Interesting to hear that all of the pre season (and I suppose a lot of current) training seems to be that every time there is running, it is with a ball. Seems very Brazilian in concept and it seems to have worked this season as some of the passing has been sublime.

I've never been a fan of a lot of coaches methods of running players into the ground.

You need to have the ball at your feet as much as possible.

One thing that needs to change at grass roots is this. Less focus on fitness and more on touch and technique. Less 'Get rid of it' and more passing.

We put our young kids into 11 a side, with the offside rule, full size goals etc at the age of 10! Thats ludicrous!! They need the ball at their feet as much as possible.

In my opinion, that's the most important part of training, having the ball at your feet. Glad to see Saints doing it.

I'm not a subscriber, but from what I hear of this training style, then this is why we'll be ready for the prem when we get there. Excellent stuff.

noting really special about that. it was always a given in england that players built their fitness up during pre season and then the fitness aspect of things was overlooked in favour of standard football training during the season. Compare this to the european and brazillian theory of continued fitness work with the ball and it's no surprise that our national side has been so shocking in recent years. Luckily though the introduction of sports science and a more european look at football it has become more common practice over here.
