Ipswich build up. Let's tear them a new one.

Can't wait, Nige, pull out the big guns and make em sit up and take notice mate.

Wish I was going, well up for this one, floodlights or not, cream them.

Games coming thick and fast at the moment... bring it on! Working near Braintree in Essex all next week and trying to get along, transport willing.

Massive test, but no longer have fear about going into these sorts of games. Can see Fox getting a game because we may go there with the plan to catch them on the counter and he sounds a very attacking full back. Possibly get Maynard or Rodroguez in before Tuesday as well or is that too much to ask?! Saints to win 2-1

This will be our toughest game so far, the toughest game for our centre backs too as they have a real classy championship CF to contend with in Chorpa. They've not really had a massive defensive test thus far.

They've bought well this year, but as we all know, lots of new signings can be negative initially....and with the fans expectations now through the roof, they could get on their backs quite quickly if things aren't going their way.

Didn't we beat them there in the CCC in '07 or '08? And we beat them at SMS season before last.

They'll be ready for us. Nigel will need a different game plan.

Posted

I would have this down as one of our toughest games of the year. A draw would be superb but if we play to our best and convert our chances we could absolutely bury them.

Posted

Provided we beat Milwall, these next two away games can be viewed as "bonus" games. Of course we don't play Milwall until after Ipswich so that's a pretty pointless thing to say!

Posted

I don't think Milwall will be a walkover by any means but since Adkins took over our home form has been absolutely massive so it's sensible to expect to beat them.

Seriously thinking of doing this one after Saturday's win and because I'm unlikely to see any games before October time...tickets should be available on the gate shouldn't they?

They were last time I went..very mellow set up.

Will be interesting to see how we line up, I reckon we'll see Seaborne at CB ahead of Martin - apparently he was excellent yesterday.

Was out with a mate last night who is an Ipswich fan, goes to Portman road regularly, and he's nervous about tuesday. He was saying that Chopra is looking sharp, so we'll have to defend well, but they didn't look great against Hull. I'm quietly confident. They'll go all out to try and beat us, that usually works in our favour.

Posted

I will be a lot tougher than Barnsley, who looked a poor side, but we are playing well and are full of confidence.

Posted

This is the official start of the season, period.

I'm hopeful, but not confident. If we can come away with a point I'll be happy. If we come away with 3, I'll be looking for an extended run of good results.

I'd leave out Morgan and start Hammond, and play as a 4-5-1 with Guly operating behind Lambert.

Only issue is we could do with a quicker striker to stretch their back 4, and Lambert doesn't operate far enough forward for this.

I have anxieties over any away game and this is no exception.

Other than last season, I can't recall a time since I've been following Saints that we've ever been that good away. I remember how overjoyed I was when we beat Middlesbrough 3 - 1 at their place in 2005, since wins away were so hard to come by!

You would leave out Connolly? Surely not - he's our main goal scorer at the moment; he has two the others have only one!

Why the f*ck would you leave out Connolly? He's been class and scored in both starts!!

Hope to see Fox involved on Tuesday, De Ridder to start aswell in place of Guly, who I would drop to the bench, Connolly and Lambert if Connolly can manage 2 games in 3 days? If not, him on bench with Lallana behind Lambert and Holmes? On the left wing, too many options! I love it!

Huge test - this could see a wheel come loose. Heart says 1-2 win, but head says 2-1 loss I'm afraid on this one. IF we win, I think it could be one of the more significant games of the season in defining the overall belief and mentality of the squad.

Remember the last trip we took up there, in the new year 2009. It was the last game of Mark Wotte's mini-revival. I was on holiday at the time and I genuinely believed we would win. When we did I was convinced we would stay up. Sadly after that game we went to Brum and lost 1-0 and just plummeted into the abyss there-after. Euell scored twice (His only goals of the season, feckin' donkey) and Matt Paterson got the other.

Last game against them in the cup was pretty good too. Mainly for Wayne Thomas' absolute howitzer of a goal and his brilliant celebreations afterwards. That remains one of my all time favourite Saints goals. Antonio tapped in the rebound from a Lambert free kick to give us a 2-0 lead. Then on the stroke of 90 minutes they get a goal back and the 4th offical holds up a board with 6 minutes of injury time. Made me feel sick. Remember singing "Keano, what's the score" and after the match, "We want Pompey!" And we got them unfortunately.

As for Tuesday, I'd stick with the side that started at Barnsley, with De Ridder in for Guly. Anyone know when Barnard is fit?

Because he's 34, injury prone and hasn't played 3 games in a week in a long time (I am assuming he'll start on Saturday against Millwall). Guly hasn't had much of a chance having been played out of position on the right and I am sure he would relish the opportunity to step up and cement a place up front with Rickie. Connolly is a big threat up front, but we can't take chances with injuries - we need as many fit players as we can in order to put together a good run. Chuck him on for the last 30 minutes if things are looking a little dodgy, by all means. Ipswich have got some bruisers in their team and DC is only little you know!

You don't drop someone who is in great form. He may be 34 but his body isn't as worn down as other 34 year olds due to not playing because of injuries. I'm sure DC will start unless we sign Maynard.

He is in great form, but we want him to be in great form for the season, not just until he's overworked and then picks up an injury. I'd be very surprised if he starts on Tuesday and Saturday, although I see everybody's reasoning for keeping him in the team.

A draw would be an excellent result. It's going to be our biggest test so far. They are a far better side than Leeds or Barnsley.

But a side that has nonetheless lost at home to Northampton and Hull in the last seven days....
