What can you say about that?

We were quite simply different class and even when they pulled the goals back there was always the feeling we'd step up a gear and do the necessary..and we did.

Lallana and Cork were outstanding..Ricky's passing, shielding and weight of pass superb..Deano strong and driving, Connolly's touch, control and vision just a cclass above. despite the shaky two goal phase where we allowed them to run too freely in my opinion the defence always looked very capable...Kelvin had a great game..Guly hit some perfect passes...it's difficult to find fault anywhere really so I'm not going to try.

DonMt write it down to Ipswich being poor either...can you really believe we've only played poor teams? We terrified them..they played as well as they were allowed or dared.

Great night..sorry for errors..done on my little phone keyboard!

Just back at the hotel. I've done all 3 games this season and its getting better and better. Quite simply stunning. The first half was perfection at times. Lallana is on another level, but christ what a signing Cork has been. We have a completely dominant midfield. Special mentions to Lambert and Connolly who were magnificent. What a team, what a manager, what a night. Roll on Saturday, everyone should do there best to get down there because this team deserve it. Stunning.

If Barcelona had done that schbeiderlin pass, the media would be flapping all over it. Lapland also had another chance cleared off the line. We could have had seven.

I heard the quote this morning that we looked like Real madrid at times!! Am I right to be upset that they did not say Barcelona?

What a trip what a game Saints were stunning the best I have seen us play the 1 touch passing & running off the ball all our goals were top top quality we looked hungry worked for each other Guly chassing back the length of the pitch to help out fantastic team performance.

Lallana is God what a player so skillfull should of had 4 but I will let him off as he had a hand in all the goals what a player

Cork fantastic signing good on the ball loads of energy & running he must have nicked the ball in the midfield dozens of times great passing & movement magnificent 1st half

Lambert my MOM won everything held the ball up 2 great goals set up the 5th with a sublime pass fot Lallana the Ipswich defenders just could not get near him immense looking fit & sharp

Connolly so clever great touch & awareness always finds space working very well with Lambo chased everything class act

we played Ipswich who are a good side & will do well this season of the park for all but 20 mins even when they got back into the game we went straight on the attack from the restart & Lallana was so unlucky having rounded the keeper had the ball hacked of the line.

Very proud of our team fantastic performance

I saw that on the telly last night, piece of absolute class. Then again, so was the move for the second goal, Gulys skill for the third and a few other moments as well by the sound of the radio!

Couple of things to add to what has already been said. I think the introduction of Fox and Schneiderlin was the reason why we took a grip of the game and went on to win. I also think that at 2-3 Ipswich got tired and our superior fitness told.

Did anyone see the warm up. I honestly have never seen anything like that. It was what 18 mats and an aerobic, pilates warm up. Forte was doing beeb tests or something.

Lallana and Connolly are exceptional. Although as Connolly seemed to tire he gave away the ball twice which lead to the 2 goals. You could see him bury his head each time, but what a goal for the third that was eye of the needle.

I was quite impressed with fox although he does seem to have quite short legs in comparison to his body. seems a hard man and fitted in well to the organisation.

The man that made everything tick and who seem to have incredible stamina, will and desire was Jack Cork. I just can't praise him enough. He gave everything and was unbelievable. He seemed to enjoy playing against Bowyer who he really made look old.

And what about Lambert. I don't think I've ever seen him play so well. Held up the ball, laid it off. Won every header. Fantastic and whats more I think he is a premiership player.

One more thing Seabourne was exceptional in the air and won pretty much everything. This was particularly impressive if you saw the size of the centre forward in the second half.

Just a few negatives though left side distribution is slow and I can see why Fox has arrived and when the pressure was on Kelvin did seem to get sucked in and I would say the second goal was probably his error although it all came from Connolly giving the ball away.

All in all one of the best away days I've had and I can't remember seeing Saints score 5 in a game i've been at.

With belief I think we can do this. Its gonna be hard, but we have the raw material.

Great performance -- still buzzing underlined by our five rapier-like finishes compared with their two streaky efforts. We showed real bottle to close the game, though we deserved to be 4-1 up and out of sight before they made things interesting - not just Lallana's shot that was cleared off the line; but also the cross that Lallana was within inches of glancing in; the keeper's sliced clearance that fell straight to one of our players just outside the 6 yard box etc etc. Also nice to see Morgan and Fox slot in seamlessly - our bench is looking pretty formidable.

A few concerns, however. Our defense looked shaky at times, especially the left hand side (Seaborne and Harding). Specifically, the power of Scotland and Emmanuel-Thomas caused us problems. Some of this could be put down to the adrenaline and momentum of Ipswich pulling a goal back just after half time and the ebb-and-flow of an away game in the championship. But Ipswich also had their chances in the first half and its now 5 goals in 4 games.

Ipswich aren't a bad side, so the scoreline definitely reflected our dominance, not their frailties. But lets be clear that their strengths lie in the final third not at the bacl. They lack two decent CBs and have long been looking to strengthen, bringing in Ingimarsson who then got injured. Along with Carlos Edwards at RB (!), they were poor at the back -and that clearly played into our hands.

