Lallana's value

Ok, so suppose Man Utd come in with a £17 million pound bid (same amount they paid for Ashley Young) tomorrow for Lallana, whilst he's very much our best player, wouldn't it be bonkers to turn that kind of money down??

I don't think we would have a hope in hell of promotion without Lallana. Promotion is worth far more than £17m

It's not like we NEED the money. Long term, it would be bonkers to sell him at any price

This whole thread makes me nervous. It's like waving a little flag saying 'over here, over here'.

LOL...... you are right, I imagine every premiership manager has dropped their scouting system and football network, in favour of scouring football forums, to see what fans think of their own players.

Ah well it was nice to have him whilst it lasted.

Scouts don't. Newspapers do. We don't want him getting too much attention from the nationals

I think scoring 2 goals and having a hand in the other 3 during a championship game just might have more to do with getting attention from the national press, if I'm honest.

I am worried that his current form will encourage a bid from a good prem club.

As with Alex it is not so much what the club can do to encourage a pltr to stay these deals offer financial security for life. You never know what injuries are round the corner and while there is the PFA insurance I believe that the compensation is based on the contract terms when you can no longer play any more and the players age.

Nope, you're absolutely right, there are plenty of players in this league that'll be on crazy wages. Half the West Ham team is of course a good example.

Nolan is a proven Premiership player, and West Ham are a club laden with debt. Gold and Sullivan look as though they're chucking money at it this season and gambling on returning to the Premiership at the first attempt. They should do, but if they don't, they're potentially screwed (even with taking parachute payments into account).

Like we did with the Wilde bunch, lets hope they go the same way as we did :)

I don't think he will be tempted to leave this current season, I think he will see what happens and how far we have come before deciding if an offer becomes available next summer as he will still have a lengthy contract and would be worth millions still. Not all players are greedy.

This. It's all very well banking loadsa money but it's not like Champ Man/Football Manager; you can't just go out and buy a top class player that'll guarantee to work and fit in, it's much harder. No good having in excess of £30m in the bank without having a genuine replacement identified and a guarantee they'd join.
