deadpanmatt Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 Anyone know where I can park for free near-ish to the ground? I have to drive down on my own tomorrow and I'm trying to keep the costs down. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
SuperMikey Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 There's a city car park just up from the Joshua Tree pub by the Northam Estate, I think it costs a couple of quid.

terrypward Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 If you can be bothered with the walk and are from out that way, park the other side of the itchen bridge... takes 10/15 mins to walk, but you don't get stuck in any traffic (parking by the ground normally means queueing for half an hour when I try it). dune Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 I think you can still park off the Avenue near the common for free. I have done this several times in the past but it's a bit of a walk. I usually use Charlotte place which unfortunately charges.

bowers-sfc Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 If your not in a rush to get away, the industrial estate next to the gas works. have to be early to get a space. takes about 20 mins getting out.
Sad Sam Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 Two hours free parking in Oakbank Road car park (about 10 - 15 min walk) Lots of people park on the roads in Woolston and walk over the bridge.

I think you would need more than 2 hours. 15min walk x 2, 120 mins for game. Umm, might be cutting it too fine.
John Boy Saint Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 Always like this thread subject when it pops up, as some helpful souls who have found free parking through their own research, especially in spots where 5 minutes behind schedule sees them lucky to be parked, freely invite that space to be occupied by passing on it's location. Then that person tells someone else & before you know it departue time from home has to be 15 minutes earlier to ensure getting parked in your usual spot. Getting one over the parking Stasi of Southampton City council is good sport but advertising where next to put a parking piggy bank defeats the object. Bit of a selfish attitude I know, but get into Southampton early and have a look about like most folks have done for themselves. If you have to pay to park close to the ground I always found Townhouse Quay under the Itchen bridge to be about the cheapest metered parking. I always park on Cemetery Rd, just off the Avenue, below the Cowherds. It's free at weekends and there are usually plenty of spaces. About a 20-25 mum walk from SMS but virtually no traffic by time you get back to your car.
Saint2Hotty Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 The carpark in Woolston by the High street is free for first 5 hours so this is normall a good bet, then its just a walk over the Bridge and you are there

I'm that c/nt who on joining the Avenue (exiting Southampton) drives in the right hand lane, overtaking all those queuing in the left lane, who then indicates to join the left lane and some mug lets in.