I've always thought that Saturday would be a morer revealing game than Ipswich. Millwall WILL get in our faces: they play a more L1 style of football, albeit with more pace and are resilient at the back. Other teams will no doubt be looking how we deal with quite a different style and learning...

Don't think the clip on Sky Sports showed it in full, but Lallana's skill in the build up for the third is worth hunting down mate, absolute top draw bit of football.

was nothing wrong with the support saturday from where i was stood!

I thought it was a lot better last night, but then we were more crammed into one section and had a low roof to help with the noise unlike at Barnsley where it was a half empty stand and more spread out.

Not sure if there's anything to add to the above points other than to reiterate the fact that we were truly magnificent at times. I was driving home last night thinking about how sweet it would be if we went to Fratton on 18th December and played them off the park in the same way.

Regards the 2 goals we let in, it did seem as if we panicked slightly under the onslaught at the start of the second half. They really did chuck everything into the box for 20 minutes or so, and as mentioned above this was when a Jaidi like player in defence would have come to the fore. Still, we managed to get through that sticky patch and then banged in another 2 for good measure.

We are Southampton, we'll score when we want.

Always annoys me when the goal highlights on tv don't show the whole move. The clip should always start from the point when the team which scores gets possession. But you are right, it was sublime skill from Adam. What a player.

And I think this is where Jaidi will come in very useful. Even at his age he's the perfect player to bring on in the last 15-20 mins when we're defending a lead, camped in our own half and the opposition are spraying balls into our box left right and centre

Good report Shurlock - on what I've seen last season and in the Leeds and Barnsley games this year, our two weaknesses are LB (Harding) and CB (Martin, Seabourne) - while understanding the argument for keeping a successful and harmonious team intact, these are the spots needing bolstering.

We signed Danny Fox, he is a left back.

View from the home end for it.

The language is, er, industrial!

That's just brilliant. What a goal. From Guly's run bringing the ball out of defence, to the way we find space on the right, then wait for options, Lallana's skill, Guly's knock back and DC's finish. Awesome.

I also like the bloke just in front of the camera who storms off when the ball goes in. Hahaha.

Still buzzing, fantastic performance, the best I have seen away from home from any Saints team ever! IMHO I thought Guly was a little below par as well as Seasbourne and Harding. We do need a quality left footed centreback, we now have Fox for left back and we have plenty of options for Guly. Jaidi, whilst a rock would not be the player to come in against oppostion like Ipswich, he would have been murdered by their pace and I do believe Jaidi can only be emergency cover. Lets face it, Ipswich caused us a few problems, Kelvin had to make 2 very, very good saves when we were 2-0 up and their 2nd half 20 minutes showed they will cause problems for many teams, which makes the 5-2 demolition look even better. Slick, sublime, awesome, fantastic, ruthless, simply the best!!

Only another 43 league wins to go!!!!

No, didn't show that, it didn't really come across like that on the radio either unfortunately, although i only really listened in properly when it said about Guly going into the area, will have to dig it out, the boy is a different class.

I dont think Harding can cut it in the championship. He doesn't look comfortable on the ball and wont play the ball first time. I watched him a lot during the game and his positioning was pretty shocking. Constantly turned attack into defence. He did give it his all but i'm not convinced his all is good enough in this team. Can see why Fox has been bought in. Oh and we need a CB and some pace up front! The great thing is we're playing parts of the game incredibly well passing the ball around with absolute class BUT you can see we aren't the finished article, which is a good thing. Once these things are ironed out we wont be stopped!

With pace, it would have been a cricket score - lost count of the number of times Cork dispossessed one of their players, broke, only to find our forwards struggling to keep up. I don't blame them - a large part of our success is the willingess of our forwards to track back and defend from the front and maintain that intensity over the course of 90 mins.

But a bit of pace and a ball over the top and we would have murdered them. Even the Ipswich forum picked up on our relative lack of pace.

I'd actually left the room for some reason, and when returning to hear the commentator say "he's rounding the keeper" I had no idea which team was about to score. Given that it was 3-2 to Saints at the time, I was papping it until I heard the faint roar of the away fans, as opposed to the louder home fans. :)

Guly? That's the third goal - we were 2 up at the time, right?

Sorry, what pace was that?

I thought Ipswich had some strong players (Scotland, Emmanual-Thomas) but I didn't notice any fast ones.

Great game last night, I can't remember the last time we dominated a first

half like that away from home. As others have said, Cork was truly

outstanding in midfield; he seemed to win every tackle, hard but fair (don't

remember him being penalised despite getting really stuck in), and he keeps

his head up all the time so when he wins the ball he's ready to distribute

well. He certainly gave Rat-Boy a lesson in assertive midfield play!

I'd also single out Connolly for some outstanding lay-offs to keep attacking

moves going, Rickie for winning lots of headers, glancing the ball into

space for the runner. Lallana just a joy to watch as always, this guy plays

without any fear no-matter what part of the pitch he's in with the ball,

could easily have had a hat-trick. Guly unpredictable but brilliant at

times.

What a great day spent with my tractor boy mate stayed with him last time we played and we won 3-0 so 8-2 up overall he did mention they won the second half at one point during injury time! not bad day for tour of the brewery in Bury, train, beers and best away performance can ever remember ! Saints we salute you
