Tom8558 Posted 14 August, 2011 Share Posted 14 August, 2011 We were 20th in league 1 Had pardew as manager Never looked like pulling a winning streak together And Adkins has fixed all that in less than a year
S-Clarke Posted 14 August, 2011 Share Posted 14 August, 2011 I prefer going back 2 years, Bottom of L1 by 10 points, not much of a team, selling our best young talent......and then in comes NC and Markus, and from that moment we've never looked back. spyinthesky Posted 14 August, 2011 Share Posted 14 August, 2011 Just goes to show how things change We lost 1-0 at home to newly relegated Plymouth who were one of the favoutites to return to the Championship Compare tehm and us now. We are doing well and Plymouth are in all sorts of financial difficulties, tonked 4-1 at home by Rotherham in Div 2 and next year could easily be a Non league outfit!! CB Fry Posted 14 August, 2011 Share Posted 14 August, 2011 We were 20th in league 1 Had pardew as manager Never looked like pulling a winning streak together And Adkins has fixed all that in less than a year We did win our next game 4-0, though. And in the previous season we'd won seven of our last ten, losing only one, and throwing in a cup final win at Wembley on top. But no, winning streaks were a complete alien concept way back in the dark, dark days of this time a year ago. Christ almighty.
SNSUN Posted 14 August, 2011 Share Posted 14 August, 2011 I look back to how miserable I felt that summer when we were in administration, and seeing players like Drew and McG leave. I wondered where we would hit rock bottom, because it is only from rock bottom that you can start to rebuild again. Thankfully rock bottom was 24th in League One with -10points, and it has only been good since. I sympathise with how other teams fans must feel when they're in a similar state, but clubs shouldn't let their finances run out of control in the first place. We did, and we paid the price. Thankfully for us we were a good enough club to find investment and start the rebuilding process. Plymouth will be ok too, eventually. Time heals all wounds. This feeling we have at present is a whole world away from that feeling two years ago, and even the feeling we had a year ago. I look at our team, and I genuinely think there are few others with the same strength in depth and quality in this league. Two or Three additions and we will be laughing all the way to Summer '12. Lighthouse Posted 14 August, 2011 Share Posted 14 August, 2011 We were 20th in league 1 Had pardew as manager Never looked like pulling a winning streak together And Adkins has fixed all that in less than a year Hang on a sec. We're rewriting history a tad there. We went on a fantastic streak at the end of Pardew's season in charge, winning 8 and drawing 2 of our last 10 games and that's not including the 4-1 Cup final win in the middle. Even taking our very troubled League 1 birth into account, we were still the second best side over the course of the season. As for being 20th in the League, well we were 10th in the League when Sturrock was sacked after 2 games. Hardly makes him a top half Premier League manager. It just means you're drawing conclusions from a ridiculously short period of games (in this case, 1 it would seem). Adkins is doing a brilliant job, but let's not p*ss over everything Pardew achieved.

Lets B Avenue Posted 14 August, 2011 Share Posted 14 August, 2011 This time last season we didnt play our 2nd game of the season (on compassionate grounds). I was at The Rose Bowl watching Hampshire dramatically win the T20.

It was obvious we'd turned the corner when we beat Yeovil 2-0 circa September 2009... though 28_F it is a decent flashback... if taken completely out of context.
