Match coverage on a phone?

Bit of a random one, but does anyone know if Saints player or the Ipswich one work on a phone (in particular an I-phone)? I've had to come away to Holland with work and in the rush to get here at short notice managed to forget my laptop charger cable. However I've got my phone and hotel wi-fi - will I be able to listen in on this 2mo?

(appologies mods if you feel this should be in the tech board - pls move as you see fit)

Thanks in advance!

Sadly mate, it won't work. Saints Player and all services from that stable, require flash player. Therefore anything with a half eaten fruit on the cover will not work.

Bugger!!! And I'm guessing there won't be any other online radio feeds either!! Ah well will have to make do with the match thread on here or try and steal a laptop cable in tomorrow's meetings!!

Cheers!

Getting involved on Twitter might help ease your pain. The Official feed updates with important incidents more quickly than the BBC Sport website and there's plenty of banter to be had with other Saints fans on the #saintsfc hashtag (bit like the match threads on here but without the crashing). That's if you have Twitter already of course, probably a bit much to learn how to use it and set up an account for one evening's use!

Does this really work??

Yep, it does work, try it out with the free app version first, problem is free version times out after 5 minutes (or something like that) and you need to keep reloading... Pay for the full version and no time limits, i use it for all match commentaries, highlights and interviews with no problems at all...

There's an app called TuneIn Radio available for Blackberry (probably also on Android/iPhone) where you can stream radio broadcasts. Whether Solent has the rights to broadcast Saints games or not, I'm not entirely sure, but I was able to get their cricket commentaries through it.

Tried TuneIn radio on the IPhone, unfortunately no good... It just picks up the Internet stream rather than the Solent broadcast so cuts to continuous adverts at game time....

I think the Blackberries do flash anyway, so you can get SaintsPlayer. The tablet certainly does.

This. Although, I didnt want to risk using all my data allowance so for the Barnsley game I phoned my house phone and got my Sister to leave it by the radio with Radio Solent left on. Listened to the whole game on the coach back from Bristol

I've been having the same problem trying to listen to the game whilst at work but managed on the iPhone for the last 2 games through Justin tv app. Just searched for Southampton and someone was streaming the game. (this does depend on someone streaming the game from home but its worth a shout)

Tune In Radio definitely doesn't work for ANY of the BBC local radio stations - it's because the BBC have the radio broadcast rights but not the internet broadcast rights. As is said above, the streams Tune-In picks up are the same as the local radio streaming, which cuts out to a message saying something like "we cannot bring you this programme...".

I had particular fun discovering this when we played Dag & Red away last season, as there was no radio in the house at the time. We have since bought a DAB Radio, and now all I have to get p155ed off about is Pompey being on Digital whilst Saints are still on FM - though that works out better in the car anyway.

Has anyone tried this iPhone app? http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/photon-flash-web-browser-full/id453546382?mt=8

Seems to get mixed reviews. It claims to stream any Flash Player content from servers in the US. They say "It works best over WIFI compared to 3G" which, again, goes part way to defeating the object of listening/watching on the move.

Just had a look into this, but if you check out the reviews they are appalling. I did manage to get the Iswifter working on the iPad and that is more than acceptable, but thus far the iPhone over 3g seems a step too far at present.

If anyone has any success let us all know would you. Out in Eastleigh tonight in Stones and am going to miss the match all I can get is the FL app and thats not exactly involving.

Just tried this out, it's a bit laggy on a wifi connection but managed to watch videos on saints player from my iPhone although it wouldn't let me put the video full screen. This won't be an issue if you just want to listen to games anyway, going to try it out tonight I reckon it will work.

(What I had tried was photon btw)

Cheers. Yep, most of the bad reviews of these remote streaming solutions seem to point the finger at video lag so, as you say, maybe it'll be find for the flash audio feed from Saints Player...

FWIW I'm listening to the live SaintsPlayer feed on a Blackberry Playbook tonight. WiFi connection, not paired with the phone, so not using phone data.

Mrs. Hutch got the playbook free with an upgrade, so handy to have around. It's not really much use for anything else.

If I understand you correctly I have to disagree. I have a Blackberry using Tune-In app and it worked fine all day long for Radio Solent on Saturday when I was on the coach to Barnsley.

I think you do misunderstand, unless you listened to the commentary during the game. You can listen to Solent streaming online as per the radio broadcast whether laptop or pc, tune-in or whatever UNTIL the match starts, then the game is replaced with a recorded messag

I can confirm that over Wi-fi, on iPhone 4 this works perfectly.

Thanks for the great idea. It works perfectly on the Ipad2 through our 3 mifi dongle, so is perfectly transportable. Just to confirm that it did not work on 3G.

It will make a difference to our life. No longer wil I be tied to the laptop on match days and my wife wil be happy with that.
