ericofarabia Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 One of the Red Arrows has crashed just outside Bomo airport after performing between the piers earlier. Fingers crossed the pilot ejected safely and nobody hurt on the ground.

Simples Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 Early reports say it's Red 4. If true, that pilot went to Southampton Uni. Hope all is ok and pilot and anyone on the ground are safe.

Jamie The Saint Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 A friend of wife said they had to pull him out of the river, but said it looked as if he was dead, seems like he stayed in the aircraft to keep it away from the houses.
Lighthouse Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 Confirmed on BBC the pilot (Flt Lt Jon Egging, 33) was killed in the crash. R.I.P. Very sad. I've loved the Red Arrows for as long as I can remember.

John Boy Saint Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 Sounds like he died a hero getting the plane to hit the field rather than the houses. Without any doubt. The Red Arrows are the best of the best, thankfully losing one is a rarity, when it happens it touches most of us. They flew over our house last weekend: faces were instantly stuck to the windows in excitement to see them.
