i bet they are

I'm willing to bet you a VERY, VERY large amount of money they aren't.

Everton are nearly broke. They could find £6m for a striker, but only by selling off a present player or two and cutting payroll.

They are nowhere near making £6m (net) bids. Absolutely nowhere near.

I have no problem with signing Jay Rod but think the price is a little high. Would have prefered a lower price with add ons plus Chaplow than £6.5 plus add ons plus Chaplow. Maybe £1.5m too much

You may be right

But very same thing were said about west ham last summer and everyone in January

Rubbish. Connor Wickham to Sunderland for £10m. Steve Fletcher from Burnley to Wolves for £6.5m. Shane Long £7m. Yes you can get foreigners cheaper but if you want English talent it costs that sort of money.

6.5 milllion up front for a championship player in last year of his contract is a lot of money and imo too high of a price.

Surely that just proves clubs in the PL end up paying over the odds. Neither Shrap nor Lambert cost us that much and both out scored J rod last season playing the same level of football. I wonder how much Sharp and Lambert would cost us now...I bet we'd have to pay more than we did for them now were in the PL.

Jay Rodriguez update. As of now, neither fee or terms have been agreed with #saintsfc. Other PL teams also in mix.

Bang goes the optimism! Hope we can still pull this off.

How much did we pay for Billy? 2 Million? for 6.5 plus add ons I would expect a proven PL player (not one of the big names but at least someone with a couple of seasons in the PL under their belt)

From Burnley's "Jordan Sibley" - Darren Bentley.

@dazbentleybfc: re Jay tweets, currently trying to speak to the people that matter, who are all away on club duty. Once I do, will of course provide update.

its just agents getting interest going. Notice it says other PL clubs in the mix. If a player takes time to sign and has difficulty making his mind up on us, they usually fail. Aka Skatchel and Kevin Phillips.

Deal back on! Alan Nixon has just tweeted that fee has been agreed & terms are being sorted. Which journo to believe??? I'll go with Nicko because a) he got the Sharp deal right & b) he's saying what I want to hear...

Didn't say no then... More a 'I'll see what I'm allowed to say at this time!'

Yep. If there was nothing in it, he'd write it straight off as a no goer like the other day when he tweeted no bids had been received YET. This seems much more cautious and needs to consult with higher up and find out the full story before saying a thing.

I've got a funny feeling that he'll go elsewhere and we're being used. Hope not. Excellent player.

And there we go. IMO, this just stinks of Saints.

@dazbentleybfc: I appreciate all eager for news but following discussions with CEO, club will not be commenting on any speculation, esp on Jay Rodriguez

It feels weird to be trying to sign a player that our fans would actually be happy to see here, we've usually managed to write the player off as being sh*t before the deal is even done.

Couldn't disagree with you more, JR is a VERY bright prospect and will very soon if not straight away be one of the most important players at our club (if he signs). Try to remember he's still in his very early twenties & already has a very rounded game.

Let's face it most of us thought 12-15 mill for one of our brightest ever stars was a fair price.

You know how sometimes YouTube compilations of players scoring goals and playing well in general can sometimes make a player look better than he actually is? Well this kind of puts me off bringing him in ;) http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=GB#/watch?v=vhhTrQLuts4

Link should be Jay Rodriguez AMAZING penalty miss Forest v Burnley. But doesn't seem to work at the moment as I've cut and paste the link from.my mobile. I'll edit it later.

Personal terms will have be agreed, often the stumbling block.

If we're willing to pay 7m for him, I think we should be able to agree terms. I can't see terms scuppering this deal if I'm honest.

Posted

I'm lukewarm on this at the minute.. I can't help but feel we've just put a marker down... over to his preferred clubs now (if Burnley fans are to be believed).

We must have a decent transfer fund, 7m on an striker who hasn't played top flight football is a hell of a risk if its a large potion of the fund. Yeah we know he is decent in the championship, but if he flops its a large amount of money to be invested on one position if other postions need strengthening too.

Just the average price hike(about 150£ I guess) on STs will bring in about an extra £2 million or so, double that because matchday prices will go up as well and you've got over half of a £7 million fee already.

Do the Burneley Fans rate him?

From their forum...

"Well I happen to think he will be a complete centre forward in a couple of years time.

Will take time to settle but a far better player than Steven Fletcher and look what we got for him.

We're in another tricky position selling our prize asset but needing the ready cash."

A mate of mine up north is a Burnley fan and really rates him. Scored all those goals this season despite playing in a team which created very little. Scores all types of goals and very adaptable. Can play up front on his own, as a target man or wide left/right in a front 3. Bit of pace and a good finisher. Great signing.

Surely shows Adkins must be staying if we're backing him with proper cash? Good stuff.
One would hope so, but it might equally be one of - sharp intake of breath - Sven or someone's first signings? Really hope it has Adkins' fingerprints on it.

Doesn't categorically say he IS staying though. 'Still' and 'want to' being the key phrases here.

The Lancashire Telegraph, says JR is out of the country, probably on holiday,so this is far from a done deal. Also if a northern premier league come in for him, surely we will have a massive job persuading him to come South.

As an asside,as Dog alluded to,he was absolutely awful at St Marys this season and did only touch the ball a few times in the game.

If there was anything in it he wouldn't have commented though would he ?

As stated above he is one of the few midfield players we have who has PL experience, I would be amazed if he leaves.

As for him not wanting to move down south let's not forget he's already got mates in Danny Fox & Jack Cork who he will know very well so it's not like he ain't gonna know anybody.
