Finally managed to get my phone on charge on the train back! Motm has got to go to Cork tonight I think, absolutely outstanding overall performance. Other than him, I think Rickie was outstanding. Not for his goals, which were both well taken, but for his build up play. He won so many headers tonight and his first touch and short passing was outstanding IMO. I also thought Richardson was impressive again.

My ninth consecutive league game and we have won them all. Unbeliveable. May never happen again. Proud of the team.

Kelvin 7 Comanding performance in the box, a great near post (yes) save Not at fault for their goals

Frazer 8 Strong, solid Has started the season very strongly

Jose 7 Not looking quite as much of a class above as last season but played very well

Dan Seabourne 7 Strong in the air No nonsense clearances good performance

Dan H 7 Tenacious worked his socks off

Deano 7 Another dependable all acton performance

Jack Cork 9 Fantastic Hardly a missed pass What a signing What a player MOTM

Guly 7 Best performance of he season The odd mis placed pass / opportunity

Adam 8 Fantastic skills Our new MLT Two lovely goals

Ricki 8 Excellent performance Great finishes Lead the line strongly Great lay offs etc

David C 7 Silky skills, great finish, tired towards the end. I think his mis placed pass lead to the first Ipswich goal

Morgan 7 Slotted in great Great passing

Dan Fox 7 Will need time to settle in good start

Nigel Atkins 9 Top man.

Fans 8 Great vocal support and very good turnout especially mid week and at £31 a ticket

Despite two goals and ripping them a new one Lananna had a quiet game!

I thought Seaborne was excellent and even covered for Fonte' ocaissonal errors ....

Connoly was different class .. didn't see anyone lay a (legal) foot on him all night.

Who is this new player 'Deano' Hammond? I think we should give him the arm band now .... first class.

Jack Cork you say? Looked like a Premier league midfielder who had turned up at the wrong game.

Only one man-of-the-match tonight .... (and I'm not his biggest fan) ..... R-I-C-K-Y L-A-M-B-E-R-T just played his best ever 90 mins in a Saint's shirt!

Awesome .... I doubted if he could play in the CCC .... can I raise you ... 'I wonder if he could do it in the Prem?'

Lambert was MOTM for me.

He played his best ever 90 minutes for Southampton tonight.

Lead the line superbly, fully deserved his goals and could have had more.

Won almost everything in the air and his link-up play with the likes of Connolly, Lallana and Guly was a joy to watch.

All in all, a fantastic evening and one that'll live long in the memory.

Despite two goals Lallana had a quiet game! ......... That's what he's paid for

I thought Seaborne was excellent and even covered for Fonte' ocaissonal errors ....... we shouldn't loan him out to B'mouth then ?

Connolly was different class .. didn't see anyone lay a (legal) foot on him all night.......you mean that injury-prone veteran?

Who is this new player Hammond? I think we should give him the arm band now ..first class. ..... should he really be captain?

Jack Cork? Looked like a Premier league midfielder who had turned up at the wrong game...... Good buy eh? ..or was it steal?

Only one man-of-the-match tonight .... (and I'm not his biggest fan) ..... R-I-C-K-Y L-A-M-B-E-R-T just played his best ever 90 mins in a Saint's shirt! ......... If he gets 20+ goals in this league he's good enough for anything...

Awesome .... I doubted if he could play in the CCC .... can I raise you ... 'I wonder if he could do it in the Prem?'

........sorry I've run out of superlatives in the last 10 days....highlighted comments are composite response to the pessimists comments / complaints on this site during the last few months..

Very tough to call MOTM Cork was awesome Lallana plays football from a different planet Connolly was 1st class but for me Lambert was MOTM he won every ball played up to him & did something with it his link up play was outstanding looked fit sharp & faster than last season took his goals very well sublime pass for the last goal Ipswich could not get near him

Lambert 9.5

Cork 9

Lallana 8.9

Connolly 8

Taken from the Ipswich forum........

Adam Lallana was probably one of the best individual performances I've seen for a few years. However we made it incredibly easy for him to do whatever he wanted.

He was awesome, I cant remember many better either. There whole midfield looked good, was impressed with Cork as well.

It was like watching one of those games where you hide a ball under a cup. Our players were watching the cups moving around and then forgot which one the ball was under.

I think it was the fourth goal - I lose count. However we had five men back to Soton's two or three, yet they still strolled through us.

At times Cork does so much work that it seems as if there are 2 of him on the pitch. So far this season he has been scarily good and at times last night he made Bowyer look like park player.

Cork, Lallana, Lambert. MOTM was one of those 3, can't split them really.

I don't think I've ever called a four way tie before but it's almost impossible to separate Cork, Lallana, Ricky and Connolly on the night...the fact that any of the others weren't far behind underlines what a phenomenal display it was.

Long season ahead but I've loved the start!!

Cork for me. One of the best performances I've seen in a Saints shirt.

One thing I will say though is I'm suprised people rated Connolly's performance so highly. I agree he did some good work during the game but when you're giving the ball away straight to an opposition player in your own half TWICE and they both lead to goals I don't think you deserve too much praise. Don't want to be negative but its a relevant point.

Connolly was excellent first half, had a strange 2nd half. As you say gave the ball away a few times, had a right go at Seaborne after they got their first, then looked very hit and miss after that, giving the ball away for their 2nd. Would still have him in my starting 11 all day long.

I would like to see Nigel's name added to the list because I thought it was such a GREAT TEAM performance where ALL the players played to 95+% of their best, i.e. the defenders and midfielders were all excellent allowing the forward players to express themselves.
