The following statement has been issued by the Burnley Football Club Board of Directors, following the confirmation of the sale of Jay Rodriguez to Southampton Football Club.

"Burnley Football Club has a renowned tradition of producing talented young players, who have come through our youth system over many years.

"Jay Rodriguez started his career with Burnley at a very young age and, throughout his time here, he has been a great player and excellent ambassador for the football club.

"However, ambitious and talented young footballers want to play in the Premier League and we wish Jay every success in his career.

"His rise in prominence is evidence that here at Turf Moor, the investment in our Youth academy provides a pipeline for players to the first team.

"We have already seen the current youth team achieve tremendous success by reaching the FA Youth Cup semi finals this year, and through the club's ongoing commitment to youth development we hope this will help to produce more players like Jay Rodriguez."

I've seen Lambert easily handled by the bottom clubs of the Championship.

I saw division 3 saints play man U off the park for an hour.

lambert was so poor, he was voted the best player in the whole division and topped the scoring charts and came 3rd in the assist charts.

we also scored the most goals in the division and had one of the best goal differences...cant really say we are too far away from holding our own in the premier league.

please, how have we thrown all our eggs in one basket...we have signed 3 new strikers this year....????

just one question for those who have seen him play - is he quick ? Not Jonno quick obviously but pacey will do !!

He's not got ''out and out'' pace, but he has a nice turn of pace on him. Great on the deck with a lovely touch, great agility and he has terrific movement off the ball. Should be perfect and add more mobility to our front line. He's much more than just a striker, which is why I've always wanted him here.

Great news that's the first one tied up. Welcome to Southampton Jay Rodriguez, here's to a long and prolific partnership with SRL, that will establish us back in the prem this year.

Are RL and Jayrod too alike - on the first glance, they are. Guess we've now got two options to pump longballs into the backpost?!

Do hope we smarten up on the wings...

That'll do for me

That my friend is the power of mobile and social media. In 1980, you would have had to find Yellow Pages, find the number for a news outlet and then find a working public phone... And you would have phoned whom? And what would they have done, broken it on the same news programme on which the news was actually... er broken... :)

An incredible transformation it bring as well.

Great signing of intent by us. Welcome to the club Jay Rod!!

Surprised nobody has bumped up that thread about how much people expect us to spend this summer on players! A few of our most vocal fans on here didn't think it was the clubs "policy" to spend so much on a player..... ;)

adkins likes is forwards.

thats 3 this year alone

He's got a great eye for a striker.

He signed Hooper, Martin Patterson, Sharp first time at Scunny IIRC, Paul Hayes who did v well for them at the time...then got a big move to PNE.

No, but then you didn't arrive with a BT payphone in your pocket.

I didn't need one, there were loads of direct phones in the airline offices where I was going to check the outbound load sheet.Although I had plenty of time I just didn't think it that significant. Saw it on TV that night.

Possibly Sherlock, but neither play as out & out old style number nine. Both seem intelligent footballers with good movement, both pull wide create chances for others & I can see them working well together.

Think people might end up surprised how well a championship Allstars team might do in the top flight.

Ao many players with great potential and ability to step up. Odds are at least 1 of Rodriguez, Sharp and Lambert will score in the top flight regularly.

The bottom half of the Premier League has been quite average for some time. We'll have to get used to the fact that there's 3 or 4 clubs who can genuinely challenge for the title; another 2 or 3 who are a bit further behind, 1 or 2 comfortable top ten clubs and then really not much to choose between the rest. You could argue to argue that, on any given day, a Championship play-offs team would stand up against a bottom half Premier League team. Cherry picking the Championship's best players is a decent transfer strategy.

Would prefer Trippier for RB if I'm honest, but he's staying at Burnley afaik.

Who knows ? Trippier was quoted earlier in the summer as happy at Burnley, not looking to move etc. But with some former team mates here to whisper, tweet, text etc ?

Having said that I doubt Burnley will be keen to lose another player, especially to us.

Bet 'loyal Eddie' regrets "turning us down" now though.

Particularly the young early to mid twenty year old ones who are definitely going to get better.....

Probably be wise though to get a couple of similar age ones but who have been in the prem like Scott Dann and Mark Davies for example.

Agreed. i think we need a little more experience in the spine of the team. Cork and Schneiderlin are great but both only 22, so it would be good to see someone brought in there. And while Fonte & Hooiveld will do a job I'd definitely like to see a CB come in, even if its a signing of the likes of Jaidi when we got him. Chuck in Tom Ince, Matt Jarvis and a new keeper (Butland maybe) and that would be a pretty damn good window.

Will be very interesting to see what happens - could certainly work but both Lambert and Rodriguez drop deep and work well when there are players getting further forward - one reason why Lee was a breath of fresh air and Rodriguez worked well with Austin, another busy, mobile striker. Or think Sheringham, JayRod's role model- and Andy Cole etc etc.

If we play both RL and Jay Rod, it puts more pressure on our flanks to get beyond the strikers (and RM is still our weakspot) and stop defences pushing up - its not like any of our current CMs will.

Yeah, Lynda Block is his mother.

Thank god the plot to shoot him after the cup final got foiled then. No Jay if that had happened.

It's good to see Lynda Block recovered from being mugged off by Prashand though and now owns an underwear manufacturer near Manchester.

Is his dad Luis Amore Rodriguez that used to play for Harchester United?

Turkish, are you relaxed about the polo shirt he was wearing for the signing photo ?

And, anyone know if he was looking at quilted jackets in WEst Quay ? If so, I think we should be told.
