only way they should be able to finance this move is if they're selling a 'big' name. Maybe parker to Tottenham, leaving a void alongside Nolan. As MOsaint says, silly money brinkmanship would not only destroy our wage structure, but also our team spirit, IMHO.
Toadhall Saint Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 NC's ego gets in the way again Eh? How did you come to that conclusion?
miserableoldgit Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 This list goes on......... Gorkss Kemal Fontaine Sharp Maynard Baldock :( :( :( :( It is a bit concerning. You would assume that these were first choice transfer targets as well.
SuperSAINT Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 no morals...same as us in league 1 then.. Totally different levels of morals, DD.
thorpie the sinner Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Think we should refrain from using the phrase 'done deal'...it seems to bite us in the bum as will Baldock when we play the Hammers probably!
Thedelldays Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Totally different levels of morals, DD. not really..when we blew the whole league out of the water two summers ago...when we sign a player that cost as such as the next big three transfers that year...when we sign players from the league above etc etc
Colinjb Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 It is a bit concerning. You would assume that these were first choice transfer targets as well. Yet we have signed Fox, Cork and De Ridder.
Colinjb Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 not really..when we blew the whole league out of the water two summers ago...when we sign a player that cost as such as the next big three transfers that year...when we sign players from the league above etc etc In terms of just the money, yes, you are correct. But we were not gambling the family silver on a direct return to a higher source of income, that was funds assigned to rebuild the club by a benefactor who could easily budget for it.
SuperSAINT Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 not really..when we blew the whole league out of the water two summers ago...when we sign a player that cost as such as the next big three transfers that year...when we sign players from the league above etc etc We weren't competing with teams who could double or triple what we can pay though.
The Kraken Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Im still not convinced a striker is what we really need. especially if its going to cost us an arm and a leg. I would rather put all my focus into bringing a decent CB in. There's no reason that the two are mutually exclusive. Edit: Missed half the thread, this has been covered already *facepalm thingy*
Thedelldays Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 We weren't competing with teams who could double or triple what we can pay though. i know...they were competing with us...we were doing that to teams in league 1...
Give it to Ron Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Yet we have signed Fox, Cork and De Ridder. Fontaine ...how can anyone include him in any list when he failed the medical?
SuperSAINT Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Sky's story... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_7125946,00.html
georgeweahscousin Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 This list goes on......... Gorkss Kemal Fontaine Sharp Maynard Baldock :( :( :( :( I am not sure it is that drastic. 1. No deal agreed. 2. Couldn't agree personal terms. 3. Injury Concerns. 4. Couldn't agree personal terms. 5. No proof whatsoever that we have made bids. Evidence would suggest they want £6 million+ - Too high. 6. Financially outmuscled. Not exactly disastrous cases are they?
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 This list goes on......... Gorkss Kemal Fontaine Sharp Maynard Baldock :( :( :( :( All of these were bluffs to get our rivals to spend all of their money on second rate players. We will now proceed to buy what were our actual targets all along.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 This list goes on......... Gorkss Kemal Fontaine Sharp Maynard Baldock :( :( :( :( We are enquiring with a valuation and fixed wages in mind if the clubs/players dont accept it we go away! this is good business would you rather return to the old days where we bought medicore players for large sums and paid them above the board so our exisitng players lost motivation? I for one would rather have a close knit committed team working together and would not risk losing this by paying a player or a club over the top! Have patience there will be good pickings to have as reality sets in when the window approaches and if not we have the option of loans and then the window again in January. Our exisiting team is currently top of the league with a 100% record we are not that desperate!
miserableoldgit Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Yet we have signed Fox, Cork and De Ridder. I appreciate that, but I assume that these are first choice CB`s and strikers. The list of targets for these positions must be shrinking.
BlakeySFC Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I don't think we'll sign anyone before the transfer window closes, just don't think we have what it takes to see through a signing now.
beavis17 Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Hope this means we push through a deal for Rodriguez now. I much prefer him to Baldock.
