RobM Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 no, we live is such a wishy washy country...(recent events show this) and would not begrudge someone in a very difficult job slapping a prat (who apparently is a member of her family) like that.... I actually agree with the sentiment, but it wasn't the right thing to do.
Hatch Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 I have a plan, why don't all our tough guy supporters, the ones saying 'come and have a go' while hiding behind rows of coppers, join up as stewards and get a role in the away end for West Ham. They can be right amongst the action then which is just what they want I presume.
Golden Balls Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 What big boys they were goading the Millwall from behind police lines. Pathetic. And the big boys from Millwall were doing exactly the same from the other side of the police lines. Football fans in general.

Knowing the what is supposed to be the reasons behind it all I would like it to be left where it is with no further punishment. Unfortunately her actions could of just stirred up a problem with fans close by but not close enough to know what it's all about could of turned on the stewards as the enemy. It's probably the wishy washy way the country is that would be behind fans thinking they are ok with standing up to police and stewards so catch 22 n all that. Her saving grace is probably how it was dealt with by her colleagues as their actions stopped the situation getting any worse. Slap on the wrist for her to show the club has done something and a re-think on how fans are dealt with after matches would be the sensible outcome IMO
Golden Balls Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 What big boys they were goading the Millwall from behind police lines. Pathetic. If I'm honest, I don't see any problem with that. I'm not one for football violence but I do enjoy banter and winding up opposition fans. And in this video thats all I can see from our lot. 'We are top of the league' 'who are ya?' 'w@nkers..' etc. If they can't take that and feel the need to kick off then it's them that are sad. It's the sort of chants you get every week at every ground. Of course, if it was a case of 'Come on then' and 'We're coming for you' etc behind the police then that is pathetic. It's hardly like the Saints fans were trying to make it look like they were going for them. They were clearly just enjoying themselves and were in a good mood...except that steward lighten up

VectisSaint Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Probably the least embarrassing thing on this video is the steward slapping her brother in law (if indeed that was what we witnessed).
Scoobysaint Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Quite an embarrassing bunch of saints fans giving it the "Billy Big Balls" because they have got the police, police dogs and some stewards to protect them. Try that knobbish behaviour in the return fixture and with any luck they may get the kickin' they so clearly crave.
The Cat Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Quite an embarrassing bunch of saints fans giving it the "Billy Big Balls" because they have got the police, police dogs and some stewards to protect them. Try that knobbish behaviour in the return fixture and with any luck they may get the kickin' they so clearly crave. Fans from all clubs do the same though. Just remember the amount of abuse and gestures that used to pass from the Archers to the away section and back at the Dell. Then the fans would all flood on to the street at the same time and invariably nothing would happen.
Block 5 Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Violence begets violence. The lady involved should have given the gentleman a big hug. Those fans nearby could have joined in to create a group hug. The joyous love vibes would then have spread to supporters of both teams and we could have sung 'Kumbayah' and held hands in a giant circle around SMS. landford.saint Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Didn't see this outside, however Mrs LS witnessed the lady steward in question leaving St. Marys just in front of us. She appeared to be already well wound up and was shouting at some young lad who was just banging on a bin with his hand. Did witness some police officer cascoing someone. Special K Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Slapping a fan is unacceptable, and she should be sacked. She had more balls than the bunch of ****pigs giving it large behind the safety of a line of coppers. ****s.
landford.saint Posted 22 August, 2011 Share Posted 22 August, 2011 Showed the clip to my daughter. She informed me that this iady steward gad been officious towards her at a ptevious game. Threatening to throw her out, and overreacting to the crime of standing when things on the pitch got exciting. This was in the Northam / Kingsland corner quite some way back. Just a thought. I don't know how many people will have seen this incident or more likely the video clip. But doesn't this make her job as a steward a bit difficult. Next match she is bound to get some clever comment from someone. Or even some sort of group chant. Her authority level has been affected, perhaps she should be moved to a less stressful area for a while.£
hamster Posted 22 August, 2011 Share Posted 22 August, 2011 (edited) There could of course be a perfectly plausible and understandable reason why she went a bit ott on Saturday. I don't.think that I need to.spell it out. All men on here will know precisely what I am referring to. Or should that be 'to what I am referring'? No-one had better tell Mrs h that I is making light of this pmt thing, next week yes, but please not at the moment, I've just paid my fiver. Stepgar Posted 22 August, 2011 Share Posted 22 August, 2011 At the end of the day she was at work. I am sure in any other type of job that is common assault and gross misconduct. The reason she slapped him is not important. The fact she did it, is.

Huffton Posted 22 August, 2011 Share Posted 22 August, 2011 Have to agree with RobM. Anyone who doesn't know the full story (eg, anyone who doesn't read SWF) will just see a steward assaulting someone. A fine image for our club to portray. Perhaps the best course of action is for the video to be deleted from youtube?

Absolutely. Although I can't see any way she can continue as a steward, brother in law or not.

If either side of the police courdon had broken down, do honestly think the majority of Millwall fans would have continued to shout a few harsh words? No - these guys are nutters that go away to hunt for trouble, so what would have happened would be (a) a scattering of so-called hard chavs knocking down innocent kids and old folk to get away and (b) a brawl that would see many hurt and © Southampton FC with a big black cloud hung over it due to bad press. We don't need that stuff - it's outdated. Save the banter for inside the ground - leave the game and go about your business in a safe and lawful manner. To goad other fans outside is just asking for trouble.
