Alain Perrin Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Highlights of last nights game are posted on SaintsPlayer, yet they've put background music on it. Plus they insist on some arty editing that doesn't work for football in my opinion. It is Saints doing it because the IpswichPlayer highlights are much better (not least because you can hear grown men cry!) Come on Saints, make the highlights worthy of the quality of the play. ... Or am I getting old?
niceandfriendly Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 It depends, in what year were you born? Nah only kidding, yes for some reason the guys who run SaintsPlayer have an annoying habit of producing these silly highlight clips with annoying music and bizarre editing. Those in charge have probably got a Media Studies degree from somewhere like Soton Solent or Thames Valley and they're "showing it off". They did it a few times last season, but haven't seen the Ipswich one yet. Will check it out now.
Golden Balls Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 I thought the price went up this year as the standard was better and it would be 'near HD quality'? If anything, it's got much worse
niceandfriendly Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Having seen the video, that's actually pretty good. I was expecting one of those ones where the editing is so random you can't actually see what's going one. One minute you're looking at Lallana with the ball then from another angle you can only see his feet, then you can only see Kelvins midriff for a second or two, then a quick shot of Hardings ear-lobe and then for a few split seconds you see some football being played. All of this being played to some sort of funky house beat. The Ipswich video is decent though.
Saints foreva Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 The away highlights are the reason why I tend to avoid Saints Player. I sign up for a month or so every so often to see if things have improved but they don't. I was really looking forward to some amazing footage from Brighton and Plymouth away games last season but both were edited with crap music/effects, why not just do extended highlights (with Solent commentary) in a similar way to how they do the home highlights? The standard Football League highlights are similar to the ones Sky Sports/BBC use, only difference I can remember is The Football League one's have replays and an annoying commentator. Ohio Saint Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 It wasn't as bad as some they've had lately. On the plus side, I liked that they included some commentary from the Ipswich commentators crying into their beer.

Yeah, the Brighton and Plymouth ones from last season were particularly bad. Colchester too IIRC. However, with the Saints Player log in you've got access to every other league clubs 'Player' so there are often more highlights to view there. Barnsley for example have the full 90 minutes of our 1-0 win up, and Ipswich have 10 minutes of normal highlights available. So it's still worth getting Saints Player even if sometimes the highlights are a bit weird - which, I have to say, are not this time.
S-Clarke Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 I thought they were a great set of highlights, captured everything. Loved the 2 different commentary perspectives too.
SamKimish Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 The effects on the video are absolutely **** and if this is meant to be HD then I'm going to starting listing some of my old VHS as Blu-Ray on eBay. Still worth it to see Harding get taken out by the ref after our first goal though ...
sussexsaint Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 We are the south coast Brazil. Love it. Bizzare highlights though, would prefer to see a bit of the lovely pass and move stuff and less of people waving
Pahars_Legend Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Think the artistic highlights with backing music better suit the big screens of the stadium. Ipswich player has some regular highlights but I don't think thats ours are that bad at all.
saintmatt Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 One of my pet hates re match highlights is reduced crowd volume and pre-recorded commentary. The DVDs I've bought from the Saints store are guilty of both; the BBC (and many other media outlets) are largely only guilty of the former - but why do it!? Should be all about hearing the roar as a goal goes in!
