Erik Huseklepp....

Huseklepp is definitly a very good striker/winger. Played his best at Brann Bergen (same club as Claus) as wide man in their 4-3-3 system. There seems to be bit of a problem regarding the transfer from Brann to Bari. Apparantly Brann hasn't been paid the entire sum. A sale of Huseklepp could see some controversials around sell-on clauses and so on.

Regarded a better player than Morten Gamst Pedersen here in Norway.

Is that the type of player he is? From what (limited info) I've seen, he doesn't seem to be an out and out striker. Given that he'd likely cost close to a couple of million, and thus would be assumed to be a first choice, where exactly would we be looking for him to fit in?

I'm struggling to see what role he would play.

That should suit the Skates down to the ground then !

I live in Norway, and have seen him play a lot. Here`s my view:

Huseklepp would IMO be a very good partner for Lambert. He is a pacy and tricky player, with quite a lot of stamina. A bit like Lalllana, only faster (and not quite as skillfull). He used to play as a winger in his early days at Brann, and is often utilized as a right midfielder for Norway. However,he played his best football for Brann in the two seasons before his move to Bari, as a striker. Quite often he played as a lone striker too, with two very attacking CM`s behind him. I think he would offer something new to our side, and be a good signing.

Supposed you could compare him with Guly, but with a better capability of a winger, with a striking option...... Am I making any sense?

He played for my local team, Brann, and seemed to be the next big thing. he did play very well for Brann, but it's hard to judge as the standard isn't great here these days. He's quite quick, doesn't score loads, but does add to the attacking element in the team. I haven't really seen him since he moved to Bari but as he's not had a great time there and pompey would be a risk of more of the same (after 3 months he still hadn't been paid by bari), I reckon he would jump at the chance of playing for Saints. I think he's very keen on coming to Britain.

It's always hard to know how good strikers will be when they move countries, could be brilliant, could be exposed as just doing well in a field of mediocrity.

Saints scout Jakob Friis-Hansen (we think) working his magic again like he may have with Steve De Ridder?

Erik Huseklepp in his youtube "best bits" videos...

video=youtube;aZecqjYv3Us]

p.s. Erik Huseklepp is very good on FM ;)

Great compilation MLG thanks for that.

If he's half as good as these "best of .." clips he'd be a sensation.

Some of his style reminds me ....of the young Mick Channon ....and a lot of MLT..

Sign him up Nigel....if he has to choose between us and the other mob..it's surely a " no-brainer "...even for a Norwegian.

Yes the boy does look good, but most of that (if not all the stuff I watched) seemed to be from his days in Norway several years ago - has he stepped up a gear in Italy or regressed against higher standard opposition?

A couple of points to bear in mind based mainly on the 1st vid -

1/ Probably more of an impact sub at a stage of the game when the TV cameras have us attacking left to right, about 90% of the goals seemed to be like that!! :?

2/ He certainly needs a bit of coaching on his goal celebrations ;)

3/ You could have warned us about the music FFS!! Isn't that the Gypsy Kings? If so this is surely a "come and get me plea" aimed at Skatesmuff fo'sure :scared:

It's not several years ago, he left for Bari at the end of 2010 I think. Bari have been such a mess (loads of manager changes) that I don't think you can draw any conclusions from the last year. He's been a regular in the Norwegian team. definitely worth a punt.

you are to me ..my only question is :

is he still as good as he was in the 2007 video ?

That's a good question! I would say, yes! He's still as good, if not even better as the 2007 video. But!

His club, Brann Bergen, has had a dip of form from 2007 to 2010, when they sold Huseklepp. I think, they relied too heavily on him to carry the team, and it backfired on them. This had a natural impact on Huseklepp, as he was playing under enormous pressure. Anyone, with just a little insight into Norway, knows that Bergen is not the same as Norway :-) I think, he went to Bari, expecting more of the same, and found out that he wasn't as highly rated as in Bergen.

During this period, his performances playing for Norway, has been very good and consistent. This indicates, that as soon as he's not the "star" of the team, he shines and plays fun and entertaining football. This is good news for Saints, as he wouldn't be the "star" per se, rather another cog in a machine consisting of several good players.

Which again is something he's not been used to so far in his career.

There are a few other names currently in Norway, I hope our scouts have noticed.

Thomas Drage of Tromsø IL, 18-year old winger, having his breakthrough season this year.

Mads Stokkelien of Start Kristiansand, another young striker. Had two good years, but is struggling at the moment as Start is in the relegation zone.

Also, Ole-Gunnar Solskjær has taken over as manager of Molde and seems to have succes with young players at the club.

Dunno if it's our Scouts, think it's our Claus freelancing for the club he loves :) He recommended a young Norwegian defender last year didn't he?

GameOf_2Halves Game Of 2 Halves

Erik Huseklepp has signed for Portsmouth from Bari, pending on a successful medical tomorrow.

Also in a Norwegian paper. Reported transfer of around £1.4 mill.

He's a quality player, but as I've said before; there are some question marks around his current shape, as he's been out-of-favour at Bari. There's also the trouble concerning the original transfer from Brann Bergen to Bari. So any bets on how long it takes before Bari gets the entire amount?

Good signing for them, he must be crazy after all he's been through with not being paid. You can't judge him on his time at Bari as they've been in a mess.

He could go either way, be a star or fade when faced with better defenders than he was used to in Norway. Danish saint was pretty spot on about most things, including my home city of Bergen.

Well...he definitely did sign for Pompey as he was there playing at Ashton Gate yesterday!

My mate is a Bristol City fan and asked if I fancied going ...shame it wasn't the best game to watch.

Anyway, the 5mins he was on the pitch was very good indeed. Two excellent dribbles and a cross which just missed Benjani. Not bad for such a short debut.

I hear Pompey will be making a couple more expensive signings before the window closes. They're clearly going all out for promotion and ignoring the finances again. But they get away with it each time so why wouldn't they (assuming no morals).

With their squad I think they may well be top 6.

Why are they "ignoring finances again", I seem to remember they have new owners..are they not allowed to invest in their playing squad?

Obviously signings will have to be ratified by the FL as part of them coming out of admin, and the CVA should be honoured by the new owners and not delayed/posponed again.

Much as we all hate seeing them spend money, I don't think we can complain this time round.
