Definate yellow, but not deserving of a straight red. Look at it this way - he went for the ball, not the player and the opposing player was running into the challenge wholeheartedly so there was little time to get his foot out of the way. He didn't and perhaps he deliberately didn't try to move his foot out of the way fast enough, but it was not in the same league as some of the potentially leg breaking tackles I have seen in the past that have only received a yellow.

Don't even think it was a case of leaving the foot in.

To me it looked like he cleared the ball, pulled the foot back out and then in a second movement pushed it back into the player. Definite red.

Agreed - I think there are clearly 2 movements there, 1 to clear the ball and another th stamp on the guy's thigh. Chaplow even seems to have a little look to take aim.

At the time I couldn't see why he'd been sent off as it appeared he'd booted the ball clear and then just collided with McEvely (sp) but having seen the replay it was a clear red card. Silly boy and lucky it didn't cost us the 3 points, even if we should have been about 4-0 up by then.

The other player was running straight at him and had Chaplow not booted the ball (and then put his boot down on the opponent), they'd have just run into each other. If his opponent wasn't near enough for a collision, how was Chaplow able to make contact ?

I think he was unlucky, the natural defence against a collision is to put something up to fend off the impact (usually an arm), Chaplow in the split second after playing the ball held his boot there because it was already raised and between his body and his opponent's. He was slightly off-balance and falling forward, and led with the boot he'd put up into the player's thigh area.

That's what I love about football. How wouyld video replays ever help with so many different interpretations?

Absolutely nailed on red.

In my view other player wasn't running into him. Barnsley guy went for the ball, had one leg low at full stretch, no momentum, and his whole body weight was leaning back and away from Chaplow trying to avoid him. Definitely a second movement from Chaplow which looked to me like he was trying to "avoid" a collision by putting his foot and weight into him then launching himself backwards using Barnsley guys thigh/****** as a springboard

How can anyone say it wasn't worthy of a red card? If he'd just jumped got the ball and then gone down and the player had been underneath him, but he wasnt you can see his leg go sideways to make sure he caught him, it was a horrendous challenge. If someone had done that to Lallana at St. Marys, it would have been 'the worst challenge in history'

Won't vote as the incident isn't well covered on the Barnsley player full 90, but some of the tackles he put in last season would lead one to believe that he has a propensity for these sort of scissors tackles. So Nemesis has probably caught up with him.

I suggest either you go to the game or at least watch the highlights before commenting. This was nothing like a scissor tackle FFS!

Definate red card and whilst I like Chaplow, he has to be careful that he doesn't waste his talent as Prutton did when red mist descends. Michael Brown, for example, has to resort to being an animal as he lost any pace or ability he had three years ago. As we saw from Gobern's stupidity last season, Adkins will only tolerate that sort of thing for so long.

He offered Gobern a new contract.

No, but then it was nothing like having his leg extended as the opposing player ran onto him.

Him quite obviously kicked his leg out towards the other player in order to make his mark. IMO he has developed a bit of a violent streak as of late, during the Leeds game I wondered how long he would stay on. This needs to be cut out of his game, there is tackling strongly and grabbing a game by the neck but thats different to being reckless.

Deserved red, and seeing the options we have in CM he may regret it.

It may or may not have been a red, but one thing it definitely wasn't was a "scissors tackle", which is a two footer wrapping your legs around some part of the opponent.

Also not sure how replays are supposed to be the panacea for controversy when I've watched it back a couple of times and still can't categorically state he definitely meant it - but the point is that according to the International Board just the recklessness Chaplow showed is a red card, contact or not (and there definitely was contact, in case anyone wants to misinterpret that bit). So with that in mind, it was a red, but the interpretation is an ass. :)

Not sure why, when he's played in both league games this season as a sub on the right of midfield and was clearly at best third choice even at the tail end of last season ?

I'm quite pleased that it might give De Ridder a chance to play in his preferred position, he's not had much impact up front yet, but then with a propensity to play disguised through balls he wouldn't have anyone to pass to anyway.

So Saints could get some compensation from the end of his contract. With Morgan signing a new deal and Cork being a top target once promotion was secured Gobern's prospects weren't looking good. He's gone to a good club in Huddersfield, hope he and them do well this year.
