I always loved the Mike Channon one from the 1976 cup Final. Channons Cannons Fire Saints. Always stuck in my mind.

"Jesus Saves - but Channon nets the rebounds" was another around in the '76 cup run.

Someone draped a "PFC RIP" one over the fences away at Blackburn for the tele (Friday night live on BBC - cracking trip!) just after we'd done the bluefew at fartton in '84. I liked that one.

I remember there being one' date=' at the entrance to the City, when we were playing Pompey, saying: "Dear Skates, please leave your caravans at the park & ride" (or something similar) which made me chuckle.[/quote']

I did that one with some help from a mate :-)

An old mate of mine nicked a fookin massive Union Jack off some ship in the docks some 30 years back. He stripped off, and it was wrapped around his legs, arms and body, got dressed over it as best he could to get out with his prize. Mission accomplished. It turned up at about 2 away games with 'SOUTHAMPTON FC' emblazoned across it and then was never seen again as the thing was a massive ball's-ache carting around. - probably abandoned in some northern boozer!

A mate of mine nicked th old Ensign that flew off the back of the Ark Royal! That thing was mahoosive!

It must have been 7 feet high by 17 feet wide!

I can remember another one that Friday night and it just said "Hello Pompey" above a huge one fingered salute.

Someone I know (who still works in the docks so I'll spare him his name) lifted a huge American flag from a boat.

The Stars were promptly cut off leaving a nice red and white section that we added "Southampton FC, Pride of the South" in time for the 84 Qtr final at Hillsborough.

Don't remember what happened to it after that game.

Yep, that was a favourite - and probably will be again.

I also liked "Yellow and Blue versus Manchester who?" in '76.

In 1979 I had:

"Lawrie's Lumberjacks Will Cut Down Clough's Forest"

Sadly, we didn't!!!!! (bloody Gary Birtles)

That was great, do you have a photo?

There was a photo at the time and it was on the UI message board. Rut, who sometimes frequents this board, took the picture. I'll ask him if he still has a copy

What I really hate is a flag that I've helped pay for but never seen in the ******* flesh!

PS: When exactly is the Markus flag going to be displayed at a league home game?

I take it no-one knows the answer this then? Amazing.

Best one I've seen for years is the Chelsea one that says "Where were we when we were sh*t? Usually your town, your pub and your end"

I take back the gay comment... Thats class.
