great first half

could have had more 3 in the first half

great attitude from the squad

knew they would go for it in the 2nd half

did not defend well enough

great support from our fans

weathered the storm

great win against a good side

will analyse the performance but we gave them too much space, will review it and learn

we can score from all over the park. we try to create options all over the park

try to play possession football and its tough in this league

cant control a whole game, impossible and we have to defend better

1st half, we were very lively, just like training

team were very critical of themselves after the barnsley win

lambert fitter than ever

morgan potentially one of the best players in the league and cant start at the mo

cork is a class act, simple of that, no.1 target all summer and had to get him

the whole group is important

amazing team spirit

took guly off to try and nullify their left side

fox came on to add extra defence and allowed lallana to push up behind rickie, worked well

mass speculation with saints, we dont get involved with that, we do business as privately as possible

long may the speculation continue

this is a competitive league, we just have to do it our way, we will lose games and we cant let that get us down

love this fella.....what a manager to have

Nigel - "Lambert in the shape of his life"

"Schneiderlin has potential to be one of the best players in the league this season and he can't even get in the team at the moment."

"Cork a class act. Top target this summer."

"I can't wait to see the goals again myself"

"Mass speculation, tried not to get involved about speculation with other players from other teams. Got players at the moment who are scoring lots of goals."

lamberts reaction...

pleasure to play in this team

we all know each others game

delighted to get off the mark to score in the NPC

team been together for 2 years and it clearly shows, something special going on at the club at the mo

knew they would go for it 2nd half, gutted we let in 2 goals, lads are gutted

scored 4th at vital time

team knew what they had to do to win, and gained control again in the 2nd half at the right time

3 games won, a good start and nothing more

very grounded IMO....sounds delighted too

The thing I like is that he's still not satisfied. A lot of managers will be delighted with. 5-2 away win against a good side, im sure he is too but he's still talking about improving areas of the performance. Great attitude from a manager.

Totally agree, he isnt pushing their 2 goal comeback under the carpet cos we scored 5. Good sign that.

Lambert: "We (Lambert, Connolly, Lallana) know each others games. We are onto something special at the moment"

"Made up to get my first Championship goals."

delighted for Lambo, he's worked his arse off in the lower leagues to get here. Always felt he'd score at this level.

This exactly. There was a thread on here a few days ago suggesting he might get found out, we should be looking for someone quicker etc. For me, Ricky defines the way the whole team play, we mould our game around him. In the air he's the best we've had since Beattie was here. In fact he's perhaps even more dominant at times. On the ground he has great awareness, and what he does lack in flat out speed he more than makes up for in technique.

I'm really happy with him leading the line, and only hope it furthers adds to his confidence that he can completely boss it at this level as he has done in League 1.

We may have scored five away from home but we conceded two not good enough Adkins and Cortese out - on behalf of all of the whingers and moaners on the site

Terrific stuff Saints I am devastated to miss the Millwall game on Saturday due to a stag weekend in Newquay

Equals - We are Southampton we'll do what we want - but is well aware we might have to change our tactics at times to win the game.

Being on the bus, all pulling in the same direction - it's as simple as that.

New song for Nige .... We are Southampton and we're on the Bus or ..........We are Southampton ... it's as simple as that. :D

Looking forwards to hearing you singing that at Karaoke tomorrow night.

I'll then translate it and relay the tune to the Songmeisters on here.

Meanwhile, isn't football an amazingly simple game when you take away Ego's and Politics and bring in Continuity.

I beleive anything is possible with NA in charge

He's clearly a great coach, but he's also not an old fashioned English manager, he's an intellect who believes strongly in Sport Science and Psychology

The players believe in themselves, they believe in the manager, and they believe in their teammates

This has always been a key ingredient of his success.

Just look at S****horpe - it has a population of 72k, that's less than Basingstoke ffs! Yet, he took them from the butt of footballing jokes into the NPC (twice)

This guy is a serious class act, I'm astonished there are posters on here who are still unconvinced

Absolutely chuffed with the fantastic way we have started the season, but if there is one criticism to be made, this is it. It was the same against Leeds. We have to be in the other teams face a bit more. If you let them get their tails up, we start losing games.

I wonder how many Premiership Chairmen are watching Adkins with envious eyes.......

This worries me :(

Nah Adkins is unproven in the PL and it's only a lower end club that could possibly go for him. Even if they did it's increasingly looking like long term he's in a better position now than he would be if he jumped ship.

Besides I'm sure Mr Cortese would have something to say about it

Relax yourself, Nigel has already said that the only job he would consider leaving us for is the one at Liverpool, and with an Anfield god in charge there for the foreseable future, i'm not worried that he's going anywhere but to the top with Saints!

Adkins knows that as far as structure and resources go, he's far better off staying with Saints and moving up with us at the mo, unless it really was one of the big clubs, but that won't happen.

He has an opportunity (which he seems to be taking) to build a whole club in his image... as much as Pardew started the ball rolling with many of the players, Adkins has moulded them into the group we have now. He has earnt (well, I'd like to think so) the respect and patience of the fans who now mostly trust him to take us forward, and has done all of this is less than a year. That's also worth remembering... he joined us on Sept 12th 2010... IMO, what he has achieved in that time, and the culture now prevalent at the club, is nothing less than astonishing and even I, known for my optimism, could not have expected things to go so well.

Anyway... Adkins will be courted by other clubs if this continues, I have no doubt. But I firmly believe that he'll be with us for the long term, because we're moving forward all the time and there is nothing he can't achieve with us now, IMO.
