Leicester build up

Definitely not ! If we make the two key signings that people think we will make, we are almost certain to finish higher than 17th and possibly make the play offs ! I hope we do make the signings as we will need them in the winter and spring months !

What merits 16+ teams to almost certainly finish above us and who are they? Strange that the bookies have us as 2nd favourites to win the league. I don't think we will win the league obviously, but I think we will be fighting for the play-offs.

Its clear we're in for more signings.

I'm realistic...but why are lots of posters saying Leicester have really good players etc. WE have really good players and NO team will want to play Saints when they are on form...and we are! Sure, we will, at some point lose, but why, when all records are being broken and some of the play exquisite at times, should we fear anyone? Let them worry...I'm going to enjoy the ride and expect many more victories this season! It is possible to be optimistic and realistic- and at least the football is worth watching.

Reading this article it seems SGE changed his system on Sat from his usual 4-3-3 to play a "diamond" in midfield.

http://theseventytwo.com/football-league/championship/2011/08/22/leicester-city-leeds-united-nottingham-forest-west-ham-united/

IMO the "diamond" is a system that Nigel likes to play because Adam is so good a the top of the diamond, so he may well match up with sven on Sat.

As we played that system last year we know it has strengths and weaknesses in the wide areas and it is important that the full backs push on into the space.

Equally it could be an interesting tactically battle because sven will have had us watched and knows that :-

(1) Adam is so good at the tip of the diamond (IMO best in the league) and

(2) our way of playing the standard 4-4-2 allows the wide players to appear anywhere across the line i.e. Guly making runs down the inside left channel, so he is unlikely to play 4-4-2 and match our system.

Great post; it will be a fascinating tactical battle.

This. Yes Leicester have decent players, but I feel when we hit form we are better equipped as a TEAM and I feel confident going into every game at the moment, whether we Win, Draw or Lose I always think we will play our hearts out, and we shouldn't fear anyone, the pressure is on them, not us.

Just had a look on the Foxes forum lots of unhappy campers already calling for Sven to go they have a very expensive team that has not settled yet but no doubt they will be a threat this season when they hit form.

I think us not having a game this week will be a big help we looked tired 2nd half Saturday, we still have the momentum & confidence if we can play our game in the form we are in there is nobody to fear & I wont be surprised if we win again.

I hope they have a tough game in the carling cup & we can knick all 3 points on Saturday the way we are playing as a team you have to believe we will give them a tough game

It seems that we're better playing on the front foot, using plenty of width and movement, and we're better against teams that try to play football rather than dominate the midfield with physical strength.

I think we'll get the chance to do those things against Leicester, and we've been gelling as a footballing team (which takes time) for much longer than them.

I fancy us to win but for the first time in ages I feel confident that we have a manager who can make the right adjustments if things aren't working.

I've got used to us winning now, hell I expect to win home or way regardless of opposition. It's ridicolous but even a draw away from home is going to seem like a major come down right now (despite the fact that really it will be a good point)

The way the two sides have been playing I think we should win.

If/when we lose can we ban the first person to say 'see, told you we weren't good enough and needed new players'?

How ridiculous ! This is an open forum in which people can express opinions (within the rules of the board). To stop people speaking their minds and holding different opinions is stupid and would make for a very dull forum.

We will wonder why we ever worried about teams like Leicester in a years time when we're in the prem after one of the best runs ever seen, starting in December 2010.

Southampton FC unbeaten in 2011-2012. They'll write songs about us!

I can see Bury taking them to extra time...Think our game against Millwall was a very tired performance. Can't play brilliantly everygame so to grind out a 1-0 was great.

Hopefully with a week off we will be recharged and get right at them from the off.

One thing though, if we lose I wouldnt be gutted, its still early and looking at our early fixtures to start with 4 wins and 1 loss would of been great.

Obviously 5 wins would be better ;)

Would probably have taken a draw here at the start of the season. Now I'll be gutted if we don't win.

That's how I feel, but to come away with 4 wins and a draw from our first 5 is unbelievable especially with our previous starts over the years.

For me Saturday was vital, home game that would have really dissapointed us had we not got maximum points. Even if we suffer a defeat at Leicester, it will still represent a fantastic start to the season..........

Had a dream last night that we scored twice which put us top by 3 points after the Leicester game. Wet dream if that comes true. TBF I'd be more than happy with a point, despite me thinking that it's a very winnable game if we get at them early. Their fans are not happy and very likely to get at the players if/when they start to struggle.

I just can't wait for Saturday to arrive and to head on up there! Having a week off I think will definitely be advantageous to Saints but for some reason I'm feeling more nervous because we are unbeaten, not sure if anyone else is feeling the same? Perhaps it's because we have our 100% record to defend and a defeat would be such a kick in the teeth after constantly winning. At the start of the season we may have gone to Leicester not really expecting much - now we are.

Can't wait for the weekend to arrive now my tickets have arrived. First time I've been to Leicester's ground so where is the pub for fellow, 'TOP OF THE LEAGUE' Saints followers? Win, lose or draw this one, heads still held high as at least we've experienced joy at the start of a season for once!!! And as always I'm sure we'll give 110% and it'll be another cracking away game session!!!!!! Pubs?

So without even knowing who these 2 signings would be you think they will take u's from 17th to a play off spot? Give it a rest you really are tedious.

There's absolutely no rational reason or evidence to suggest we will finish as low as 17th.

I keep asking Dalek to place a bet with me - but he goes surprisingly quiet each time.

The markets have us at 98% to finish in the top 12, and that seems about right to me. We'd be about 99.8% to finish in the top 16.

I do think the odds on us winning the league (5/1) or beign promoted (2/1) are a bit short though.

Sporting Index has our finishing points spread at 77 - 79 (second). West Ham 1st 77.5 - 79.5 and Leicester 3rd 71 - 73.
