Jay Rodriguez - Signs on a 4 Year Deal

To be honest, I can see both arriving. Lambert won't be here forever and Rodriguez is the closest possible likewise that there is out there and the only realistic one IMO and if we can get him in now, he can bed in and learn off of Rickie and become an "apprentice" next season in one of the toughest leagues in the world. no better place to learn. He can hold the ball up, link play and has a great shot on him. Also he knows where the net is at the current level. Hooper is another step up on Sharp and it is important we get someone in like this as I can see Barnard and Connolly moving on next season so 2 out, 2 in and this will leave us with 4 good options - Lambert, Rodriguez, Sharp, Hooper (5 including Guly). this is more than good enough for Premier League survival.
You forgot Chung.

You forgot Tadanari Lee.

Plus Cortese/Liebherr's are looking for much more than merely surviving in the Premier League.

Great signing if we go up (and assuming we lose Connolly and/or Barnard).

I think they wanted £6m for him last time out?

He'll go for about half that now.

Sharp was turned down at £3m, but we got him for £1.8m a few months later.

You wonder who runs the finances of football clubs like Doncaster and Burnley.

It's not just the skates who are innumerate and insane.

Been following jayrod a little bit after all the speculation during the window.

Have to say, he looks like a quality striker scoring different types of goals.

For his age too, this guy looks very, very decent.

If we got him or/and say hooper (too), I would have no hesitation in saying Cortese is going for a top half finish.

Agree.

I think he's the nuts.

I'm just amazed that Burnley would rather get £3m in July than £6m in the previous window.

Hooper might just be a "not selling" issue.

JRod isn't.

Doncaster didn't turn down £3m for Sharp. Sharp himself said no to the move at that time.

Breaking from The Echo...

Saints have reportedly offered in excess of £6m for Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez.

Nigel Adkins failed in his pursuit to sign the highly-rated forward during last summer's transfer window, but it appears the club have now gone back in for the 22-year-old as they look to strengthen the squad for their Premier League return.

The Clarets are ideally hoping to receive £8m for the player, who has one year left to run on his contract, but are said to be mulling over the offer from Saints.

Sharp didn't want to move with his partner going through a difficult pregnancy and with hindsight it was a sensible idea.

JR has always said he doesn't want to move from the NW. He told the club, our club, his agent & the players at Burnley that.

Maybe our re-hashed interest in Jay Rod is a lever to force another deal through, for instance Hooper? If we're aware the boy doesn't really want to move from the NW but we've had a previous strong interest, it would be an easy association to make, so another club believes we could lose our interest in their player. Or more straw clutching from me? :D

It's obviously not pure guess work.

I do like the way that on here all journalists are liars and all club spokemen are the paragons of absolute truth.

Let's see what happens but the one thing I am very comfortable is that story from the Lancs paper is not just made up out of nothing.

Probably just agents stirring the pot.

wikipedia says 'Rodriguez is now a part of Cardiff City's ranks after the transfer of £5.5million was completed today.'

Seems like wikipedia knew before the clubs even knew. Crazy.

You can easily go and amend it to say he is an Eastleigh FC player if you like :)

No bid is quite different from no talks. Pretty likely talks are taking place with a view to a bid.

Re earlier posts, he might prefer to stay in the NW but Im sure Fox also did, and Im sure Guly would rather be in Spain or Brazil but Saints would be hard to turn down, and quite frankly, if JR wasn't keen on a move here it would be bizarre.

Possibly. Also possible the clubs are talking but have absolutely no intention of revealing anything officially yet. Club official rings journo, blabs off record, denies on record. Pretty common in all public arenas from politics to pop music.

These things are not always just agents stirring and journalists making it all up.

True, but its rarely the whole story either. The are many equally plausible scenarios. Maybe Burnley cant afford to ignore £6m but Rodriguez wants to stay and go on a free next year.

Absolutely. What better way to drum up more intrerest than the club seeding interested parties out to the press. If JR really does want to stay up north, maybe the club desperately need to flush out a northern club with some money to buy him.

There's plenty of theories to work up. It's just funny that as soon as some club PR man says "nothing doing" then people assume that really is the end of it.

How many times was Cesc Fabrigas not going to Barcelona?
