Rickie Lambert hits nail on head.

I think Nige thoroughly vets them character wise and works to a wage structure, so that would be unlikely to happen.

+2. And NC isn't going to let another prima donna like Puncheon in either.

I bet Billy Sharp is a bit ****ed off with his agent now though.

It certainly seems that we do have something special going on here, I thought we'd have a team to compete at this level. But they are surpassing all expectations so far. Not just the results but the manor of the football. As for NA & NC they seem to be right on the money with team spirit & ethos, they will not let anyone rock the boat here.

Pleased for Rickie tonight. The Leeds game seemed to pass him by and Barnsley wasnt

much better - leaving me wondering whether he might be too immobile/ponderous for

this league. What an answer !!

bit clueless then aren't you? - no offence intended of course.

Our defence is shocking. We're average a goal a game. That's a massive 46 over the season!!

hmmmm....mind you we will have scored over a hundred :)

Out of curiosity.....how many times in the past 20 years have we only conceded 46 or less in a season (with last year being an obvious exception)

ok...I've just answered my own question...5 times in the past SIXTY years....and twice in the last 28 lol)

yep..exactly.

I've been saying the same all summer when people have been hyperventilating at the fact we haven't made 12 new signings and replaced the team.

We didn't need to, and that would have ruined the chance of this start.

We got ignored or trampled on when we tried to make the point that our run in last season had created something special.

Hell I posted a lengthy missive about the dynamics of a TEAM, and how important the mental side of football is, but oh no we had all the moaners and attention seeking lack of ambitions going on.

Football is a game played by 11 players in a TEAM. It has never been about having 11 NAMES (poopey take note)

I think a big part of this is pre-season with Adkins. Goes to show that Cortese was spot on.

Just thinking back. Last year there had been some kind of row between NC & AP at the end of the 2009/10 season, we heard tales of pre-season not being up to the mark.

Then go back further, so much turmoil, the Dutch experiment, Befuddled Burley

We probably haven't actually had a settled pre-season for 5 or 6 years

IT 's Leicester who've got 12 new players..(Svennis' job is to introduce them to each other) meanwhile Nigel's gone and got Jack Cork..signing of the season surely, Danny Fox to give us an extra dimesion at the back, De Ridder is a breath of fresh air - isn't he ?...and all we need now is that one more signing - an extra striker..and I'll be satisfied.

I've given my reasons on the other thread, but injuries, suspensions and loss of form can happen anytime...

Other wise ..full steam ahead!

Not only can Rickie score goals, his work off the ball, layoffs and passing are so good. This seems to get overlooked by the few. We acknowledge he is not the quickest, but he certainly ran through the defenders last night for his two goals.

Good post. This notion has been on my mind a lot during the transfer window.....An yes, I agree. And that sports Psychology degree he has seems to be doing wonders.

We really seem to have found the right balance at the moment. Brighton complain about us being overly physical which is partly a result of Pardews tenure, who was inspired by united - targeting strong and direct players: Lambert, Hammond, Richardson, Fonte even Puncheon, but that's just one asset of this squad. Saints have produced and brought on two very technically gifted players in Lallana and Schneiderlin which has been added to with Nigel's signings (Cork, De Ridder). Now if we can perhaps add a little more pace and bolster the centre of defence we can be a real force. Exciting times to be a saints fan!

In RL and co. we trust.

To get us a mid-table finish in the Championship..

Sorry mate, but that is one seriously negative post. Before the season began I thought we'd finish around 12th but given the quality of football we have played, the weaknesses shown by other teams and the strength in depth we have I am confident we can be a top 6 team now.

Looking around at the players some Championship clubs have brought in I'm glad we haven't got them.
