Jay Rodriguez - Signs on a 4 Year Deal

I think it more likely Lambert will go for Holt than Rodriguez especially as today he has told them he wants to leave as well.

I would not think that Holt would follow Lambert, as it was him he originally fell out with at Norwich.

I don't think it's stalling at all! The player is away - half the football world is on holiday at the moment, which is why so few signings get done in late May or early June.

Correct.

The Chairman of Swansea was on talksport earlier today. Was asked about Sigurdsson & said the the clubs had agreed a fee, but that he was on holiday. He said "he has gone away to Europe on holiday and that has delayed the finalising of it".

The funny thing was that Alan Brazil an ex pro just accepted that, did not waffle on about "why can't he fly in, sign and then go back on holiday".

Prepared to bet a few of those fine English pounds that Holt is hacked off about what he is paid. Anything else said/ implied is a smokescreen of cr&p, so if Lambert gets the Villa job and wants him, Holt will be off ASAP.

you are correct...a local journo from norwich said as such on the radio last week

Holt is still on his NPC level of cash and is far from the highest paid at norwich...after the season he has had, he apparently asked for a renegotiation and norwich said no.

both Morrison and james vaughan are on considerably more than holt (apparently)

Everyone saying Adkins would never get offered the Liverpool job, wonder what they're saying after the most recent round of managerial and player merry-go rounds. :? Frankly the prem scares me, bigger clubs trying to compete seem to fire their managers on a regular basis and swap them in for the young talented name of the day. Poor Norwich, can you imagine if we lost Adkins and Lambo? I'd go absolutely spare.

What's the big rush? Let the bloke come back off holiday, have the long weekend off and start/resume talks next week. It's June FFS, not late august. He, unlike most of the deals already being confirmed, isn't off to the European Championships, so there's no danger of his price going up.

Patience is a virtue. Also, do people really think he'll have medical within hours of stepping off a plane after a 10 hours flight from Mexico?

Exactly - remember the Jack Cork deal last year.

Just a feeling in my bones that he is waiting to see if there are other offers.

Paul Lambert, who is an admirer of Rodriquez is about to have a few million to spend on restoring Villa's fortunes.

Rodriquez knows this will be his biggest career decision, although he is on the other side of the Atlantic, he is not out of touch with what's going on.

He has not even commented that our bid interests him.

My worry is that we could be gazzumped, or the player himself rejects our offer.

Plan B, Hooper, may be gone if we wait too long

Jesus Christ Pat!!! the lad isn't in the country to sign the deal even if he was chomping at the bit too!!! Which he may well be for all we know.

Surely if our "exclusive" deadline was tonight then surely Jay Rod has to be in country as it is would be part of the deal to get it wrapped up and signed before anyone else gets the chance otherwise there is no point of the "exclusivity period"?

If he isn't here and we agree a deal in principle, theres nothing to stop another club bidding for him tomorrow and him signing for them when he "returns" next week. As above, pointless exclusivity deal if he can't sign during our exclusivity period?

Seems strange to have deadline when lad supposedly out of country. Kind of out of our hands I guess and reliant on agent. Sure nige would ideally like to do it face to face to show of stadium and training ground plans and talk about the southampton way.

you actually believe players listen tothat...?

I'm sure he has seen the ground

I'm sure the other prem team rumoured to be interested...everton and newcastle for example have pretty darn good training establishments

it will come down to ££££ and will he think we are relegation fodder

Ask Alan Nixon about this pertinent observation, see what he says.

Assuming you're right, maybe he would have flown back if he was interested.

Nixon seems to think there may have been interference, and that Jay Rodriguez will let the other clubs come in and drag it out. Exactly how I thought it would pan out tbh.

It will be a long wait.

lets be honest....you would at this stage...with other clubs, probably better clubs right now want you...may as well see what they have to say

Well, yep. Just makes a mockery of this so called exclusivity thingy.

what exclusivity.....is it something standard..is it something Burnley did as we were the only bidder..?

does it matter..?

as for sector...he probably means bottom 8 teams....I know that flies in the face of how we are going to crack the league..but in reality, that is not the case

Only 5 pages longer than the Charlie Austin thread.... http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?27307-Austin-Transfer-Rumours/page19&highlight=austin

I've got a contact with someone fairly high up on the Swindon board and I have been reliably informed we have had a bid accepted for Charlie Austin.

Don't have any further details or how much the fee is etc.

I think we will get him in the end, but it'll play out similar to the Jack Cork deal. I'm pretty sure he was very keen to stay in the area of England he was in, but in the end no one else came in with an offer that was better than ours - so he had no real choice in the end. It'll come down to money and location at the end of the day, and you have to say that if clubs like Villa do bid then we're out.

And game time - something we can offer and out compete some of the bigger teams on.

If or when he gets an offer from AN Other, which means he doesn't have to move away, we are out of the game.

He has reiterated that he really doesn't want to move despite all of our courting, which I've been told has impressed all at Turf Moor as has our professionalism.

It may all ride on what we offer his girlfriend / family in terms of relocation.

I'd class Everton and Villa as much bigger clubs than us, and I'd fancy his chances of being a regular in both of those teams.

Not so sure. Everton play 4-5-1 and Jelavic is a clear starter at the moment.

Its hard to say with Villa as I can see the new manager bringing Holt in and they already have the likes of Bent and Agbonlahor.

If this can't be sorted quickly, may be best to move on rather than drag it out and let it turn into a battle with other sides. With nonsense like the Euros and Olympics this summer it may take longer to get some deals done.

Also, Alan Nixon reckons the club are looking to spend 20-25m this summer.

How does that work? He doesn't want leave lancs? Or that he might consider everton but not the midlands or down south?

Struggling to think of many domestic players where geography has been an issue -or at least it wasn't quickly overcome.
