From Fourth Official ( Everton fan):

@Fourth_Official: Mirror claiming Everton want to sign Jay Rodriguez, what what money? always been big interest but can't afford him unless we sell

@Fourth_Official: Plus as the BBC have confirmed Jay Rodriguez as said two days ago is in Southampton finalising a move to Southampton #Saintsfc

Out of interest Derry, what strikers do you think we could go for in the £7m bracket that are more proven? Probably Europe I'd guess..

I don't know about more proven but to put it in perspective, Lambert 1m, Sharp 2m, Lee free .Hooper, Rhodes for a start. There are IMO probably 20 or more out there that could do a job for us below the top silly money bracket.

If location only real doubt jay rod as then hopefully spending weekend down here (if true) will hopefully swing the balance towards us again. Sun is shining as well plus maybe a little site seeing tour by corky and foxy will convince jay rod to sign. Monday we know either way. Cortesi won't **** about, he will want an answer pronto.

Rhodes being quoted at 7m and he is less proven than Rodriguez with a poorer all round game.

Wouldn't it be wise to see how Adkins does first? He could be as good. Might just be swapping one very good manager for another very good manager. They'd need to be a hell of a lot better than Adkins to compensate for the turmoil of starting from scratch.

I also think Moyes is a very good manager and deserves a top job though. Think next season at Everton will be his last to be honest.

It's a totally hypothetical question Adrian FFS. Right now would I swap Moyes for Adkins? Absolutely. I'd swap Moyes for most managers in the premier league with the execption of Ferguson and Wenger probably.

A hypothetical question I didn't start.

I just don't see the point in swapping when a club has a good manager anyway, regardless of whether it's saints or not. Stability is a huge asset. But obviously, if Nigel got hit (ironically) by a bus, and we could have any premiership manager, Moyes would be the best option IMO.

I'm looking forward to seeing how far Adkins can go though. Lambert and Rodgers have taken their opportunity and gone to bigger clubs, but I have a feeling Adkins will stay with us long-term.

So you wouldn't swap Adkins for Moyes. Easy this isn't it. No need to drone on.

Chris Boden from the Burnley Express still adamant the deal will go through, possibly even tomorrow!

bodenknights: @dankiz1 nothing new, expecting things to move on tomorrow, potentially finalised. Jay's camp leaned towards EFC but offer didn't arrive

bodenknights: @Zoggers87 @dankiz1 will take turn of events for it not to go through now I think, think Jay is a future England international, will do well

bodenknights: @dankiz1 felt EFC would be decent fit in terms of being NW, chance of regular football etc, but seemed reluctant to step up interest

bodenknights: @dankiz1 that would be only reason, but was expecting it to be finalised when talks resume tomorrow, EFC would have to be quick

He's just said now

bodenknights: @Zoggers87 Tripps going nowhere just yet, probably early next week announcement on Jay if all goes to plan

Also said to me that JR is big mates with Cork.

Says Nixon usually right with stuff but has always been Everton interest but they need to come up with an offer.

Would be inclined to believe more from boden, that's not just because it's positive either! Tabloids always have an agenda and Nixon seems very keen to ramp up this everton interest - just to generate more interest in the story I'd guess, but you find that there isn't any 'agenda' attached with local papers - they just report what's what and often have closer links to the inside than national papers do.

True. He did tell me that the Everton story didn't come from JRs agent so must be something Nixon has chosen to release at this time. There clearly is a long standing Everton interest but clubs are keen on loads of players. Long and short is we are in talks with the player having had a bid accepted and Boden thinks he will most likely come here, and he rates him very highly as a future England player, thinks 7m is a bargain.

Also rates Cork highly (great attitude) and believed Fox to be the best Championship left back.

err nope, generally they have to sell papers and the more interesting the story, the better. The more twists and turns the more interest it will generate. That's the business.

Local papers don't care for that kind of stuff.

Agree. I listen more to what Chris Boden and Suzanne Geldard (Lancs Telegraph) say more that Nixon.

Another one I also think worth listening to is Samuel Marsden (a freelance journalist in Manchester). He says Nixon used to be spot on when Coyle was boss but ever since Coyle has left, been very hit and miss. He can't see EFC matching our bid and also expects it to go through BY Monday so if not tomorrow then Monday it is.

But we've be told numerous times on here that all journalists are lying scum with an anti saints agenda. Or is this only when it's a negative story?

Nah, they just want to sell papers. Nixon has made a pantomime of this since the start, with the talks of deadlines Sunderland interest, EFC interest etc...Have always been more interested with what the echo/solent guys and Lancashire guys say.

I told you lot all along that he really wanted a NW club but it would seem that Everton simply can't afford him without selling 1st and their priority is to shift Cahill and get Piennar back, or so I'm led to believe.

As far as I knew their priority was Piennar too, Spurs have named a price (around £3.5-4m i think) and they're working on selling to sort that. They simply don't have the cash to hand for that at the mo, let alone Jay. Would take a month or 2 for any everton stuff to happen and I don't think any party wants to delay it that long, it's in Jay's interest to get this sorted before pre-season IMO.

Another genuine agent named Mark Bennett who works for ProStar Sports Management...

danbsfc: @Agent_mb Hi, quick question. You may know nothing about it but... do you know the latest on Jay Rodriguez to Saints at all? Thanks.

Agent_mb: @danbsfc fair as I am aware he was there this weekend having a medical

danbsfc: @Agent_mb Ok thanks. Just a few contrasting reports thats all. Expecting it to be announced next week do you know?

Agent_mb: @danbsfc if he has had a medical then yes some time next week I would have thought

On a side note, just found out one of his clients is Liam Trotter. Might have to ask some questions...

Nineteen Canteen ‏@nineteencanteen @bodenknights @danbsfc if alleged wage demands of £55k pw are true he needs to ground his agent. He either wants to join #saintsfc or not.

Nineteen Canteen ‏@nineteencanteen

@danbsfc @bodenknights has Rodriguez had medical yet? If not, why? Needs a good reason, last thing #saintsfc need is an overpaid prima donna

Nineteen Canteen was that bloke who allegedly was involved in tryng to take saints over about 5 years ago. He used to post on Saints forever with the same name but some clever bugger on SF found out who he was and outed him. His name was something like Tom McLoughlan or something simular. There will be someone on here who will remember him. This Tom Mcloughlan was an Evertonian if my memory serves me correct.

So, what's the latest?

Nineteen Canteen is ranting on twitter, we're just reminding ourselves of some of his aliases from the past.

....oh, but on the Jay Rod front - will probably be announced on Monday morning I'd imagine. That's what everyone's saying.

Until J-Rod signs (or not) I suggest we turn this into a "blasts from the past" thread, where you identify old user names who used to regularly post here.

I'll start with a predictable one, but everyone's favourite WUM, StuRomseySaint.

Indeed they were, he also had one or two other aliases. Good job that doesn't go on any longer.
