Sour Mash Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Don't know what game you were watching against Leeds but I can't remember one moment of the match apart from KD's save just before Hammond's goal where Leeds were even remotely in it. It sounds as if we have improved further still but to say there wasn't much in it against Leeds, I don't know what game you were watching. Exactly - strange analysis, we were much better than Leeds. Also we were much better against Ipswich than we were against Barnsley, genuine cutting edge, real creativity going forward, little of which I saw at Barnsley. At Barnsley we bossed the game for 85mins but lacked that cutting edge going forward and didn't create much. We more than made up for that last night. As for The9's comment about the Leeds game - I can only assume you were drunk whilst watching that game - very, very drunk.
Midfield_General Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Had to laugh when the commentator on Saints Player/ Solent was reading out the texts from fans once it became clear we were going to win it. Obviously hadn't read them in advance, as he read one out along the lines of "... and we've got one from Dan which says, watch out you dirty Skates because we're coming for you". He then followed up a few minutes later (presumably after an ear bashing from the producer) with a rather sheepish "... but of course we offer equal support to all our south coast teams". shurlock Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 Extended highlights now on Ipswich OS with the build-up our goals as well as the comedy of errors that was their 2nd.

It sounds as if we have improved further still but to say there wasn't much in it against Leeds, I don't know what game you were watching. As you said they should have scored early on before we even had a shot, and we then scored with pretty much every chance we created in the first half. Leeds gave up about 60 minutes in, but until that point the play on the pitch was fairly even and we weren't making much in the way of chances just as they weren't, we just finished better. We were nowhere near the level we were against Barnsley, that's for sure. It seems everyone is now invoking hindsight to "remember" that we were much better than Leeds. We weren't. We deserved to win, and looked reasonably comfortable with the cushion of the goals, but we in no way dominated the way we have in the league games since. The main thing about the Leeds match was that they tried their best to wound us out of the game, and nearly did just that. We were miles ahead in skill. But in attritional terms we could well have been bludgeoned into defeat. Fortunately our men have steel in them these days, and not the physical pushover Leeds thought we would be. Saint137 Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 If the Barnsley win was the first time we'd won our first two league fixtures in 23 years, how long has it been since we won our first 3? Won our first three in 88/89 and topped the 1st Division. Drew with Arsenal in the next game and then lost to Liverpool.
Handyman Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 I predicted to myself that we would win 5 to 1 but dare not post it on here as I thought I might get laughed at, nearly right though. Perhaps I should have bet on Saints getting 5 goals!

Steel which probably game from a couple of years in the rough and tumble of League 1.Looks as if Brighton may go three from three as well, much the same side as they had last season and Vindelot and CMS were playing in League 1 as well. Looks like you've got to be handy to get out of Lge 1 then. Edited 17 August, 2011 by Window Cleaner
ericb Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 So how long before we adapt the "we're coming for you song" to "we're to good for this league"? Just to wind up a few more away fans anyway

Just to wind up a few more away fans anyway Perhaps more annoying for oppo fans would be "we're just passing through" "we won't be here next year, we're just passing through" Blimey did I just come up with a new song there? The start to this season really is causing weird stuff to happen
Lazlo78 Posted 17 August, 2011 Share Posted 17 August, 2011 We we had an early game against pompey. Have you managed to calm down a bit since yesterday? You made an epic contribution in the matchday thread with your anxiety taking hold of you - I really felt for you

Fordy Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Nice to see that although P'boro scored 7, our overall goal difference is still better than theirs. Gotta be happy with that. We're a consistent goal machine, not just a one off against the shambolic Ipswich 'defence'
