It's probably been done before, but what 5 tracks (not albums) and 1 book would you take? You get the Bible and the complete works of Shakespeare as standard. I would choose:

Nick Drake - Cello Song

Radiohead - High and Dry

[video=youtube;GKkr29EGc-Y]

Otis Redding - Dock of the Bay

Blur - This Is A Low

The Divine Comedy - A Lady of a Certain Age

As for the book, I would probably choose Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh. I've read it countless times, but I never grow tired of it. Fantastic book.

Greatest song of all time. The opening riff is, and always will be, my ringtone.

B*llocks to it, on reflection I can't leave it out and have edited mine.

You are omitting the 'luxury' item - for which I would take the same 'item' my daughter said when she was asked the same question - Ray Mears, he could then build a canoe and get us both off the damned island.

As for 5 tracks

"Let Down" by Radiohead - a mesmeric tune

A recording of Pachelbel's Canon

"Away in a Manger" recorded by Besses o'the Barn brass band with my daughter playing solo

"Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding

"Epiphany" by Staind

For the book "The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy"

Great song.

Absolutely, but another Bragg song would keep me company during those long days alone on the island.

1. Saturday Boy - Billy Bragg

2. Monkey Gone to Heaven - Pixies

3. Two Headed Boy - Neutral Milk Hotel

4. Switching Off - Elbow

5. The Blowers Daughter - Damien Rice

Book - Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks

Luxury - iPhone with data contract and Spotify, Amazon Kindle app and Saints Player subscription!

That's a tough exercise and I'm obviously in a contemplative mood. if I wrote this in half an hour after my first cup of coffee it'd change dramatically.
