Jay Rodriguez - Signs on a 4 Year Deal

How does that work? He doesn't want leave lancs? Or that he might consider everton but not the midlands or down south?

This is all I know. He is adamant that he doesn't want to leave the area and his family (apparently they are very close) so he really wants a club where he can commute. I've been saying this since I was told last year & as far as I know that hasn't changed.

However, my Burnley oppo reckons that we may have offered a deal that includes stuff for his family/girlfriend in Soton.

He's only a young lad remember and I believe Sunderland did similar when Wickham went north.

I know it sounds stupid but he really needs to decide whether he wants a real crack at becoming a professional footballer and be prepared to move around the country and potentially Europe or be happy to sit in the North for another 10 years and regret missed opportunities when he eventually retires.

Moving and relocating is all part of the job. No different from Brendan Rogers going from Wales to Liverpool in a day.

He's just a nipper with a close family and it's not as if we are the only offer he will get.

I agree to a certain extent but the North-West is hardly a footballing outpost.

Yeah I agree but not meaning to be harsh to the lad, I think he needs to start getting on with it and realising he can move back to the north once his playing days are over if he wants.

Its no different to me being a Southern lad but if part of my career and job required me to move up north, I'd give it a go and theres always the option of moving back when its over.

Just look how much Billy Sharp is enjoying life on the South Coast with the sun, sea etc!

Within a top professional career you can't let 250 miles dictate major choices. I would have thought the fact that Adkins clearly wants him and has been after him a while must count for a lot, plus obviously money. We would hardly be likely to offer 7m to Burnley and then offer JR peanuts.

Professional footballers like having their egos massaged and Adkins long term pursuit of him won't have gone unnoticed. If he really really wouldn't like to move south then his agent would have indicated so a year ago and we would have moved on. There is obviously a chance he wants to come, and don't forget Cork and Fox could have a role to play.

But in his position, he might as well wait and see what else materialises...so it's up to Saints to make him sign by making the club as attractive as possible, which I am sure they are doing.

Exactly the point I've been trying to get across.

Sorry to say, but from the outset of recent news that we have had a bid accepted, I've doubted that this would end up with JR actually signing for us.

Lets remember that all this came into public domain c/o a journalist , Nixon. Where did he get his info from ? Saints play transfer dealings close to their chest, not sure if Burnley have publicly stated anything prior to Nixon's piece, so the most likely source is JR's agent. Probably for the sole purpose of giving a warning to other remotely interested clubs.

Hope I'm wrong.

Agree with Patred as below.

I have a feeling this dealing is stalling, I hope we have kept up our interest in Hooper, just in case

Just a feeling in my bones that he is waiting to see if there are other offers.

Paul Lambert, who is an admirer of Rodriquez is about to have a few million to spend on restoring Villa's fortunes.

Rodriquez knows this will be his biggest career decision, although he is on the other side of the Atlantic, he is not out of touch with what's going on.

He has not even commented that our bid interests him.

My worry is that we could be gazzumped, or the player himself rejects our offer.

Plan B, Hooper, may be gone if we wait too long

Don't take a lack of immediate resolution as a sign that he won't come.

There was a massive time lapse between us announcing we'd had a bid accepted for Cork last year and him actually signing.

I prefer Hooper if we can get him...far better all round player

I disagree. Didn't someone say that the majority of his goals were from the 6 yard box?

Hooper may be a better finisher or whatever, but all-round play is not his greatest strength. Rodriguez is better for that.

Someone else has come in with a bid that now matches ours.

Alan Nixon on twitter, he's trying to find out who at the moment.

Looks like we didn't sort it out y/day

if he turns us down...will provide a bit of a reality check to a few I reckon....may stop once and for all the utter nonsense about us being being bigger than everton etc

Only going on all the conjecture on here but if it is true that he is unsure about moving here because it is 250 miles away, you really do have to question whether he is the right player for us. He does look like he has some potential, but I'm not really sure about this one and wouldn't be gutted if we looked elsewhere.

We might well be, how many clubs can offer him regular Premier League starts and are in a financial position to match Saints' bid?

Well, quite a few actually.

And he doesn't need to sign for "many" clubs. Just one. As soon as another club comes in he can start choosing. That may be happening now.

I imagine negotiations between JRod and his agent are something like this:

Do you want to play for saints if no other prem clubs want you?

Oh Yes, definitely.

Do you want to play for saints if any lower prem clubs want you?

Hmmm, depends who it is.

Do you want to play for saints if bigger, top half clubs want you?

No.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's just waiting for club x who have told his agent they want him.

We're the ugly reliable girl hoping that our better looking rival is a flake.

Welcome back to reality.

Whilst we were the prettiest girl in league 1, one of the prettiest in the champ now we're just plain Jane or even frumpy Fiona in the prem.

That's life.

What if Cortese's willing to invest a boob job and face lift?

Alan Nixon is a shareholder in Proactive Management, set up by Wayne Rooney's agent Paul Stretford (Stretford has since left Proactive to form another agency).

Because he is a shareholder in a football agency and thus could be said to have a vested interest in planting stories, a lot of papers don't trust or use him.

It would be interesting to know who Rodriguez's agent is.

I think his agent is Ade Akinbyi.

Also there is a rumour that Fallani (sp) is leaving Everton,to make way for Rodriguez perhaps?
