Thedelldays Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 good stuff, provides good competition.....I reckon dickson wont be a saint be the end of the january transfer window at the latest..
COMEONYOUREDS Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Yep looks like Dickson doesn't have a seat on Nige's bus, expect him to be sold or loaned out by the end of the month
aintforever Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Good stuff, what the betting these new contracts have a hefty promotion bonus included. Makes sense - give the players a stake in the clubs future and they will work their asses off for the team. I like the way Cortese does this - the complete opposite of Lowe who used to wait until their existing contract was almost up just to save a few quid.
saintjay77 Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 I think Fish is activly looking for a new club but it wouldnt surprise me if Dickson is looking too. I would of thought Fox will become the starter so Harding will be the one pushing him along. Doubt Dickson will be happy that far behind the 1st team for that long. Strange that Harding only agreed an extention early summer and already has extended it though. Work of agents pushing for their players to keep up with other players in the squad or something the club has pushed through? If Morgan cant get a 1st team starting position I doubt he will be looking to sign a new contract though. But how is he going to get in ahead of Cork and Captian Hamond?

I believe is contract was only extended in the summer only because he'd played enough games to trigger another year in his contract.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Dickson is not even fit to clean fox's boots!! Kick him out of the club NOW IMHO
Golden Balls Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Dickson is not even fit to clean fox's boots!! Kick him out of the club NOW IMHO Bit harsh. He's not that bad, just not what we're looking for. Did really well last season when called upon IMO
Splurty Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Yes very harsh ,Dickson is a good player and has not let us down ,I prefer him over Harding but in nc and na I fully trust .)
St Chalet Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Back to the topic of Harding, great bit of news. One of mosy consistant performers.
S-Clarke Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Can't complain about this. Mr Consistent. Love how we're tying down all the team, it shows great financial strength.
DT Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Bit harsh. He's not that bad, just not what we're looking for. Did really well last season when called upon IMO I thought he was really, really poor, whenever I saw him. No composure, very little in the way of positional sense, questionable distribution skills, and not very quick. Apart from that, he was brilliant.
SuperMikey Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 He's a good, steady Championship left-back. Good to see that he's had his contract extended, even if he won't be starting every week, because he's a good role model for young players coming through. I expect Dickson and Mills will be on their way, considering Seaborne can play LB too.
doddisalegend Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Good news, big fan of Dan Harding I reckon he deserves it. Dickson has never been good enough to replace Harding IMO.
doddisalegend Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 I bet the SMS ball boys are over joyed three more years of abuse......
teamsaint Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Bit harsh. He's not that bad, just not what we're looking for. Did really well last season when called upon IMO absolutely. Dickson came here as a potential first teamer, and sat out most of the season because the team were performing so well. When we really needed him he came in and did a fantastic job, including a vital assist at orient, and a promotion clincher at plymouth. Just the sort of contribution that keeps a promotion drive going.
holepuncture Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 I bet the SMS ball boys are over joyed three more years of abuse...... Absolutely! If for anything else, keeping the ball boys on their toes is the key asset that Dan brings to the squad. That and wearing his garters like a ****ing hero!
Andy_Porter Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Strange one. Not really... He's a far more important player than he's given credit for.
benjii Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 I thought he was really, really poor, whenever I saw him. No composure, very little in the way of positional sense, questionable distribution skills, and not very quick. Apart from that, he was brilliant. Clueless opinion.
Smirking_Saint Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Good for him to be on board, as much as I would say he is one of our weaker players it says more about the strength of the team rather than his ability which is a fantastic position to be in. I like Dickson, but can't see him being around much longer, I always liked the look of Dickson and TBH thought he was a better all round left back than Harding, who, if watched on a regular occasion gets his positioning wrong too often, on the other hand he is strong in the tackle, has a decent cross and is generally a fully committed and passionate player. All in all, great news, and considering the amount of players willing to stay here I can't see St Marys being the concentration camp so many rumours suggested. A massive well done to Adkins aswell who seems to have galvanised such a great (and physically fit) team spirit.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Back to the topic of Harding, great bit of news. One of most consistent performers. This.