Saint_Mabes Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Just remembered Freddy Piquionne is still there. He's too good for bench surely? I've only watched West Ham on TV where they played Cole upfront with Piquionne as a late sub, anyone know whether they play them both up front usually?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 We are enquiring with a valuation and fixed wages in mind if the clubs/players dont accept it we go away! this is good business would you rather return to the old days where we bought medicore players for large sums and paid them above the board so our exisitng players lost motivation? Our exisiting team is currently top of the league with a 100% record we are not that desperate! "In NA we trust" we hear that alot! These were his prime targets and all slipped away.......im a bit worried and im sure NA is too. If you're not thats good
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I am not sure it is that drastic. 1. No deal agreed. 2. Couldn't agree personal terms. 3. Injury Concerns. 4. Couldn't agree personal terms. 5. No proof whatsoever that we have made bids. Evidence would suggest they want £6 million+ - Too high. 6. Financially outmuscled. Not exactly disastrous cases are they? not disastrous - but not great either. These were top of the 'wanted list' now we are looking at plan B (not the singer)
dubai_phil Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 This list goes on......... Gorkss Kemal Fontaine Sharp Maynard Baldock :( :( :( :( Considering the size and quality of our backroom staff and Scouts, I'd be INCREDIBLY concerned with that list. Being so short. You can understand why we were so critical back in the ITK days of whispers about transfers. I bet we've looked at something like 30 or 40 players quite closely. Nobody has even mentioned Anton Ferdinand yet. luckily
dubai_phil Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 (edited) I don't think we'll sign anyone before the transfer window closes, just don't think we have what it takes to see through a signing now. Until the past few days there has been very little movement. Now we see Nasri & probably Modric moving for big bucks which will start to filter around. 'Arry gets 40 mil for Modric he'll start to throw that around as well (looks like WH may be pre-spending the Parker money for example). Quite a few players will become surplus or panic buys will set in. There is still the 25 man squad ruling in the PL which means Man Citeh must be planning to loan out about 250 world class footballers in the next week or so. Lescott's left footed isn't he? thornhill_saints Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official Sam Baldock was not the striker Southampton were progressing in a deal for, he was an option but West Ham was always his preferred choice
Thedelldays Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official Sam Baldock was not the striker Southampton were progressing in a deal for, he was an option but West Ham was always his preferred choice and view from the top says that we are intent on going back for j-rod... hmmmm interesting
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official Sam Baldock was not the striker Southampton were progressing in a deal for, he was an option but West Ham was always his preferred choice he's changed his tune....
saints-cris Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 he's changed his tune.... Waghorn according to the next tweet
shirleysfc Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official Sam Baldock was not the striker Southampton were progressing in a deal for, he was an option but West Ham was always his preferred choice It was mentioned on the Rodrigues thread we may be back in for him, although someone else on Twitter seemed to think Waghorn was the main target.
Thedelldays Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 waghorn/j-rod I will be amazed if we dont have another striker in by next week
Saint Garrett Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Interesting...who's the number one target then? He is the one that reckons Maynard > Leicester so it cant be him. Rodriguez ?
Thedelldays Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Interesting...who's the number one target then? He is the one that reckons Maynard > Leicester so it cant be him. Rodriguez ? who knows in the murky world of football transfers...so much happens that we will ever know the tweet seems to be sure that we are waiting for leicester to sign maynard to tie up waghorn.. waggers would also be a good signing IMO
Chez Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 I don't think we'll sign anyone before the transfer window closes, just don't think we have what it takes to see through a signing now. when you say now, do you mean now teams are trying to take the **** because we have the former right wingers transfer money in our bank account? Or do you mean now we are competing with other big clubs with money available to pay higher wages, or do you mean now we have Cortese at the helm?
Saint Garrett Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Can't say i've seen much of Baldock/Rodriguez/Waghorn/Maynard to be honest.....Let's hope NA brings in the best player value for money.
shirleysfc Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official Sam Baldock was not the striker Southampton were progressing in a deal for, he was an option but West Ham was always his preferred choice I think he knows sweet f*ck all!! It's fairly common knowledge we're after another striker so it was hardly much of a gamble for him to say we're close to signing an unnamed player. Now it's on SSN that Baldock looks to be signing for WHU he says it wasn't him... I call bull sh1t!!
Thedelldays Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 never mind the fourth official....the big_sam cracks me up
shirleysfc Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 never mind the fourth official....the big_sam cracks me up Yep, it's very funny!!
Saint Garrett Posted 26 August, 2011 Posted 26 August, 2011 never mind the fourth official....the big_sam cracks me up TheBig_Sam notBigSam I also fined Carlton Cole a week's wages. He said nothing wrong, to be fair, but I watched him lose the ball to a ****ing training cone. LOL!!!
