JR has always said he doesn't want to move from the NW. He told the club, our club, his agent & the players at Burnley that.

Extremely unambitious if true. I can't imagine a pro footballer refusing to travel a few hundred miles down the road when offered Premiership football and double the wages. A player who says he doesn't want to leave his cosy little area really makes them out to be a bit feeble minded, not sure we need those kind of wimps in the team.

MLT was a right wimp

Yeah he was actually.

Not really the same though is it. J Rod seems happy to go to another team as long as it's in the NW, looks like he's letting his contract run down as well as there's only one year left so he might actually be doing it to line his own pockets.

Exactly, we live on a relatively small Island FFS.

Never seen a quote from JR saying he wants to remain in NW. It is simply down to burnley agreeing deal with a club at which point you will find the transfer will be concluded very quickly. JR wants to better himself by playing in prem however he is a local lad so won't force the issue with burnley and will wait if need be. However burnley can't afford to lose him for next to nothing next year so will need to cash in but are understandably holding out for highest bidder. Burnley will let it drag on for a while but will be mindful they need cash to reinvest in their squad so don't expect it to drag out until aug. It will be us everton or newcastle who will sign him imo.

Newcastle pretty well sorted for strikers surely? Everton are broke - well, maybe not broke, but certainly not able to splash another £6m+ on a striker.

He's very much a home boy. He's never lived away from home and doesn't want to leave the area. He's Burnley through & through.

That said, if it's the only top flight move on offer....

If Jay-Rod is used to travelling to football training on a tram thorough cobbled streets with his fellow passengers hunched in old coats, wrapped in scarves and with caps pulled low, why would he want to leave his homely mill town to live in a leafy Hampshire with its unhealthy sunshine where there isn't enough rain for footballers to use a hose pipe to wash the 4x4.

I think 'not wanting to leave the NW' really means, 'not wanting to leave the NW.... unless you give me lots and lots and lots of money.'

In the world of broadband, skype and email I can't believe anyone would sabotage their career for the sake of moving 4 hours down the motorway. I love stereotyping Northerners as much as the next man, but they don't all go round grandma's house for a nice home made hot pot every night.

If Jay Rod doesn't want to leave the NW he can look forward to a career of 2nd tier mediocrity at Burnley.

I doubt this is true though, and if the deal is right he'll leave for whoever.

It's a shame the North West of England is so bereft of top flight football clubs.

Obviously a little more difficult to do things on the quiet in the premier league, Nicola. Or even to not do things. Either way, we're in the papers.

The bloke who wrote that article is also on twitter, it's more than 6.5m - that's just the up front fee. We've also apparently offered mega dosh to Jay.

People might look at it and say it's an obscene amount of money, but in the grand scheme of things these days - it isn't. And we're buying a future England international centre forward in my opinion.

It's not really obscene when you consider we're getting a young prospect who has the potential to play for England and as a club are now rolling in the 'megabucks' of the Premier League.

From what I've seen, and his stats, he seems like a decent prospect. Good start to the season's business IMO.

When you consider Connor Wickham cost Sunderland £8m possibly up to £12m with add ons £6.5m is a good deal.

Still a bit sceptical about this. He seems from previous comments to be keen on staying in the North. If somebody like Everton or Newcastle also enter the fray, we may have a battle on to seal the deal.

That might well be true. People said the same about Billy Sharp wanting to stay up north too though.

Really hope this is true. £6.5m plus a couple of add ons would be a decent price. If he scores a dosen goals in the Premier League teams like Spuds and Liverpool will start chucking silly money at him. If he proves his worth over the season he will triple his price.

Lets not get too excited, it is the Mirror saying this after all.

If Chaplow is on his way back home though, that would imply that as well as a Striker we still need:

Another Goalkeeper

A new central midfielder

Well according to the journo on twitter, no one will top our offer. ''Huge'' offer and £6.5m is only the start of it apparently.

If he wants to play for England he'll need to leave Burnley, no disrespect to them...but he'll have to show some ambition and make the break.

I'd have said our targets from day 1 have been:

GK,

CB

CM

ST

and RW

Losing chappers doesn't change that, so it's possible he's on the fringes anyway.

Agree regarding the need for a new winger.

Makes sense to have 4 central midfielders battling to start. Hammond, Cork, Schneiderlin and ............... If Chaplow is not part of the picture we need another, I don't believe Hamster can make the step up and Ward-Prowse isn't ready for the first team.

A new centre back, also a good plan. Give Fonte and Jos some real competition.

*IF* the rumours have been true we've been after a CM anyway, what with our interest in that Spanish midfielder.

and to be fair, Hammond should get his crack. A fair few people said he wouldn't make the step up to the championship, but he did bloody well.

Really dont think we will see much more of Hammond. That sounds harsh, but as well as he did last season, he aint a Premiership player

According to the Journo twitter, we never had a bid accepted last year. We went in with a couple but they wanted a bit more each time, this is the most progress we've made.

And please let us get rid of that flaming Delap transfer record.

Check out his goals. He's got a bit of everything.

Crikey, I know it's a YouTube "best of", but they were some finishes in there! Nice to see some fox and cork assists... It might not be the northwest, but we've a little pocket of Lancashire here for him!

Posted

I hope we've got a lot of cash because much as I'd like Rodriguez to sign, strikers and scoring goals are not where our weaknesses are. CB, RM, CM and GK are higher priorities.

You'd think the local journo's have a few closer sources, so the fact that they brought this out first and are now confirming it kind of adds a bit more weight to it.

So if he is on holiday, it's not something that will go through in the next day or so

I fear this will rumble on until the weekend , then go quiet over the bank holiday. Sod's law he'll join some other bastards next week.

One journo I asked still thinks he would prefer a NW team (Everton) but we must have been given encouragement from his camp to bother chasing him for so long.
