Baj Posted 24 October, 2008 Posted 24 October, 2008 "Aquired" today, plays very well and much better paced than the original that I wasn't overly impressed with. Cracking visuals
St Marco Posted 24 October, 2008 Posted 24 October, 2008 Man im so jealous! I wont be getting it until the 6th Nov I have heard a lot of good things about it but that is Cliffy B for you, he is like the american version of Kojima when it comes to being a perfectionist.
Baj Posted 24 October, 2008 Author Posted 24 October, 2008 I was fairly put off by the original GOW but never really able to put my finger on why, until I started playing gow2 and realised it was the pacing and the story that was lacking (imho) from the first.
GuttedAnt Posted 24 October, 2008 Posted 24 October, 2008 I'll give it a go. Didn't like the first though. November for me is all about Left 4 Dead. MOAR ZOMBIES.
Saint_Jonny Posted 24 October, 2008 Posted 24 October, 2008 Just pre orderd my copy of gears, dont give a toss about the single player, its all about the online play, ive put some seriouse hours into GOW so cant wait for this one to refresh the whole expierience for me.
magnet Posted 27 October, 2008 Posted 27 October, 2008 "Aquired" today, plays very well and much better paced than the original that I wasn't overly impressed with. Cracking visuals How did you manage that?? I'm tearing my hair out waiting for the release date.
Mark Posted 29 October, 2008 Posted 29 October, 2008 Baj, are the battles bigger and more intense that GOW1? I enjoyed the first game but thought it was bit easy. Cheers.
Baj Posted 29 October, 2008 Author Posted 29 October, 2008 have only played about 30 mins into it, so hard to say... been playing fable 2
Baj Posted 1 November, 2008 Author Posted 1 November, 2008 A big gears of war fan mate of mine (got that's a hard sentence to write), is popping over this evening and we're going to play about 4 hours straight in co-op, so will let you know properly what it's like
St Marco Posted 1 November, 2008 Posted 1 November, 2008 game have taken my cash already for this game so hopefully they send it early!
Baj Posted 2 November, 2008 Author Posted 2 November, 2008 Stunning. Some of the visuals as you get further into the game are draw droppingly good, one level in particular (think moby ****) is awesome, and some of the lighting effects on later levels are those moments when you just have to ignore the enemy and admire the graphics. Gameplay wise its not a lot more over the original, and the story does seem a bit odd at some points, more liked tagged on to the story for the sake of a different scenario. Duration wise, we played about 4 1/2 hours and were about half way through (from what i can see online).
Baj Posted 4 November, 2008 Author Posted 4 November, 2008 Just finished it. Some insanely difficult last few levels, and then a real treat for the last chapter. Great fun.
magnet Posted 4 November, 2008 Posted 4 November, 2008 Just finished it. Some insanely difficult last few levels, and then a real treat for the last chapter. Great fun. If you've finished it can you sell it to me now ;-)
Baj Posted 4 November, 2008 Author Posted 4 November, 2008 If you've finished it can you sell it to me now ;-) That's assuming im not a knock off nigel of course...
St Marco Posted 6 November, 2008 Posted 6 November, 2008 Game again delivered mine 1day early will be killing some locust tonight!
St Marco Posted 6 November, 2008 Posted 6 November, 2008 Well i have played it for a good 5 hours now. Awesome game thus far. Probably the best shooter i have played to be honest. Also im not normally someone who gives a crap about graphics but some of the visuals in it are simply stunning. The rain effects are the best ive seen. Deffinatly worth the high metascore it has got. Unlike some other games ive played recently!
Baj Posted 7 November, 2008 Author Posted 7 November, 2008 Glad you're enjoying it, how far have you got?
St Marco Posted 7 November, 2008 Posted 7 November, 2008 Glad you're enjoying it, how far have you got? Im on the storm level with the Razor Hail. Loads of fun!
Evil Monkey Posted 7 November, 2008 Posted 7 November, 2008 Is it worth getting if you havent played the first installment? Also, is it a 1st or 3rd person shooter?
