Okay just relaying a bit of information.

Firstly he had offers from other clubs, I believe Anderlecht were after him and AZ in Holland. But he chose Southampton because of how he impressed he was with the city and the nice atmosphere inside it. He also loved the stadium.

He's waiting for his girlfriend to come and live here in six months because she's finishing her degree/college. So lets get behind him, and from all accounts from what I've heard he is a proper sound guy. Although he's prone to swearing alot in frustration.

Just a bit of useless information for everyone. :)

He's a good lad, generally seems really laid back which has made it easy for him to slot in to our group.

Hope we see a bit more of him on the pitch because he's got top ability.

I'd imagine wages played a big factor, they almost always do.

I saw him drinking a tea and reading the Sunday paper in ocean village a couple of Sunday's ago (during the day). He looked pretty lonely. Was gonna go say hi and welcome to Southampton but he seemed pretty interested inthe paper!

A few Dutch friends on holiday felt it was a bit of coup us getting him. They said there was a big feature on him on Dutch TV partly because Ajax were looking at him, but Ajax were not certain about taking him as despite him being very fast and technical, having the lungs of a horse allowing him to defend then attack and vice versa very quickly, simply because he was not greedy enough in front of goal: but looking to see who was in a better scoring position to score from.

From the brief glimpses of him so far the reports are not too wide of the mark.

have you been to Holland - its not all like Amsterdam!

Rotterdam makes Southampton look beautiful - and Eindhoven makes it look like a city of culture!

I've not seen Saints play this season but I'm going on Saturday. Really looking forward to seeing him play but I'm a bit concerned with the amount of game time he's getting. I know Guly is playing well but De Ridder seems to only be getting 20 mins at the most in league games. Would really like to see more of him.

I'd just be happy if De Ridder got a start at home on the right, instead of playing up front for 15 minutes late on. But I'm not suggesting he starts in front of Guly at the moment, what with everything going so well and all...

Or News of the World with tidbits of information like those!

I'm also looking forward to seeing De Ridder in proper action, but as has been said he may have to wait his turn. With Guly and De Ridder on the right, and Fox, Holmes and Dickson on the left and Lallana able to play on both flanks, I retract my earlier "we need a winger" statement. With Puncheon and Oxo leaving, I figured we needed one, but with Fox's signing and his reputation for being an attacking wing back,we really don't need another.

From what I've seen of him he looks a bit lightweight. I think NA is trying to let him settle in gradually which is the right approach. Remember Guly took a while to adjust last season. De Ridder will come good but he shouldn't be pushed into the team and expected to be a world beater.

Guly has not really earnt a starting place IMO and yet De Ridder has looked very sharp, so I reckon he deserves a start at home this Saturday.

Guly was never in my starting 11, but based on the fact he has been outstanding on the right, we've been winning everytime he comes off, i am not sure how you come up with that

I think NA is just trying to ease him in slowly, the English game is normally a bit of a culture shock for foreign imports. I suggest it may be a couple of months for him to become acclimatized & up to speed with the bustle & pace of the game over here. He will probably be used in the Carling cup & eased into the league gradually. But I think he will eventually grab his place & make it his.

It's true we've been winning - I can't disagree with that. However, I've watched him and he is not performing at the same level as his teammates and not at a level that I believe he is actually capable of. We have substitute players all over the team that are supposed to place pressure on teammates to raised standards. If Guly is getting picked whatever his performance that system will soon break-down.

Thats my take on it.

Agree with this,

The 1st team is settled and winning and is being pushed hard by the players not getting into the 1st team. De ridder looks good and will get his chance but Adkins is blending him in gently.

The same will happen to the new number 5 who ever that ends up being. Leicester on paper look good but chucking everyone in and expecting them to do well doesn't work out very often. I am much happier with the way we seem to be doing things.

Whilst we're playing this well and in this kind of form, it would be madness to change the team unless forced to by injury. Don't want to upset the balance.

He'll get his chance but he'll have to wait for now, no matter how good he is.

It's not unlike the ild Anfield Bootroom way.

We'll sign you now but you're going to be in the reserves / on the bench for the first 6 months. Learn the way we play, get used to the culture. A settled side with quality pushing to get in and eventually given it's chance. Difficult to argue with
