Will the police ever learn!

There will always be people in both sets of fans who want the trouble, but at least by locking the away fans in it gives those people who want to stay away the chance to get out. Daft decision.

your argument is to logical for Southampton police, i will not say Hampshire because you get locked in at the skates

What made it so ridiculous is that they didnt even bother to close the northam car park - that's usually the first thing they do and would have been enough to deal with a bit of handbags today. Questions will be raised why the club/OB can take precautions for Brighton and Bournemouth yet not Milwall.

Cant reply to you Dunce on the 'kicking off' thread because it has been closed. But if you are referring to me as a 'stupid father' then you are very wrong my friend. I took my lad through the north car park, as I always do, unless advised otherwise which today I wasn't. I assumed, wrongly, that the police may have everything under control given the trouble that ocurred earlier in the game but clearly this wasn't the case. You and Tw*tish may think it's funny to see a 9 year old boy crying his eyes out but I don't. If you want to meet for a drink I am in the waterfront before and after every game

I never said it was funny.

I was making the point that it wasn't the best idea to exit that way especially given the indication of the prospect of trouble given by scenes in the ground. Millwall have a reputation so surely it must have dawned on you that there could be a flashpoint where supporters converge so like it or not you made a bad call today and i'm sure you'd be more proactive in your judgement in the future.

Junk journalism ready to go by the Echo.

Seeing as the previous thread got hijacked, I'm still intrigued to know what exactly you found JUVENILE about my initial post -

"reports on Solent about trouble outside the ground. Didn't they have that barrier thing out like the Leeds game - surely Millwall at home, no divider and letting everybody out at the same time is madness from the police ... yet again".

The Echo's ready to go journalism was made so much easier by the completely illogical action of the police. They have no excuses!! And by that I'm not condoning the idiots who tried to cause trouble - it was just made easier for them on both sides.

No doubt there will be thousands of police hours wasted on video survelience and some dawn knocks - to justify it - but it could have all been avoided. It's as simple as that!!

The police really are thick as f*ck, after what happened during the first half anyone with half a brain could see they should have been held back for half an hour.

It's not hard to see how the London riots kicked off with dumb ***ts like that supposedly in charge of law and order.

I have to agree with Dune. I left 5 mins early. Didn't want to but I wanted to get my boys over the bridge and out of the way before the morons were let out. I shouldn't have to leave early over safety concerns for me and my kids, it was a bad bad call by the club and/or the police. Hopefully some serious questions will be asked of whoever is in charge of football policing.

You wonder if the hants police were hoping for trouble after missing out on the riots a few weeks back ..... They didn't want to miss out on the arrest rate!!

The sad thing is youre not wrong. They are ruled by arrest rates

These days, not real police work.

Seems the police wanted it to kick off to justify the amount of them there. They were pathetic.

This is very likely to be true sadly. Down here in the South West they have been out in seemingly much larger numbers in the major towns recently desperate for it to kick off. I grew up respecting the cops like majority of the public but frankly I thought I'd never see the day where the police completely lost the respect of the public but that's what a combination of the riots, the phone hacking corruption and alleged bribes from the press to the Met and finally contrived incidents like today have done. I walk the opposite way as I park the other side of the Itchen Bridge but it was stunningly obvious during the game that Millwall were going to kick off afterwards and one can only assume that the cops have facilitated a confrontation to ringfence their resources from cuts.

Yep. Just stood off and watched. Saw a few raise their batons but that was it. From where they were stood it would have been easy to arrest 20 or so blokes for assault on the spot.

Even when the Millwall fans got through the cordon at the bottom of the bridge they did nothing to stop them and even let a few walk up the ramp when it was obvious who they should have held back.

I hope none of our law-abiding fans got caught up in it, I'd have been petrified, like the vast majority of fans I go to football matches to watch the game only and have never had any time for violence whatsoever. The club should know better but I'm really cross with the police, how can they go to the lengths (which were justified as it turns out) they did for the Pompey Cup game and yet - allegedly if posters on here that saw the trouble are correct - not take appropriate steps at full time, the first of which should have been to keep Millwall in?