thesaint sfc Posted 7 November, 2008 Posted 7 November, 2008 Is it worth getting if you havent played the first installment? Also, is it a 1st or 3rd person shooter? 3rd. I'm trying to complete the first one at the moment. Once I've done that I'm gonna buy the second one. the first is so cheap now I'd probably try doing them in order so you understand the storyline.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 7 November, 2008 Posted 7 November, 2008 (edited) Glad you're enjoying it, how far have you got?Hey Baj are you using that modded dvd drive firmware on you're 360! Edited 7 November, 2008 by SOTONS EAST SIDE
Baj Posted 7 November, 2008 Author Posted 7 November, 2008 Hey Baj are you using that modded dvd drive firmware on you're 360! I couldnt possibly comment
$$$ Posted 8 November, 2008 Posted 8 November, 2008 LOL @ Boj's pitiful ego-w4nking, You would think someone whose identity is so well known would keep their illegal activities under wrap. Hello, is that FACT? I want to tell you about a forum admin who openly brags about pirating games. I understand he offers them for sale via PM and also chips consoles...http://www.fact-uk.org.uk/site/contact/com_form.htm
Mark Posted 9 November, 2008 Posted 9 November, 2008 just brought GOW2 from Sainsburys for £29.99 :-)
St Marco Posted 10 November, 2008 Posted 10 November, 2008 apparently Gears 2 sold 2.5m copies in it's 1st day....projected to sell 3.5m in it's 1st week (friday to friday). If that turns out to be true then that should in theory beat the Halo 3 sales. Safe to say that is pretty monster sales.
Saint_Jonny Posted 10 November, 2008 Posted 10 November, 2008 Finished the story yesturday, twas pretty epic throughout, great stuff! Well, apart from the disapointing ending, was over really rather fast, and didnt put up much of a fight. Onto the years of multiplayer madness now!!
Baj Posted 11 November, 2008 Author Posted 11 November, 2008 Finished the story yesturday, twas pretty epic throughout, great stuff! Well, apart from the disapointing ending, was over really rather fast, and didnt put up much of a fight. Onto the years of multiplayer madness now!! yeah i sorta had the same feeling, i only realised that was "it" when the reward popped up.
Ponty Posted 11 November, 2008 Posted 11 November, 2008 yeah i sorta had the same feeling, i only realised that was "it" when the reward popped up. While we're on the subject of endings, I finally got around to finishing off Bioshock tonight. WTF is with that ending?
Rorytheking Posted 12 November, 2008 Posted 12 November, 2008 While we're on the subject of endings, I finally got around to finishing off Bioshock tonight. WTF is with that ending? Bioshock. What a game. I repeat. What. A. Game.
Saints Noog Posted 12 November, 2008 Posted 12 November, 2008 While we're on the subject of endings, I finally got around to finishing off Bioshock tonight. WTF is with that ending? Ending is rubbish I agree, not sure how it will link into Bioshock 2 either to be honest!
Ludwig Posted 12 November, 2008 Posted 12 November, 2008 While we're on the subject of endings, I finally got around to finishing off Bioshock tonight. WTF is with that ending? Which ending did you get? There are 3.
Ponty Posted 12 November, 2008 Posted 12 November, 2008 Which ending did you get? There are 3. I got rescued by a boat and loads of splicers popped up in little escape submersibles. I was getting some rant from the woman who looked after the kids. That seemed harsh because I only harvested the very first one, the rest I saved.
Seaford Saint Posted 12 November, 2008 Posted 12 November, 2008 My 11 year is getting an xbox elite and 2 controlers + 4 games, one of which is games of war 2 for Xmas. Sounds like he'll love it. He can't wait to play online.
Rory Posted 13 November, 2008 Posted 13 November, 2008 You're letting your 11 year old play this game?
Ludwig Posted 13 November, 2008 Posted 13 November, 2008 I got rescued by a boat and loads of splicers popped up in little escape submersibles. I was getting some rant from the woman who looked after the kids. That seemed harsh because I only harvested the very first one, the rest I saved. If you kill most she's even angrier. If you save them all it's some weird gay thing.
Ludwig Posted 13 November, 2008 Posted 13 November, 2008 Ending is rubbish I agree, not sure how it will link into Bioshock 2 either to be honest! I heard it's a prequel, in the sense of story.
skintsaint Posted 14 November, 2008 Posted 14 November, 2008 Horde is pretty addictive and Im not normally the type who would sit on a xbox for hours these days.
thesaint sfc Posted 14 November, 2008 Posted 14 November, 2008 You're letting your 11 year old play this game? Probably not a good idea seeing as the game is an 18, contains loads of swearing, scenes of torture, and every 3-5 minutes you're cutting things in half with a chainsaw and getting covered in their blood and guts.
Ponty Posted 17 November, 2008 Posted 17 November, 2008 Been playing it since I picked it up in Tesco for £15 (incorrectly placed as GOW 1 in the 2 for £30 section - and they honoured it!) but I'm stuck at the queen's dude with the big chainsaw who keeps flipping me up and cutting me in half, bastard. Any tips gratefully received.
Gully Posted 21 November, 2008 Posted 21 November, 2008 Other then getting lucky like Ponty, anyone know where the cheapest place to get one. Not online as I need it for tommorrow.