Chez Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 I thought he was really, really poor, whenever I saw him. No composure, very little in the way of positional sense, questionable distribution skills, and not very quick. Apart from that, he was brilliant. you're right about him being not very quick, but I don't agree with his positional sense being awry, I'd be interested to know why you think that. I think he has decent composure and he is a fantastic crosser of a ball. I thought he had a few excellent games last season and many very good games too. I don't recall a bad game really. Harding has been excellent for us over the two years. He bullies wingers like no fullback I have ever seen at SMS.
astrasri Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 I bet the SMS ball boys are over joyed three more years of abuse...... As we are not playing the multi-ball system this year the pressure is off them anyway
Chez Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 As we are not playing the multi-ball system this year the pressure is off them anyway one ball, more pressure
Smirking_Saint Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 you're right about him being not very quick, but I don't agree with his positional sense being awry, I'd be interested to know why you think that. Harding has been excellent for us over the two years. He bullies wingers like no fullback I have ever seen at SMS. When I watch him (I go to the majority I can make but I am not a STH due to football/work, go to a fair few away) he seems to allow too many players to get inside him and attack him on his right, this not only puts him under pressure but also allows the offending player to attack the fullback to his left, which unfortunately is more often one of our young full backs in Martin or Seaborne. Sometimes that is because he gets drawn out to the touchline too much, probably linked with the fact that he likes to engage the winger and attack them. Also sometimes when balls come in from the left wing (attacking team) he makes mistakes in not watching his man and not being in the correct positions. That said, his all round game is consistantly very good, and he is full of passion and committment which I love to see, the fact that we now have 3 very good LB to choose from is fantastic. As for dominating, I agree, when he is on top he is all over his winger, good challenges and dominating his position, in fact, even when he is not on top he never seems to struggle too much, and always leaves his mark.

Danish Saint Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Good move! Happy to have Harding on the bus.
dubai_phil Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 Good, Morgan next please http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?31861-Schniederlin-signs-new-contract Meanwhile, I still expect that Dickson will have a role to play this season. We have Harding Fox & Dickson fighting for 1 LB spot but ALSO fighting as cover for Lallana, who while not injury "prone" has missed a fair few games these past seasons.
dubai_phil Posted 17 August, 2011 Posted 17 August, 2011 I still want it on the OS Phil. Yarp, me too, if anything to like stuff I'm trying to do contracts they're probably arguing over some obscure translation with French Lawyers... Something that is never easy
sammysaint Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Harding is a good player but to be honest his pace and passion are his key points but im finding it strange that hes signed for 3 years !! even after this great start i don't expect promotion this season but i do expect it next season and i cant see him being a prem player in 3 years time, he would be a ok back up but i would still perfer someone better as a back up if we made it back to the big time within 2 seasons.
Ian the Red Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Good to tie him down although I do think Fox will be the no1 choice at LB. DH has always given 100%, yes he has been caught out of position a few times but you can not fault his committment to the cause. Good squad signing.
hutch Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 The best time (for the club) for a player to move on is when he has at least 1, and preferably more, years left to run on his contract. If he signs for 3 and stays for 3, he goes for free.
del boy Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 It was interesting to see Dan being tried in midfield pre-season (which didn't seem to work) Its a surprise to me, but as someone else said "in Nige we trust" - he seems to be getting everything right and dare I say it, possibly knows more about footy than anyone on here
Golden Balls Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 I thought he was really, really poor, whenever I saw him. No composure, very little in the way of positional sense, questionable distribution skills, and not very quick. Apart from that, he was brilliant. I thought he always did well. The only game I recall him not having a good game is when he came on against Man Utd in CM. The best I saw him play was against Blackpool in the FA Cup. He looked so composed, his distribution was brilliant and he showed a lot of strength and power. I actually think he is a better LM than LB. Can see him being used as cover for Lallana
Under Weststand Posted 18 August, 2011 Posted 18 August, 2011 Another positive signal that we have a good bunch here who all want to be involved in what is going on at SMS.
