Jay Rodriguez - Signs on a 4 Year Deal

Probably mentioned by others before, but surely if he went on holiday before the bid was made, he would probably have left from Manchester airport and therefore likely to arrive back there.

Not that it really makes a huge amount of difference.

Fair point. Just checked, 1 is due tomorrow at 7:30 in the morning at Manchester Airport. This ties in with the reports from the Burnley express about him returning tomorrow.

FFS are people seriously checking when flights are arriving?! Stop stalking the lad FFS!

Im only interested to see which journalist is correct so that we can discount any rumours / reports from them in the future. Its hardly as if I'm on my way up to the arrivals lounge to follow them around is it?

Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez is expected to snub Sunderland and Aston Villa and seal a switch to Southampton.

The newly-promoted Saints have had a £7million bid accepted for the former England U-21 striker, who hit 21 goals in the Championship last season.

Sunderland are also showing an interest and new Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is a long-time admirer of the 22-year-old.

But talkSPORT understands that Rodriguez will sign a four-year deal with Nigel Adkins' side in the next 48 hours, subject to a successful medical.

Rodriguez came through the youth ranks at Burnley and, since making his debut in 2007, has hit 41 goals in 128 appearances.

Similar to the point I was getting at.

If he loves the north that much, can't he just move back up there in 10 / 12 or so years time when his career is over. But whilst he's in football, he needs to progress and I think that Burnley to Saints (Mid table Champ to Prem) is quite a progression that I don't think even I'd turn down. This could be a big stepping stone in his career. Whilst here, he COULD bang in 15 - 20 goals for the next couple of seasons, potential Eng call up, move to a big club possibly further back up north on more money etc etc.

Even with the rose tinted glasses on, I think the potential move to us is a massive chance / opportunity in his career that he can't possibly pass up.

I think it's more to do with families happiness than their own when players move based on location.

It's more telling that they've said nothing. The last time there were articles popping up all other place, the Burnley chairman came out and confirmed there were no bids. this Time, nothing.

Seriously, there has been a bid accepted. Don't bother wasting your time thinking there hasn't been!

The BBC have said so, sky have so, BBC Radio solent have said so, the daily echo have said so,. the Lancashire telegraph have said so. It's just up to him now.

The thing about this is, where is the source of the report? Their club (possibly putting him on the market)? His agent (most likely). SFC? (most unlikely).

Listing several news media isn't relevant because they all talk to the same source(s).

I'm not disputing that all those people have been told there has been a bid and it has been accepted, but it could be:

a) an agent stating they operate for SFC

b) SFC

c) his agent saying that SFC are willing to pay x and Burnley agreeing.

We heard about all these bids confidently during January and none of it was ever proven. (I'm not questioning your integrity you understand).

Just seen this and a news channel quoting a time is more newsworthy!! Otherwise they will look complete imbeciles (which TalkSPORT are, but don't like to admit it)... :)

Erm, has he? Wasn't he the one banging on about Nicky Maynard?

Yes - basically he is just across lots of news and twitter feeds, makes some good guesses based on available info and wins some, loses some. I certainly wouldn't take it as fact, but of course, it could well be true which is why he has said it.

If it doesn't happen, and someone challenges him, he will just get defensive and point to stuff he has got right.

pretty much ties in with other reports and rumours. he has been known to be right in the past on saints transfers.

They (there are 2 of them) are a bit hit and miss, and do largely pass on rumours. However, one of them (at least) knows Danny Fox as they were at the same school.

At one point Danny was their profile pic (just prior to his transfer to us if memory serves me well).

Record breaking signing in early June?

Should have been wrapped up a month ago, the delay will surely cost us. He simply won't have time to settle in before....mid-August.

Personally I'm more worried about all the other targets we've clearly missed out on after going on this wild goose chase for so long.

Lol.

I'm not alone then. This should delight all those posters who say we don't move fast enough? :-)

To be fair, Nicko has been reporting snippets as he has heard them on National basis, SL is the local Adam Leitch so closer to action! Good news if he passes medical, terms must have been agreed first!

To be honest, I don't think it would've got to the medical stage without him saying Yes I want to join Southampton and Yes I am happy with the contract offered. Gonna be a long day ahead!!
