Fun Times On The Supporters Coach

dune

Recommended Posts

I've just been watching Swansea fans on ITV news on the supporters coach and I have to say it looked a right laugh.

Does anyone from here travel on the supporters coach and do you have any funny memories to share from the bus?

No not really always boring, not used em in about 10yrs.

I was thinking about using em to few games soon though (as can't drive).

Anyone know are you allowed alcohol onboard ? and if not can you get away with some in ya bag ? (ie do they search your bag)

No, you are not. This is a law for alll football-supporters official travel, so not just a Saints thing. A ridiculous law, at that.

When me and a couple of mates used the travel club for a game a few seasons ago, we just filled some opaque bottles with beer and noone checked them or said a thing.

hide alcohol in a Coke bottle or similar, no-one checks......as for being a laugh, a friend and I were on there and were having a laugh and a joke with a few others who we'd only just met and we were told ,by the miserable woman who sits next to the driver, to 'be quiet as they don't like us to get too loud'.....we had just won at QPR FFS!!! ......so no, convenient it may be but a 'laugh' it is not.....

I've been on the bingo bus and the saints trust bus before, The bingo bus is ****e cos you get there about 30 mins before KO so can't go to the pub, the saints trust bus was good but don't think that exists any more?

I wish they had football special trains cos i've had some right laughs on trains to away games (a few missed connections and lost mates in the process but all good fun!)

Toally agree with this.I took the Saints trust coach to Wolves when we beat them 4-1 and it was quite a laugh, with us getting to the game late, the coach getting pelted with stones by angry Wolves fans and us getting lost on the way back.

The last time i caught a bingo bus was when we beat QPR and it was so ****e going to the game. You werent allowed to show any signs of life and to top it all,the driver put "Happy feet" on the dvd.

Not the best way to get you in the mood for a footy match.

I can tell you now that the supporters coaches are one long LOLathon. I've had some truely MENTAL times in my day on the fun bus. However on the odd ocasion these trips have been ruined by some of the unsavory fractions of our support. I remember one time after winning away at QPR this woman had a full coke bottle, although i am sure by her loud and obnixious behaviour she had probably slipped something stronger into it. She was very loud and irksome along with her feral friends whose unruly behaviour was shaming the name of our great club. Luckily for us an older lady stood up to them and told them to pipe down as their vulgar behaviour was ruining the trip for the rest of us. We obviously thanked her and have not seen these yobs since.

were you there when our fun bus bumped into swindon travel club at the services and it kicked off with bingo papers being thrown at each other and one of ours got a paper cut?

That was handbags compared to the battle of Newport Pagnell Services when we bumped into the Crystal Palace Travel Club who were en Route to Nottingham Forest back in 08. Some proper tasty older heads on both buses, Palace called it on but our Old boys were more than a match for them and sent them limping back to their buses with their zimmer frame stuck firmly between their legs.

I remember doing a few travel club coach trips in the early 90's - boring as hell. One trip up to Anfield was back to back "one foot in the grave" videos. Never, ever had time for a beer before the game either. Went on a few Eastside Travel coaches which were much more fun though and a good laugh - always sorted out a pre-match pub for us as well. I won six cases of lager in a raffle on a trip up to Leeds once. Also got Bobby Stokes as an after dinner speaker for a game up at Newcastle which was a bit special.

Eastside. That takes me back. Did they sort of become Princess Summerbee?

I have NEVER got the travel club to a game and I never will. I'd rather walk barefoot over a mile of aids infested glass.

You're right. I went on one once. Bolton away in the Carling Cup (QF?) when we lost 1-0 in extra time. Used the free travel voucher in my season ticket because I was skint. It's a decision that will haunt me to the grave.

I went to this too on the bingo bus! I think we lost on pens...

Edit - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/2427088/Pedersen-makes-Bolton-wait.html You were right, can't believe that was 2003, I was only 14/15 at the time, no idea how I blagged going there unsupervised!

It's the only way to travel to away games for me when I'm in the country. I usually bring a picnic big enough for everyone to share, cheeses, fruit, maybe a big pack of Worthers Originals, although haven't been able to do that for a while due to the economic downturn. The travel club just has a lovely community feel which you don't get on a train.

I also love it when we have a sing-a-long and the tension of the "who's going to win the Man of the Match poll?" is sometimes too much to handle!

Nah, In all seriousness though I f***ing love those coaches.

Used them a few times back in the late 70's when they were just starting up, to get to games that none of my mates were going to, or difficult to get to such as Grimsby FA Cup, Bolton Prom season, Preston L Cup, Norwich got there 20 mins late due to their 'can't get there too early policy' and ended up in a massive traffic jam after wasting valuable 'stalling' time at a service station, Burnley Prom season in the snow, and Ipswich - which was the only one to have the bonus of stopping in some small town in Suffolk instead of a Motorway service Station for the final colostomy bag emptying stop - and lo and behold there were a couple of pubs near the Car park - result 3 pints in 30 helped soften the blow!!! The only good thing I suppose was getting back relatively early so that you could go out for a few beers when you got home - but that didn't feel like a part of The Match day experience, just what you did every week.

