vince Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Tuesday 3rd February, 2009, home v Sheffield Utd was the last league game were we had less (13,257). That was the only home league game that season with less, although I suspect Doncaster on Sat 17th Jan (15,837) may have been a contender, but it was probably twinned with the ManUre cup game. And yes, I'm bored and was curious!!
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Can anyone also explain why their games are still getting priority on Solent radio? Well if the post-cup celebrations of a few years back are anything to go by, they apparently have 250,000 "fans". As 240,000 of them weren't at Fratton Park they have a greater need of radio coverage. Everyone in Portsmouth is probably glued to the radio whenever there's a match on. Or in prison. hamster Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Does the attendance figure include the bloke who paid £125 to be the official '12th man' [sic] ? Should include 45 minutes on the pitch if you ask me.
Chez Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 as Vince pointed out just 13,257 of us turned up in that painful defeat to Sheffield United, so I am not exactly sure why we are crowing about their poor attendance last night. There are lots of fickle fans out there.

I lived in Andover at the time and it was very, very dicey getting there.
Lighthouse Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 A 2 page thread about Pompey attendances on the main board. Seriously? For such an apparently, 'tin pot nothing club' our fans sure do seem to have a sad obsession with them. Attendances in particular. Yes, on average our crowds are bigger, we get the message. We don't need another f**kin' thread every time they knock another dosen off their personal best.

SaintBobby Posted 18 August, 2011 Share Posted 18 August, 2011 I have to say I am amazed by how bad their attendance is. Genuinely amazed. Beyond the "only one team in Hampshire"/"they are a pub team" jibes, can anyone genuinely explain why their attendance is so pitiful?

That would have stopped many to get to the game, i know it stopped us. The same would have been from other directions as well

Yeah do know where your coming from mate but i think we are highlighting the fact that skates in general do believe they have the best fans in the world, sleeping giants bla bla, where as we have never made such comments. So to get 13,000 for a derby game contradicts what they say about themselves.

That would have stopped many to get to the game, i know it stopped us. The same would have been from other directions as well I didn't remember the snow, just Ward coming on and scoring at the death. Ok so the crowd might have been higher but we didn't set the world alight in terms of attendances that season as Corp Ho pointed out on the famous takeover thread: 30th Aug vs Blackpool – 15,629 17th Sep vs Ipswich – 14,916 20th Sep vs Barnsley – 14,836 30th Sep vs Norwich – 14,480 28th Oct vs Coventry – 14,226 8th Nov vs Bristol City – 14,535 6th Dec vs Sheff Weds – 15,440 17th Jan vs Doncaster – 15,837 3rd Feb vs Sheff Utd – 13,257 21st Feb vs Preston – 14,790 Their tickets are £30 quid as well, which is rediculous considering how poor they were last season and expectation for this. if you want a rod to beat them with let's keep our powder dry till the 18th when hopefully we'll have everything we need to take the mick. That's more than enough defence of the **** from me. Keep it real.

Protests outside the ground during the game, the boardroom saga etc Pompey just had a take over and all is ok again, yet they got 11k fans turn up for a local derby. (How is this still on the main board?)
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 18 August, 2011 Share Posted 18 August, 2011 would you pay £30 a ticket to watch a shower of sh!t in a sh!thole of a ground? From the outside, knowing those in the ground have no umbrellas -then yes.
Saint_lambden Posted 18 August, 2011 Share Posted 18 August, 2011 The consensus among Football fans that they have good support is such a myth. One d*ck with a bell and them clapping along with it is not an atmosphere. They couldn't sell out a under 20,000 seater stadium in the Premier League on a lot of occasions in their last season there which says it all. FMPR Posted 20 August, 2011 Share Posted 20 August, 2011 On the gate price for all Saints league games is £32 in the Itchen/Kingsland centre stands and the Torquay game cost £14. Haven't Pompey got categories this season, so some games will cost less than £32 on the day of the game? You really can't use that as an excuse for why Pompey get 11k home fans and Saints get 23k home fans. Nor can you blame the economy, as it is the same for both sets of fans. Pretty sure we are not doing this... Adult Match tickets are also available from just £23 when bought in advance of a matchday An Under 11s category in all areas has been introduced, and all under 11s will be admitted FREE when attending matches with a full paying adult Would certainly boost our attendances if it were £23 a ticket

dune Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 I remember the pompey scum always saying they were the biggest club, and that if they were in the premiership like we were for years they'd get bigger gates. Now here we are in the same division and they are clearly the smaller club. In fact i'd say they were smaller than Brighton as well.
southbourne saint Posted 28 August, 2011 Share Posted 28 August, 2011 As a side issue Bompey only gotjust over 5,000 take off the away fans and the season ticket holders, and there aint any fans buying matchday tickets. They've gone mighty quiet down here.
