Colinjb Posted 15 August, 2011 Share Posted 15 August, 2011 He progressed extremely well during his time with us, I just hope the lack of game-time in the past year hasn't blunted his abilities. All the best to him.
saint_stevo Posted 15 August, 2011 Share Posted 15 August, 2011 League 1 is ptobably his level, even then he was average. Poor final pass/cross, No thanks.
Huntingdon Posted 15 August, 2011 Share Posted 15 August, 2011 I liked him. I remember our game at SMS in the league, Antonio came off the bench when we were 1-0 down and he transformed the match This time last year we had threads saying we should sign him for £500k
doddisalegend Posted 15 August, 2011 Share Posted 15 August, 2011 I'd have him back fast and direct was always good to watch. TBH I think Reading screwed him over we wanted him he wanted to come here reading got greedy and his devolopment ended up stalled another season with us in league one would have done him the world of good. dubai_phil Posted 15 August, 2011 Share Posted 15 August, 2011 I liked him. I remember our game at SMS in the league, Antonio came off the bench when we were 1-0 down and he transformed the match This time last year we had threads saying we should sign him for £500k This time last year we were having a bad start in League 1. We loved him for his potential. He had great moments and he had awful moments. Apart from his build he brings little in the moments category that we do not already have with Forte (who started our whole run off against MKD) Now we are looking for players with the potential to KEEP us in the PL if the backroom staff think he could do that & recommend him to NA then great but I seriously doubt it. The Cat Posted 15 August, 2011 Share Posted 15 August, 2011 What he said. If he'd spent last season with us he would be an excellent impact sub. I kind of agree, although I think we can do better. Also the 5 sub rule works against him. With the amount of quality midfielders and strikers we have (+1 to that list if we get in someone else) he'd struggle to get on the bench for most games. Saint Stimp Posted 15 August, 2011 Share Posted 15 August, 2011 Good signing for them, nothing to do with us though really. Was good at the time but we've moved on to better things.

Rasiak-9- Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 Meh...kind of a shame in my opinion. Great player from what I saw - good pace and work rate and chipped in a fair few goals to boot - definitely don't see what he couldn't have done a job at least off the bench even now. Bentley Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 With the vast option of players at our disposal in midfield already, and the subs bench being shortened down, it wouldn't be worth it for Saints or Antonio, he just wouldn't get anywhere near the team now. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 Good luck to him, this player very obviously needed a move away from Reading. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him grab this opportunity and do well.
dronskisaint Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 Was good for us as impact sub, good throw, very willing. IMHO wouldn't fit the style we're playing now. Wish him well - played an important part in the JPT run and had himself a Wembley winners medal that he's unlikely to get again

Yes well said. A good player who would do well under Nigel's watchful coaching eye. I loved him and was a star at Wembley - would he cut it now - it's very hard to say but undoutedly he would have done much better coming to us than staying with Reading..... eurosaint Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 What's the betting that we get Colchester in the cup and he scores the winner ???
Clifford Nelson Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 We moved on too far since he was here to consider him again. It took me a long while to understand why on earth Pardew borrowed him, since he looke totally hopeless to start with. Things got better and I enjoyed especially two things about him: Firstly, not wanting to fall over but trying desperately to stay up, and secondly, two or three screaming goals. Boris Karloff Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 Shame we didn't keep either him or Papa Waigo. Never really understood that decision.
david in sweden Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 (edited) http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11673_7103473,00.html your thoughts ...you can't have your cake ..and eat it .. Reading thought they were being clever to take Antonio back after his good finish to the season and the JPT win at Wembley... Now they've let him rot in their Reserve side and he out on loan - AGAIN. Can't complain about the SAINTS end of season, but I feel he would have made a good contribution had he been allowed to stay. Seaford Saint Posted 16 August, 2011 Share Posted 16 August, 2011 My take is this, he could be coached into a good footballer.. He had pace, could hold the ball and had an eye for goal too. Nigel is an excellent coach. I guess his opportunity here has gone now.