Back in the day of course we didn't have such luxuries as videos, toilets or even Bingo, but even then the slightest sign of enthusiasm was met with total indifference or even distain. I think my favourite Travel club moment was our covoy of about 4 coaches arriving in the car park at Ipswich (where there always seemed to be trouble with us back then) and being met by loads of Old Bill. Before we were allowed off the coach an officer got on the coach and read us the riot act about going straighgt to the ground, no pubs (as if we had time to!!) and that the coaches would leave immediately after the game finished, no hanging on for stragglers etc, then as we got off the coach we were all searched. I think they got a serious amount of knitting needles and toenail clippers that day.... and then frog marched off to the ground ...brilliant stuff. Football factory eat your heart out.

End of the day though, the serve a section of the fan base that their service is ideal for, just not my cuppa tea.

Sheffield Wednesday away a few years back. One of the coaches broke down so we ALL had to wait. WTF is that all about? Did it for pure convenience and thankfully it was a one way trip as my sister lives near Sheffield and the wife was driving up the next day

Trust me when i say the trip was more boring than this post.

Honestly

Used them to get to Derby play off game and Man City in the FA Cup. Extreamly boring. Usually fill some coke bottles up with Vodka to try and pass the time.

Edit: Got it to Burnley once which was quite good. They played Football Factory on the TV for some reason. Was a bit more lively on there for some reason

Not sure, think they stopped because they got done a few times for allowing alcohol on the coaches.

Eastside did start using the Princess Summerbee coaches, but as you say, they died a death when alcohol was found on board on more than one occassion. Think there was bad feeling after a failed planned trip to the 94 World Cup. Think the guy who ran Eastside had big dreams but small pockets.

I have used the Travel Club twice in the last 15 years. One was an evening match at Newcastle where the first service station stop was Newbury for 40 mins FFS, and the onboard entertainment was some Frenech subtitled film on a small TV at the front of the coach. We also had an hours stop at Washington Services but luckily I found a pub round the back of those services.

The other time was Wolves away when we won 6-0. Last minute decision to go after coming out of hospital and used the free season ticket voucher. We were about 12 miles from Wolverhampton at 1230, so stopped for 75 mins so we wouldn't be too early for Police escort. Not the travel clubs fault, but very annoying.

Used the bingo twice to go down the road, first time we got locked in for over an hour and had to do the grand tour to get out of that **** hole as they kicked off and wrecked their own town (made improvements if the truth be known). Second time they were outside their slums in Velsda Ave giving it large with young kids running up to the coaches and gobing at them (nice).

Ditto. I've used the supporters coach for the last two visits to their place as it's easy - in and out - no hassle.

I remember the last time Saints charged 1 pound to park at SMS and I was furious about this insult of a charge. If it's true that the club now charge 10 pounds to park then i'll have to find somewhere else to park or get the train. Don't fancy driving and then getting held in the ground and have to wandr back to the car when everyone has already dispersed.

Did anyone here ever travel on a coach run by "black Dennis" in the early/ mid 90's? Did Leeds, Norwich, Arsenal, Everton, Man U, Man C, Leicester, QPR, Wednesday and others over 2/3 seasons. Clive Foley used to travel up on them but as a punter black Dennis was the organiser (always wore shirt and tie whatever the weather/ occassion).

Always a good trip to be fair, got there early - not many of the thermos/ tartan rug brigade either.

Oh yeah, can't believe I forgot about the bingo bus to Pompey. Got the train to the 1-0 game but it took so long to get back I could have walked it quicker so we plumped for the bus for the 4-1 defeat. After the game the streets on the way out of Pompey were lined with people giving us abuse. Made me laugh really. Mind you it seemed to give the locals something to do, at least they had a 10 minute break from sitting down and trying to count their own fingers.

Funnily enough am going by coach to the game as I don't have a car as otherwise I'd drive up and I use them nearly all the time tbh and there not bad and it would be way more fun if alcohol was allowed but not to be and tbh as long as I get there and back then it's OK with me! I don't use them for London games as I get the train/tube to them wherever they may be!

As for a funny story I went by coach with my family to the FA Cup Semi Final game at Villa Park v Watford and we got the coach there and before we left the driver said not to use the toilets they have on board for a number 2 but can use for a number 1 and one of the fans on the coach went to the toilet and while he was in there I accidentally let one rip (Farted!) and my family mainly my parents started cracking up as the other people thought the fan had done a number 2 so that was quite funny!

Good Times... lol!

COYR :D!!!
