saintoaks Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 I havnt seen it anywhere on the forum, so forgive me if it is, but Ipswich's first goal should never been given, Chopra hit the stantion just before Andrews scored....Bizarre !!!
Genk Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Just watched it again and you have a point! It looks like it did!
The Kraken Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Just watched it again and you have a point! It looks like it did! Aside from the fact that the goal doesn't actually have any stantions, you might be right.
Junior Mullet Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 cheating buggers. if we lose out on a record breaking number of goals scored by one this year I will be most upset.
saintoaks Posted 18 August, 2011 Author Posted 18 August, 2011 What on earth are you talking about? Just watched the highlights on saints player and when chopra hits his shot before Andrews scored, the ball hits the back of the goal stantion...that will be on a question of sport one day !!
shurlock Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Yeah the saw highlights on saints player- clearly hit the middle of the crossbar. No idea what the commentator was on.
The Kraken Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Just watched the highlights on saints player and when chopra hits his shot before Andrews scored, the ball hits the back of the goal stantion...that will be on a question of sport one day !! Can you point out where the stantions are please? Or anything other than the post/bar that might cause the ball to rebound in the way it did.
Albie79 Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Yea, Saints Player highlights clearly show it hitting the centre of the crossbar! OP's eyes fooled by the angle of the BBC highlights?
saintoaks Posted 18 August, 2011 Author Posted 18 August, 2011 The nationwide highlights on saints player has the commentator saying the goal should not of been given as the ball hit the green what ever you want to call it holding up the goal...watch it and see.
Um Bongo Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Can you point out where the stantions are please? Or anything other than the post/bar that might cause the ball to rebound in the way it did. Look to the left of the goal, you'll see a green post. There is also one the other side. They are the Stantions. HTH.
Thedelldays Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 watch 'a night on the town' on saintsplayer, you see it go in
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Just watched the highlights on saints player and when chopra hits his shot before Andrews scored, the ball hits the back of the goal stantion...that will be on a question of sport one day !! I was there mate...it cannoned straight off the bar!
raucebysaint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Watched it again on BBC sport website and ball definately hits the Green Post behind the goal before coming back into play.. It happens so fast that none of our players even question it. Oh well we won !!
The Kraken Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Look to the left of the goal, you'll see a green post. There is also one the other side. They are the Stantions. HTH. So you're suggesting the ball hit the external stantions? My apologies, that's even more ridiculous.
Thedelldays Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 So you're suggesting the ball hit the external stantions? My apologies, that's even more ridiculous. when the ball goes no where near that far back
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 As if the players wouldn't have noticed! We were sat the other side to the camera angle and it definitely hit the bar, right in the middle of the goal.
Um Bongo Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 So you're suggesting the ball hit the external stantions? My apologies, that's even more ridiculous. No, I'm not suggesting it went out. Saints player shows it clear. It hit the bar. Smack bang in the middle.
The Kraken Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 when the ball goes no where near that far back And while the crossbar and whole netting shook from the impact of the ball.
Lets B Avenue Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Dan Harding would have done his fecking nut, if that had happened. I, too, was there and saw it hit the bar. Ive also paused the BBC clip and it hits the bar about 4-5 ft from the right hand post.
saintjay77 Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 can someone not do a print screen capture of either moment when the ball hit the green thingy or the cross bar?
RedFear Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 you can see here it went nowhere near the stanchion
Lets B Avenue Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Not to be a ****, but it's "stanchion". Perhaps the OP meant it hit a STATION.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Watched it again on BBC sport website and ball definately hits the Green Post behind the goal before coming back into play.. It happens so fast that none of our players even question it. Oh well we won !! Are you watching the correct highlights?
Gemmel Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 (edited) LOL.... I was there and never thought it was anything else than the crossbar, but the ones slamming the OP, might want to be a little less adamant... he has a valid point. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14565065.stm Edited 18 August, 2011 by Gemmel
Kingsland Red Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 I remember once against Leeds at the Dell we (Mark Hughes?) scored a 'goal' that stretched the net and rebounded into play off the advertisement hoarding behind the net and came straight out. No one on the pitch appealed. We were 0-2 at the time, and did not have an internet forum.
Saint Garrett Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 (edited) Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Really not sure now. I thought it clearly hit the bar...but the more i look at it the more it looks like it hits the green post. Surely atleast one player would have mentioned it? In the second picture the ball seems to be behind the goal as it disappears Edited 18 August, 2011 by Saint Garrett
LGTL Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 I'm still sure it hit the bar, having looked at it loads. Odd one though.
Lets B Avenue Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 LOL.... I was there and never thought it was anything else than the crossbar, but the ones slamming the OP, might want to be a little less adamant http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14565065.stm Sorry, Gemmel. He is still 100% wrong
Pilchards Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 (edited) Have a look at the 2nd goal they got, when it finally made its way though to the goal line, Harding sliced it and the ball clearly hits the back of Davis head and then the crossbar before it came out again. It's shocking how much we are missing now with these fast new footballs. Just noticed that after seeing the highlights he has a point, it does not hit the post. Edited 18 August, 2011 by Pilchards
Evil Monkey Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 It looks to me like it could have hit either. But as someone else has said...surely Harding et all would have noticed and hit the f*cking roof!
skintsaint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 ah this thread...classic reminds me of this piece..
Alain Perrin Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 The poster is correct. If you watch the BBC highlights here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14565065.stm Then at 1m 07s, the ball from Chopra's shot clearly goes past the post, cannons off the stanchion and comes back into play.

Saint Garrett Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 FFS, it hit the bar. It's obvious. It's clearly not obvious - or we wouldn't be having the debate...
sussexsaint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 It really doesn't, its the angle of the camera thats creating an optical illiusion the ball goes to the right of the upright and hits the middle/left of the bar, the stanchion is miles behind the line
The Kraken Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 I must be watching a different highlights package to others above. It clearly comes back off the bar. The bar (and upper netting) visibly shake, this just wouldn't happen if it hit the green post. Also, watch Dan Harding's position all the way throughout. He is looking at the ball the whole way. You don't think he'd notice and appeal if the ball hadn't travelled an extra 6 yards out, and 6 yards back into play?
LGTL Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 It clearly comes off the bar IMO, i've watched it 100 times and was also there on the day. As said above, I must be watching a different highlights package.
MacFad2207 Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 The BBC highlights do look very much like it goes out of play, watched it a few times now.
The Kraken Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 To hit the green post from the angle chopra shoots from, the ball would have to go through the goal. Unless he can bend it like Beckham.
JustMike Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 The BBC highlights do look very much like it goes out of play, watched it a few times now. no it doesnt, can clearly see it hit the bar, it even shakes! (unless that's just my eyes)
Griffo Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 I was at the game and it quite clearly hit the crossbar.
scott_saints Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 1- People at the game saw it hit the bar 2- The players saw it hit the bar, otherwise the would have complained 3- All the videos show that it hit the bar 4- It hit the bar.
Verbal Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 The reason it conceivably looks like it hits the stantion from the main camera angle is because of motion-blur. Freeze-frame the action and the ball is two or three ghost images. It's just an optical illusion created by recording at 50 fields per sec at 1/100th. High-speed (slo-mo) cameras would have shown it hitting the bar.
skintsaint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 the stupid black/white video on saintsplayer on 2min 45secs clearly shows it hitting the bar from an angle on the other side of the pitch.
.comsaint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 1- People at the game saw it hit the bar 2- The players saw it hit the bar, otherwise the would have complained 3- All the videos show that it hit the bar 4- It hit the bar. Ah, but did it hit the bar?
