Jay Rodriguez - Signs on a 4 Year Deal

Just to bring this thread back to some kind of topic, I've been having a browse on Alan Nixon's twitter feed from today. Some quite revaling stuff.

The jist of it is that we will have a decision tomorrow, one way or another. Other clubs are in the background but won't move until our deal falls through, as they know they cannot match the financial offer we've made to Burnley.

Will be an interesting next 24 hours, and for what it's worth I don't believe Rodriguez is in Southampton. His agent will be doing all the talking, who is oddly, Ade Akinbyi

Or alternatively, look at what Dave Whelan actually said.

Or alternatively read/listen to what he said prior to those back tracking comments

"There is talk of him going to West Brom and talk of him going to Aston Villa but I don’t think he will go anywhere like that. There is much, much bigger clubs than Aston Villa and West Brom about"

Naturally he is talking about the top teams i.e Man Utd,Man City,Chelsea,Spurs,Arsenal,Liverpool etc as the "bigger teams". So if Villa are not one of those teams then how many "big clubs" are there??

If Roberto is to go anywhere, it will be to one of the top clubs in Europe.''

Bored with this.

Reckon he wont agree personal terms anyway.

Hopefully this a cover for NC's real transfer activity.

Zzzzzzzz....

The irony you finding something boring is well, very ironic.

If you find it boring just glance over the thread, find it boring, and then ignore it. Half the crap on here i dont care about, so i briefly look at it then go on to something that is more interesting to read. (porn, probably)

Anyway I digress, apart from you piping up to let people know you dont find a topic interesting, you also raise a point about jay rod not agreeing personal terms, ie: wages? Then say this is hopefully a cover for the REAL transfer activity?

...Those two points just dont add up.

Youre suggesting that in your 2nd point jay rodriguez isnt good enough for us... Whilst before that stating you think his wages will be an issue?! What player will with that logic be good enough for us, whilst having in your eyes reasonable terms in their contract?! (david connolly is going on a free i guess?)

David Connolly is not being retained, so has no contract after July 1st for us to be able to command a transfer fee for.

The rest of it... you may as well save your fingers the effort.

Best contribution to this thread.

It's getting downright stupid, are we seriously now arguing over where in Mexico he is? Wait for the official confirmation either way for God's sake.

i agree.

all this waffling is tiresome! until it's on the OS, why speculate ?

Mexico is a fairly big country after all

So there you have it. Two different interviews with two different quotes. One saying they are "fantastic" and the other on talk sport radio saying that they are not big enough club for him to manage at. Which as I said above means he thinks Villa are not in the "Top bracket" of clubs in the league for him to manage at. Otherwise why would he mention that they are not big enough?

The question then becomes what bracket are they?

@dazbentleybfc. He said it last night.

You mean this?

dazbentleybfc: Once again, re Jay: Once there is something to report it will be announced @BurnleyOfficial

There is no club statement imminent.

?

Also, his flight lands tomorrow morning:

Good spot! Straight from Gatwick to Southampton to meet with agent and discuss the deal. He then says yes or no ready for medical to potentially take place next week.

Seems Nixon was right then about a decision needing to be made by tomorrow.night. Gives time to arrange medical for early next week and sign on Monday/Tuesday. Sounds good to me!

Would he definitely be landing at Gatwick? He comes from the North West after all.

I don't know a lot about who goes what and where from/to when it comes to airports.

Just wondered.

He could be landing at Birmingham International, as there's a flight from Cancun landing tomorrow morning there too.

If what @reluctantnicko said on twitter is true about the whole situation being resolved tomorrow, then I can't see him not being in the country to conclude the deal, so maybe he'll fly in, do the medical, sign and then fly back to Cancun...it's possible.

I expect his agent has already sorted out the deal with us and that we need JRod in for his medical and final signature before he can fly back to Mexico.

What's 48 hours away from your holiday when you can come back with a good 500k in your back pocket as players get a percentage of the transfer fee.

What you're implying is that they have mobile phones in Mexico. Strange.

Christ, give the guy a break!

I mean, success was so last season. That party finished like what, weeks ago? Get over it, we're obviously doomed to fail in the Premiership (that one's for you The9) now that Eden Hazard has chosen Chelsea over us. J Rod, who's he anyway? Spunking £7mil on him leaving no more than two brass farthings to rub together to strengthen the rest of the squad is just plain idiocy. A guy's allowed to get depressed whenever he wants, why wait until we've lost the first five games on the trot?

Saints don't normally buy players at this time of the season. Usually, it is a last minute panicky thing. I reckon this deal was done at the start of last season. We probably agreed to buy him and then allowed Burnley to retain him for one last season on order for us to clinch the deal. I think we can be pretty sure he is joining us.

It's nice to know people are now consciously aware they are using the wrong name for the League, so thanks!

Good appraisal of alpine's comments too.

We're in June! Theres no rush, he can enjoy his holiday and come back and complete the deal if he wants to sign.

That's the attitude that's going to cost us Sigurdsson.

That and him wanting to play for the club he was on loan at last season / possibly the manager he was with last season...

I have a feeling this dealing is stalling, I hope we have kept up our interest in Hooper, just in case

I don't think it's stalling at all! The player is away - half the football world is on holiday at the moment, which is why so few signings get done in late May or early June.

As for Hooper, while I would like him to join, I suspect NA has given up on him. Hooper and his Dad (his agent) know full well we want him, have done so for months and have had plenty of chance to respond positively. They have not done so, so

that one looks dead

Based on what Pat...he doesnt get back until Monday allegedly?

How can it stall if he hasn't even had a medical or even met him yet?

Just a feeling in my bones that he is waiting to see if there are other offers.

Paul Lambert, who is an admirer of Rodriquez is about to have a few million to spend on restoring Villa's fortunes.

Rodriquez knows this will be his biggest career decision, although he is on the other side of the Atlantic, he is not out of touch with what's going on.

He has not even commented that our bid interests him.

My worry is that we could be gazzumped, or the player himself rejects our offer.

Plan B, Hooper, may be gone if we wait too long

Your view has no substance if you continue to use a Q in his name.

I think it more likely Lambert will go for Holt than Rodriguez especially as today he has told them he wants to leave as well.
