Jay Rodriguez - Signs on a 4 Year Deal

Is Rodriguez really worth all this money and drawn out effort?

 Is it really an effort? It's only been drawn out for you because you're probably refreshing your pc every 5 seconds to find out some info. He hasn't missed anything yet has he? We're not half way through the season, pre season training hasn't even started yet and you're asking if he's worth it?

Some people are going to have a very long summer of sitting in front of their computers waiting for news and getting more and more stressed if we haven't signed the best players in the world by the end of June.

tcumner1986: @reluctantnicko Can you just give us some idea as to what news we can expect...positive/negative

reluctantnicko: @tcumner1986 Not sure what category I could put it in. There has been a major development. But nothing final.

That's the one. Just had to look him up. Played about 35 times for S'land, although only 15 starts. Cost £3.5m and was diagnosed with a rare condition of the knee, had 10 ops and then retired completely. Like I said, dodged a bullet. £3.5m would have been a big fee for us back then...

apparantly, his Dad advised him to sign for Sunderland... in preference to Saints.

Jebus. Thats like something the Echo's horoscope writer would produce on a bad day. Guff imo.

What gets me is that he doesn't know what category to put it in? Its either good news or bad news? It can't be both? By the tweet, it sounds like its good news due to the 'but nothing final'. Maybe the terms are all agreed but something to do with an injury found in a medical?

Im clutching at straws.

That's what i see....if it's a major development, then it's either bad news or good news - it can't be a major development if he's stuck in between good news/bad news. He's been waffling tosh for days now.

we had a deadline on Thursday...last week....etc etc. I think he's lost, and he's trying to dig up stuff and clutching to straws.

Know what you mean. Seeing it on the Beeb has given me hope' date=' though. That and his appearance in the West Quay with his fit bird!!![/quote']

Wonder if she's part of the deal? Would explain the hefty price tag I suppose.

It seems location is the only real doubt he has according to northern journo graham cross. He reckons saints are good payers so money should be ok.

Now based on this info could it be he has been given the weekend to think about it and maybe even take a look around the area before deciding sunday/monday?

Good job we are nestled between the New Forest and the Meon Valley then. Not only that but there is an airport only minutes away with 5 flights to Manchester most days.

Location is a really **** poor excuse to use, especially for someone who would be handsomely paid for the 'inconvenience'

You would naturally expect things to develop as they are going at present and it would not surprise me for things to take a couple of weeks, even if he does sign. He's got a firm offer from Saints and will want to exhaust all other avenues before making a decision. Saints won't wait for ever but he will have decent leeway before we start chasing alternatives. Just go back to the Jack Cork deal last year and look at that time scale, things just naturally go into limbo for a short while until it comes to the yes / no.

Certainly this seemed to be the case with Cork last summer and I can recall some posters doing their nut on here because people thought he wasn't going to join, club were taking ages etc etc. I'm not sure this will take as long as a couple of weeks this time around because Saints have a lot more transfer business to do this summer and the deals are inevitably more complex when you are in the PL. I'd imagine they'll look to get it done early next week or move on to other targets in this position although clearly J Rod is their first choice. He's in Soton and all seems to be going well but we'll see what happens. I've moved around so relocating isn't too scary for me but if Jay has only lived in Burnley it's a big call. Overall though, the fact we've wanted him and led the chase plus Fox and Cork are here I think will sway Jay to sign.

The latest Nixon Mirror Update. Can't see Everton getting a bid accepted tbh

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/everton-target-jay-rodriguez-the-burnley-867931

The Burnley striker has spent two days talking to Southampton about a £6.5m move - but now Moyes wants him to link up with Jelavic

Everton boss David Moyes is making a frantic last-gasp bid to sign Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez - and pinch him from under Southampton's noses.

The England Under-21 cap has been with Saints for the past two days, discussing a record £6.5million switch from the Championship Clarets to the Premier League.

However, Moyes has now stepped into the chase.

He wants Rodriguez to stall on a decision and allow him time to try to get the finances together to bring him to Goodison as a partner for Nikica Jelavic.

Rodriguez has just come back from holiday to walk into a transfer tug-of-war.

Southampton have offered him a lucrative deal, but the chance to stay in the north-west with Everton may sway him.

However, Rodriguez will be taking a gamble if he turns down Saints and waits for Everton as Moyes will have to sell before he can buy - and also has Tottenham's Steven Pienaar as a 'priority' capture.

Moyes' late move will be a pain for Southampton chief Nigel Adkins, who has put a lot of time and effort into Rodriguez.

The Everton entry into the race may also be bad news for Burnley, as Moyes is expected to offer less than Southampton have put on the table.

Rodriguez has just a year left on his contract and will have a fair amount of say in where he goes.

reluctantnicko: @danbsfc Everton thing complicates it. If player wants to go there then he can force price down. Big gamble though ...

reluctantnicko: @danbsfc Everton are in ... and the player knows it. They need another striker. And they must expect to be getting money in.

Tweeting Chris Boden at the Burnley Express. He has said since the last week or so that he expects it to go through this Sunday/Monday.

danbsfc: @LT_Suzanne @bodenknights Heard anything re this? http://t.co/DPUiAEvV Just can't see it tbh. Expect Jay to sign for Saints next week?

bodenknights: @danbsfc was expecting it to go through this weekend to be honest, Everton had been believed his preference but maybe too late

If Everton are serious, offer the cash and are given permission to speak, then it's over.

I'm not quite sure they can afford another £7m though. They had to do alot of wheeling and dealing in January to just get the funds for Jelavic.

He'd probably even accept less wages to join them....and if anything, this is your typical agent/selling club plant in order to rush the deal through as it's been dragging for a while.

Next week will be interesting.
